Chapter 7 - A very normal egg

Though it is well known amongst the influential figures of the world that touching a dragon's reverse scale would agitate them to an extreme degree. It is not well known that a dragon's reverse scale is also their biggest weakness.

Not to mention that no one had ever tried poisoning or gassing dragon's before as their absurdly high magic resistance deters any attempt at this.

However, magic and alchemy which gassing falls under are two different branches, although they produce similar effects, it is truth that alchemy is not magic.

As such a dragon's high magic resistance meant nothing to the psychedelic concoction of which Jeffrey prepared for this very endeavour.

Victorious in combat, Jeffrey approached the corpse of the now deceased flying lizard.

It was enormous. The corpse could probably last for weeks just with Jeffrey eating all of this alone.

"It's a shame that we're located so deep into the forest. It would be a pain to haul something so heavy, home."

Not to mention that he probably couldn't even cut through the scales in the first place without destroying all his tools, maybe his father could.

The crater of Danger Forest was relatively deep inside, just outside the inner region of the forest. The core region denotes the middle of the forest or the middle of any area in general and by reference, the inner region would be the region that surrounds the core region, followed by the outer region.

It was disappointing but Jeffrey could only leave the lizard behind, well it wasn't like anything in Danger Forest would be capable of piercing through those scales anyway.

Removing his shovel from the lizard. It took a good two tugs for it to come out.

He quickly cleaned the blood off with a rag he brought with him, wouldn't want his shovel to become rusty now would he?

Trekking back the way he came from, he would arrive by tomorrow morning, the sun was close to setting at this time.

It was getting late so he might as well just find a place to rest for the night, not to mention that Jeffrey was carrying quite a bit of equipment on him at the moment.

Danger Forest did indeed get pretty dangerous at night as the name implied, so it was best to stay in one place lest he wanted to attract unneeded attention.

Climbing up on a Forest Tree, he sat on a branch somewhere near the top but still low enough that Night Birds wouldn't be able to spot him.

Keeping watch for a while to make sure his spot was decently hidden, Jeffrey closed his eyes for a light nap.

Opening his eyes again Jeffrey scanned his surroundings. Though Jeffrey couldn't exactly see in the dark, he was used to waking up early and working in nigh darkness. Dawn had yet to strike and there didn't seem to be any creature nearby.

But most importantly, he was still in the same tree, that was a good start to the day, it would be concerning if he wasn't.

He was awake now and without anything to do, Jeffrey started to fidget with the equipment he brought with him.

He couldn't stand to sit still for so long.

*Ka-Kaw!*

The sound seemed to come from behind his location, so Jeffrey shifted his position on the tree to watch the bird fight. It happened at a tree quite far away and frankly, Jeffrey couldn't see anything.

Being bored out of his mind with nothing to do, Jeffrey slowly approached the location by crossing trees where their branches overlapped.

At a certain Forest Tree, two birds duked it out.

On one side was a Combat Cockerel and on the other was a Night Crow. On normal occasions, a Night Crow would usually triumph against a Combat Cockerel, though it seemed that the Night Crow was previously wounded before this fight.

The Combat Cockerel used its razor sharp talons to gouge pieces of flesh from the Night Crow, as it tried to protect itself by harnessing the darkness around it.

The Night Crow was on the defensive as the Combat Cockerel rained hits after hits on the Night Crow. It looked like the Night Crow was defending something, and seeming to understand that it had no hope of beating the Cockerel alive. It abandoned all defence and went for an all in attack.

Using the essence of Night and Darkness around it, it concentrated it on its beak. The Cockerel, understanding the danger the Crow possessed, madly slashed at the Crow. But it was to no avail, the empowered beak landed right at the neck of the Cockerel killing it instantly. Both falling to the ground from the high trees they fought on.

Though the crow was victorious it did not seem so, with gouges all over its body, blood seeped out incessantly. And not to mention the drain of overusing its bloodline powers. It died soon after.

Ending this fierce battle of birds.

"Wow, that was intense," Jeffrey commented on top of a tree overlooking the fight between the two, the sun had started to rise by the time the birds finished fighting. Placing a hand behind him to lean back, he felt something funny.

It was a bird nest, made of twigs and sticks, bent into a circular shape. And in the middle of the nest lay a dark egg, a bit smaller than a chicken egg. It still looked kinda like a chicken egg though.

It looked tasty. But wait, if he hatched this egg, then he would be able to get a ton more eggs! Not to mention that all his livestock were killed recently, so this would be a good boon to kickstart his farm again!

It was a worthwhile investment, ignoring the fact that the egg probably wasn't a chicken.

Jeffrey remembered raising chickens one time. Though some green midgets stole them.

Gods damned midgets. He hated those bastards.

Taking the nest alongside the Crow and Cockerel carcases he made his way back home.
