Over the next couple of days, I waited for Rhonda's arrival and eventually sent Micheal to look out for her if she managed to get lost. He didn't question it, rather he was glad that I was reaching out to her, probably because he was interested in her because she is a witch.
When I brought up the subject with Jacob he just nodded and agreed with anything I said, probably not bothering to catch the fact that she is a witch. To him, he's alright with anybody that is on my side and has made it clear that they will protect me, during these questioning times.
"Are you sure you're not going to be bothered?" I asked, stepping into his home office after he got off the phone with one of the design managers based on the presentation slides on his screen. It seemed it didn't take him long to start the major upcoming project, and I always found my gaze on him as he was studying the screen, working specifically.
The way that he sat tall in his chair while debating and considering the manager's words, fitted him. The way that he clenched his jaw, as he was in deep thought coordinating with his darkened teal eyes, that was picturing his product. He gave off that professional CEO vibe, which made sense since he was, as young as he was.
He was one of the few that was living the dream that I'm working toward.
While he was into his serious meetings, I kept my distance, staying true to my word. To both myself and him.
Instead, most of the time, I found myself in the living room on both rainy and sunny days. Scanning the bookshelves in either natural light from the sun or a couple of lamps lighting up the spins of the books. I was spending my free time, searching for more answers, about either Mafia business or supernatural world, which to my surprise, he seemed to have plenty of references of both.
He looked up from his phone screen to shrug his shoulders to my question earlier, before smiling. "I've heard about her, and I can tell that she is a trustworthy person since she had made it clear to all of us, including her coven that she stans by you, and only you."
"You did a search about her without asking me?" I interrupted him, crossing my arms to glare at him for a second. He shrugged once again, before nodding his head.
"I decided to do a background search on everyone close to you, just in case." He answered my question before setting down his phone, which had an article pulled up. "If she doesn't approve of me, then I guess we'll have a long process to get her approval." He continued on, as I didn't comment on his reasoning, because I've also done that recently about the people around us.
"I already have her approval, that's just something you need to do." I smiled watching his smirk fall as he wasn't expecting my sarcastic comment. "I'll bring in lunch for you, I'll be out by the waterfall for the rest of the afternoon. You can just finish up your work and rest, I can already see the eyebags." I switched the topic, observing his tired body.
He was wearing a loose gray t-shirt, sweatpants, and slippers since he started work after cooking us breakfast. His hair was taken care of, and I hoped that he didn't do any video calls considering he looked haggard.
He raised a brow, before smirking a bit, seeing me nag like the girlfriend I was. Holding out his hand, while softening his teal gaze as they were looking at with admiration. I took it without any hesitation, meeting those sparkling eyes, feeling a small trace of a grin working its way on my face.
This has been our small way of showing comfort to each other, since we've been busy for the past couple of days, to take the time to sit down and watch a movie, while holding each other. So we took a moment to feel the warm static feeling between our hands, listening to each other's hearts in the silence.
"You don't look the best either, I can tell you haven't been sleeping well." He reached to rub my cheekbone, observing my eyebags, before lifting his gaze to my eyes once again. I let out a defeated sigh, as he hit a sore spot. 'It's not because I'm having nightmares again, it's just I'm unable to sleep.' I thought to myself while leaning into his careful touch.
Shifting my eyes from his messy hair, I met his bright teal eyes, which were wide as he was admiring me, with the look of praise in his expression. Pausing for a moment, I smiled, seeing that look in his eyes, as he was sincere about his love, even if it felt abrupt.
Especially for someone that had a hard time accepting it, because of the childhood I've lived. I wasn't expecting to start to fall in love this young, and with someone that I met only two months ago, yet it feels like I've known him longer.
Leaving his side for a couple of minutes, I went to grab the lunch Anthony made, letting him decorate the tray that I was going to carry it on. Returning to Jacob, who managed to fall asleep in his chair, with both feet on the desk, his arms crossed, while his head was tilted to the side, showing off his handsome side profile. I smiled, taking a picture of him.
Quietly setting down the tray on the glass desk, I reached over and hit the save button on his document, which was still pulled up, before leaving him to his much-needed afternoon nap. Walking out the backdoor, onto the patio, I took in a deep breath of the summer air, enjoying the warmth of the sun, as it peeked through the trees.
"I can sense my next shift coming, it's already been a month. Hah... Should I stay here, go to Ryan and Clove's, or should risk it at home?" I asked quietly to myself, glancing down at my calendar on my phone which had my possible start date.
'Can I successfully leave this place, without being kidnapped again? Once was already enough, and sadly I don't even know where Clove lives.' I contemplated with myself, thinking about my options. 'Rhonda when will you arrive, you're one of the few that can guide me?' I closed my eyes, praying for Rhonda's arrival.

"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!" Waking up to the bright doorbell, I grumbled something unintelligent, while running my hand over my face. Glancing over to the small figure in my bed, who decided to crawl in earlier last night, I noticed the time on my clock, frowning deeper when I saw the time. 4:00 a.m.
"You're kidding me, who is at my house at 4 am," I muttered, gently unwrapping Kenzie's arms from me, who immediately flipped over, falling back into her deep sleep, pulling the blankets up to her chin.
Getting out of the bed, I slipped into my slippers, and stumbled out of my room, down the stairs, into the dark living room, that had one lamp on. Running my hand through my hair, before opening the door, to reveal an older lady, in her mid-thirties standing at my door, with a bag on her back, and a frown on her face.
"You are?" I asked, blocking her path as she stepped forward. Looking at her, noticing how she had bright green eyes that were narrowed as she was sizing me up, she was biting the inside of her cheek, either to prevent her from saying something that she shouldn't, or she was refusing to speak.
After a couple of minutes of silence between us, I was let out an annoyed sigh, about to close the door when she reached out. "The name is Rhonda Rivers, specifically looking for Mackenzie Young. She at this house?" Miss Rhonda spoke in an irritating tone, as she addressed herself, and my mate's name.
"You're Rhonda?" I asked, looking at her black hair, green eyes, and a scowl on her face as I was taking the moment to observe her. "You're finally arriving here, at 4 am?" I continued on, before opening the door, watching her step into the house.
"I was busy. Where is she?" She asked, and I let out a tired sigh, running my hand through my hair.
"Sleeping as she should be, you can meet her in the morning. Till then, you can either sleep on the couch here or go to that room there. As long as you aren't snooping in my stuff I don't care how you spend your time. She should be awake by eight." I replied while making my way up to the stairs not hearing her reply because I shut the door, returning to the bed.
Kenzie stirred a bit when the door was shut, but returned to that deep sleep, flipping over to snuggle in my arms when I got under the cover again. Falling back to sleep with her in my arms.
