*** (Kenzie)
Waking up to the strong scent of pinewood and lavender, I let out a tired sigh relating that I was still in Jacob's arms. Retracting my arms from him, I paused to look at his relaxed expression, as he was sleeping. I snuck into his room because I wanted to test a theory; if he was able to help me sleep and somehow he did.
I was surprised that he didn't return me to my bed, as he woke up in the middle of the night, but at the same time, I was relieved that he didn't. It was the first time in the past couple of days that I managed to get at least eight hours of sleep.
Slipping into my slippers on the right side of the bed, the closest side to the door, I quietly slipped out of the room, leaving him snoring away. Closing the door behind me, I let out a sigh of relief that I didn't wake him up before I picked up a familiar scent.
Scoffing lightly, I rushed down the stairs, to indeed finally see the witch reading a book on the leather couch, with her hair pulled up into a ponytail. She wore a pair of loose jeans and a purple sweater, paired with glasses.
"So you finally arrive." I entered the living room, with a bounce in my step, excited and comforted to finally see her, after since I have the past couple of days worrying about her. "Jeez, do you know how bored I've been?" I asked, taking a seat beside her, clinging onto her arm.
She scoffed under her breath, before closing her book in an irritated motion, that startled me. Releasing my grip on her arm, to look up into her bright green eyes that were glaring at me. I pulled back, already feeling a rant coming my way, as she was ready to pick a fight.
"Rhonda~"I started in a sweet tone, trying to get out of this punishment, but she seemed to have made up her mind, turning into mama mode.
"Do you know how worried I've been, yet you're here enjoying your time with your irritating mate?! You didn't bother to call or message me, telling me that you were fine. Nope, I just arrive at the house one day to have your father order me to a completely new destination telling me that I was to watch over you.
"Hah..." She let out an irritated sigh, and I looked down guilty for making her worry. She has a point, despite having a phone, I didn't once try to call her, or message her. Which kinda didn't make any sense. "Besides, I wanted to check if you were okay since I heard that you were kidnapped earlier this week." She softened her angered gaze, and I nodded, seeing where this was going.
"I kinda don't want to talk about my kidnapping. I'm still confused about a couple of things and would like some more time to sort my thoughts. As to enjoying my time here, although it's been nice, I've been waiting for you." I smiled trying to turn the topic. She nodded her head, before taking my hand.
"Kenzie...." She started, clenching my hand, and I winced slightly, shocked by this side of her, but didn't complain since she wanted to vent still. "I hate your mate so much." She bluntly told me, and I froze with my mouth open. "I mean how can someone be so arrogant so early in the morning. I get that it was four in the morning, yet he looked like he was going to fight me. Didn't he get the memo that someone was arriving soon?" She vented out and I had to hide my giggle.
"I agree that he is arrogant and irritating sometimes, but he's also had a couple of long days. I have those days too." I smiled, trying to cover for Jacob, and she just scoffed under her breath.
"I think there is someone better for you. I can't believe that you are already defending him. Hah... so irritating. I couldn't even sleep a wink because I wanted to rant to you, yet you're not even taking a side. This isn't how I raised you." She jokingly said, and I rolled my eyes in response. Letting go of her hand, I rose from the leather couch, making my way to the kitchen where I thought about what I wanted for breakfast.
"Simple or grand?" I asked, looking at my new company, who was Jacob stumbling down the stairs. He scoffed under his breath upon seeing Rhonda, who was at the bar, drinking a glass of water, not even bothered by his presence.
"Grand."
"Simple," Rhonda answered over him, which immediately got a reaction out of him.
"Excuse me, I don't think you should get an opinion while in my house." Jacob stepped down the remaining steps, taking a seat on the other end of the bar while addressing her. I caught the glare that was pointed at the both of them, and slammed at the wooden spoon on the counter, getting their attention.
"Enough!" I ordered, seeing both of them lower their heads, as my alpha mode flipped on, seeing these two bickers. "Seeing how you two are still off to a bad start, I'm already sensing a long day. While I'm cooking breakfast, will sit there quietly, either reading a book or working on your project, but I want complete silence." I ordered, and they remained silent before answering.
"Yes ma'am, we understand." In unison, while hiding the fact that they weren't pleased. I nodded before indicating to the seats, using the cooking utensil in my hand. Once it was completely silent, I walked over to the pantry, returning with the pancake mix, and a bag of dry fruit, for snacking. Going to the fridge, I got the eggs, bacon, sausage, butter, and other things I needed for the grand breakfast.
Starting with the pancake mix, I warmed up the pan, before mixing the water and mix, adding some blueberries to the batter, since I was in a good mood. Looking up to the two who were both into a book, I nodded, pleased with the silence, especially at seven in the morning.
Anthony walked in, surprised that I was up and cooking breakfast, and immediately took over the pancakes which I was grateful for, so I moved on to the bacon and sausage. We worked together in the kitchen, slowly bringing the meal together, as he had two platefuls of blueberry pancakes. With eggs to side, as he made about seven eggs worth of scrambled eggs since he got finished with his other task.
I piled up the bacon and sausage on separate plates before setting them on the dining room table, which was set by Anthony. He poured out a cup of water for everyone and asked them quietly if they wanted juice or coffee, only Rhonda wanted coffee.
"Miss, are they suffering from a punishment that I don't know about?" Anthony walked back into the kitchen, after seeing the two off, and I let out a tired sigh, sipping on the freshly made coffee, as I decided at the last moment that I needed one if I was going to deal with these two.
"Mhmm. They were bickering earlier." I answered his question, watching him prepare Rhonda's coffee with care, and I smiled. Reaching to pat his shoulder, "Come eat with us, there is enough for the four of us." I invited him, and he widen his eyes, shocked to hear those words. Noting his reaction I glared in Jacob's direction. "You're telling me that he's never asked you to share a meal with him?" I asked in a shocked tone, ready to start a fight, and Anthony noticed it immediately.
Raising his hands in a surrendering motion he caught my attention. "It's not that, we've shared a couple of meals. You just continue to take me by surprise." He muttered the last sentence under his breath, and I smiled.
"I tend to do that a lot. Let's go enjoy the meal before it gets cold." I walked into the dining room, to see the both of them at opposite ends of the table, still glaring at each other, and looked like they were going to say something, but then they noticed me walking in, followed by Anthony.
Taking a seat by the window, I nod to Anthony taking a seat across from me, noticing how nervous the man was, as he warily glanced at Rhonda who narrowed her eyes on him. "Let's eat." I motioned to the plates of food, taking a small serving of each.
We ate breakfast in a calm setting, there were comments on my cooking, as both of them gobbled up their breakfast, too busy to glare at each other. I was thankful for that meal, as I concluded Anthony's identity.
'Since Rhonda knows him, he was either close to the family, or as part of the family.' I took a guess, finishing up the glass of water while watching him clear up the dishes to start his household chores.
"I can tell what you're thinking, It's not possible." He interrupted my thoughts, and I smiled warmly at him. "But I'll let you guess my identity and if you get it right, then I'll tell you a story." He offered and I scoffed lightly under my breath.
"I have a feeling that we once were close, and seeing how Rhonda seems to know you, I would say that you were once close to the Young family. But if you want to keep your identity and story hidden that is alright with me." I replied in a serious tone, before rising from the table, leaving him alone in the room, as his expression changed quite quickly.
He has his reasons, for not telling me, and I am okay with that.
