Chapter 31 - Reaching The Top!

Slowly, trying to keep our foot, we climbed through the rocky mountain. Stones fell from our sides as we climb which didn't help my fear. As Oliver had said, I too hoped that this was worth it.

I had a rope with me which was given to me by Rock Flames. Oliver had one too but Rock Flames had the full set. It was fair as we didn't quite bring anything so he could use the good stuff. My rope had been stuck to whatever was above me and I didn't even know if it was fixed tight. I had just aimed it up and had thrown and now, here I was, totally dependent on the rope when I didn't even know if it was safe or not.

Oliver had skillfully aimed for a tree branch which looked sturdy and he looked totally fine. Same with Rock Flames. I, though, was having a hard time, playing with my life. I climbed the rocks nicely but the rope above me was loosening and I could feel it. I needed to get up there quick. Climbing faster than the others, my time to show off some exercises had arrived. My pull-ups that I used to do paid off in this situation. I pulled myself up the rock above me. The others followed.

I had never thought of halting in between rocks in a deadly mountain but everyone was too tired to go on. We rested there for some time, drank water, freshened up and sat there, speaking nothing. We all had different thoughts. We had different aims in life. (Well, I didn't have any.) But we were together in this quest, forced to do the impossible, to protect the world.

Filling myself with these kinds of brave thoughts, I got up again, ready to climb more. We resumed our journey. Apparently, the end could be seen but not reached. It was night time till we made it up top. We were tired but didn't sit. After all this hard work, the view in front of us was magical. In front of us, below the mountain, stretched to the horizon was Hilton town. It looked beautiful at night with blue and yellow light instead of white. The town was still up and people could be seen as ants.

I was happy to find such scenery but our job wasn't done yet. We had to get down the mountain which was again going to be tough getting down the steep areas. With the gear that we had, it was likely that only Rock Flames was going to reach the town before we died. Our ropes were strong but we needed real skill to get down. We couldn't get any air flights which was a disappointment.

We rested there on the small platform, the peak on top of the mountain the whole night. I went to sleep almost immediately. The next day, I was woken up by Oliver who looked sleepy himself. Beside him, Rock Flames was wide awake, looking at the town, maybe finding the area to get in from. I got up and took out my toothbrush. Oliver almost laughed looking at me. I was too hygienic and coming from a family where cleanliness mattered, I couldn't resist it. Ignoring him, I took the toothpaste and did my job. Once I was ready we began our journey down.

Looking at the rocks down below, I saw stars. And so, I put my feet to fall immediately.
