Dimitri was summoned by the Father the moment he returned from his run. He was asked to bring in the vampire. Since he had gone out to quell his anger, he was in a relatively good mood.
Which was promptly spoiled the moment Yvaine expressed interest in meeting the Father. He bared his fangs at her and warned her to behave before taking her up to the summit of the mountain.
A lone ice castle stood at the summit, glistening with the sun. Yvaine saw two wolves in their full wolf form. They looked a bit like polar bears but their snouts were elongated and their fangs protruded from the gaps in their mouth. They were also three times bigger than any bear.
Their golden eyes lazily opened when they felt intruders approaching and they stood up, accessing them. Dimitri didn't grant them a second glance like they weren't worth his time, walking straight through the entrance.
Yvaine followed his lead but was soon blocked by the guards. They gave warning growls as their golden eyes flashed. Their bodies arched in an aggressive stance. Yvaine huffed in annoyance since her escort had walked further into the ice castle.
"Look, I know you want to protect your leader and whatever but I was called here by him. And if your young lord over there gets further from me, he's going to get hurt. Now, let me pass" she stated.
The wolves looked in his direction.
{Is that true, Lord Dimitri?} One of the two wolves asked telepathically. Dimitri stopped in his tracks and turned to face them. Rather than respond, he gave them both a glare. The two immediately scramble away and let Yvaine through.
"My, my, I've thought this before but you're very rude" she commented the moment she got beside him. Rather than answer her, he just kept walking. She clicked her tongue and continued walking with him.
Unlike the vampire castle that had a misdirection spell, the werewolf castle was very straight forward. After passing through myriad halls, they soon reached a high arc that led to the throne room. There sat a large bulky man waiting for the two of them.
Beside his large throne, there were four other thrones. A thin young woman was seated on the next bigger chair on the Father's right. The other chairs were left empty.
Dimitri immediately fell on one knee and bowed lowly before the Father. The huge werewolf burst into laughter the moment he saw the two of them. The woman beside him chuckled.
"Father" Dimitri greeted with gritted teeth.
"Oh don't be so iffy son. It's just, this is so interesting" he said, still chuckling.
"I never would've imagined you being with a vampire. It's just…...too funny"
"Father!"
"I'm sorry, just give me a minute" the large throneroom resounded with the laughter of the father. Yvaine decided then that she liked the wolf.
"Queen Moria already explained the situation and also explained that you're very important so you would be treated very well, Lady Yvaine" the female wolf beside the lord said.
"Ah, I remember you. You're Alpha Carrie. So this pup here is yours?" Yvaine said with a small smile. Alpha Carrie's eyes squinted in confusion.
"I'm sorry, I don't seem to recall..."
"It was a long time ago. You crossed swords with one of my handlers and she wouldn't stop talking about how good you were with weapons even though you were a werewolf. You and her were secretly friends for a while, weren't you?"
Alpha Carrie lunged from her chair, body trembling.
"You knew Melissa? The old vampire princess?"
"She's still alive. You could go see her in Deniel if you want"
"But I thought she was..."
"She got into a major accident and has been sleeping since then. The recent vampire queen only managed to wake her up thirty years ago so she's still getting used to the world"
"She's alive, hun?" Alpha Carrie relaxed back in her chair. Dimitri didn't like what was going on. He coughed to get all their attention.
"Father, why did you call us here?"
"To personally warn you not to harm that vampire. You are expressly forbidden from harming her"
Dimitri wanted to disagree but the looks in the Father and his mother's eyes made him unable to refuse. He could only bow his head.
"Yes Father"
"Oh don't be so glum, it's not that bad. It's not particularly unheard of for vampires and werewolves to be together"
During the war, such relations were expressly forbidden and looked down upon. He had seen many parents and offsprings fed to strange beasts and used for various experiments. Even if the world today offered reprove, the scars of the past couldn't be washed away so easily.
"Father, don't push him too much, he might just snap" Alpha Carrie said, snickering. The Father shared in her mirth.
Managing to escape from the palace, the two once again walked back to his abode. There were not many people near where he lived and only the guards on patrol saw them.
Yvaine then noticed something strange. The guards stayed at least two feet away from Dimitri. The latter didn't care, glaring at his feet in silent protest as he walked but the fear that radiated from the wolves as he walked back was so thick that the vampire could smell it from a mile way.
The wolf had a horrendous temper and a permanent scowl. Though he looked quite handsome, it was hard to see with his always furrowed brows. It bothered her so.
