Chereads / Blood Bonded with a Vampire / Chapter 8 - HUNTING

Chapter 8 - HUNTING

The inconvenience of the blood bond was soon felt by the two of them. The issue of hunting rose up quicker than expected. Since they were two fundamentally different beings, they fed differently as well. However, Yvaine quickly proposed a solution.

"Let's go hunt for our food and prepare it separately"

"I thought you'd just drain the blood out of it and toss the carcass"

"Hey, that's racist! I'm not a wild animal that just sucks blood anyhow I like. Just because blood is the main ingredient in all our food doesn't mean we just indiscriminately suck blood. Do I really have to explain this to an ex-military commander?"

Unwilling to admit his mistake, he stormed out and disappeared into the snowy mountains. Sighing, Yvaine went in another direction.

Flying above the snow capped trees, she soon found that the mountain was almost completely devoid of life. No, it was like she couldn't sense any higher organisms there. She frowned, moving closer while staying in an acceptable range.

There was an obvious scent of decay in the air, a putrid and revolting scent of death and destruction that just made her feel uncomfortable. She dropped from a height of six meters, slowing her descent and landing just enough to not shatter the snow filled ground.

The scent was getting nearer. There were some familiar scents too, one of three distinct races; human, elf and werewolf. One of her legs dipping into a crater, she took off and arrived at the core of the scent.

"Disgusting" she commented, moving forward. At the core, there was black mist. In the midst of the mist, there were three carcasses belonging to the three races she had already identified.

A stab wound aimed to the heart killed all of them but seeping out of them was corruption, a deadly form of forbidden magic. It was revolting to see.

The spell was dying down since the three were dead but it was obvious to see nefarious magic had been carried out there. And so close to the territory of the Arctic Snow Wolves too.

Strangely, the wolf that had been killed didn't look like he belonged to the snow wolves. If anything, he looked like he belonged to the south. The whole situation was strange but it ultimately impeded her hunt.

"I cannot believe I am here cleaning up messes for the wolves. That brat better thank me" she grumbled. She closed her eyes and muttered an ancient spell. The evil mist that surrounded the bodies slowly cleared up and the atmosphere visibly eased.

Taking out a ring that was similar to the one Dimitri had, she kept the carcasses inside the ring and went back in the direction in which the boy left. All she had to do was report the problem and after that, it was none of her business.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dimitri was very patient in hunting, unlike his normal behavior. His grey eyes focused on the prey before him and he observed it keenly, looking for weak spots to latch on to.
He had waited there for about ten minutes since spotting it, carefully trapping it with simply magic and making sure it was a clean kill. He didn't like sloppy meals.
Right when he was about to leap out of the bushes and catch it, an invisible force pulled it to the air and twisted its neck. The animal died painlessly and bloodlessly.
His temper flared and he flew to the air to catch the intruder that stole his meal. Scarlet eyes stared back at him calmly. His confusion was soon cleared because before he could reach her, the rebound from an invisible wall threw him to the ground.
He stood up from the crater his impact created and glared at her.
"Why did you interrupt my hunt?"
"I found something important. As protector, I thought you should see this. Unfortunately, you weren't paying attention to me"
Dimitri, Irked, attempted to attack her again, this time with his claws unsheathed. It was when three dead bodies fell gently from the sky that he sheathed them.
"You- killed people?"
"Of course not dumbass. I found them not too far from here in your territory. There were traces of corruption on them"
"What?! Corruption Magic is banned!"
"I know that. This is not my problem so I figured I'd just leave it to you"
Dimitri bent to examine the bodies. The magic seeping from them could not be mistaken, the vile stench and trace was too pungent to ignore. A transparent light cube appeared in his left palm as his eyes turned golden.
He waved his hand over the corpses and they were covered in a coffin shaped cocoon. He kept the corpses in his ring and turned to the vampire. He didn't take too kindly to thanking her. Seeing his prey in her hands, his annoyance returned in many folds.
"Humph!"
He jumped high and soon disappeared into the woods in search of more prey. She was left staring at his back but he could never run away. The bond allowed her to know where he was at every point in time. Since she couldn't leave yet, she waited for him to catch something so they could leave.
Knowing him, it probably wouldn't take too long.
