Chapter 4 - Prologue????

"Don't go to the light!"

The voice reverberated inside the space Ruan was in. It was an old man's voice that he never heard before. Ruan stood up against the abyss as he shouted, "Who are you? Are you God? Wait, why are you telling me not to go to the light?! Are you rejecting me from going to heaven?! Seriously."

"Move faster goddamnit!"

Ruan furrowed his eyebrows. (Wait a minute, would a god insult himself? Of course not), "Who are you exactly?"

"Don't go...the light!"

The voice repeated itself before Ruan replied, "What light? There is no light here!"

"Don't... the light!"

The voice echoed before Ruan started to understand, "Ah, I see, this must be hell level one then. A repeating noise from an old man you didn't know is also torture I guess."

"Don't... light!"

Ruan sat down as the voice slowly tortured him.

"Doctor the heartbeat is finally stabilized," said one of the nurses as she wiped her sweat off of her forehead.

The most experienced doctor let out a sigh of relief. He was panting hard compared to the others before he sat down with fatigue showing on his weary face behind the surgical mask.

"Hah, good job everyone, we managed to survive and see tomorrow's sun."

The nurses and the young doctors furrowed their eyebrows in confusion. They didn't understand what the doctor was saying, or maybe they did understand but refused to believe. The doctor was no ordinary doctor you find in a famous hospital. He was a top grad in his younger years and one of the most sought out doctors in the world. His skill and agility in operating heart-related wounds were among the best.

(What does he mean by us seeing tomorrow's sun?) thought the others but a few of them might already guess the answer as they saw how he left another patient which was in the middle of an operation without hesitation and ran toward the emergency room like a madman.

The old doctor stood up before telling the nurse to bring Ruan to one of the VVIP room and handle him with utmost care. He opened the door and was immediately greeted by the frantic mother.

"Doctor, please tell me my son is okay," said Ruan's mother as she shook the old man's shoulder without thinking of his position.

(Oi, he is a professor you know!) thought the nurses as they saw what happened.

"Calm down miss, your son has passed the worst, he is now stable but unconscious. Try talking to him after the nurses bring him to the VVIP room."

The mother opened his eyes wide, "VVIP room?! How much does that cost?"

"Hmm..." the doctor counted with his fingers before replying, "A lot."

"How much is a lot?" asked the mother.

"I don't know miss, I'm a doctor, I don't count the money that well but more importantly," the old doctor suddenly grabbed her shoulder before shaking her as he said, "Please tell your husband we did the very best, tell him that we did to the extent of what a human and today's technology can do. Young, ehem, I mean the boy is going to open his eyes sooner or later, please!"

The mother opened her eyes wide as she saw a hint of tears on the edges of his eyes.

The old doctor let go of her shoulder before he walked the corridor and raised his arms, "Wooo! live another day!"

"Doctor! Your patient needs your attention!" said a nurse as she ran frantically from the other end.

"What patient?" asked the doctor.

The nurse had black lines over his head before she replied, "The one you left..."

"Shit..." muttered the doctor before he ran toward the elevator.

Only took them ten minutes before Ruan was transferred into the VVIP room. The luxurious place was almost equivalent to a hotel for executives. There was a sofa, a nice view of the city and of course tv and tables, heck, there was even another bed for the guests.

*beep *beep

The electrocardiogram on the heart monitor filled the silent room as Ruan's mother rustled his boy's hair. "Look at you, sleeping peacefully, geez, your father taught you too well."

"By the way, where is that idiot, he will surely get an earful from me!"

Ruan's mother let out a sigh of relief as she said, "Ah well, at least you are still with us."

She kissed his forehead before standing up and told Luke, "Luke, try talking to him, you are his only friend, at least that how I saw you guys, I'm going to the receptionist to talk about the prices. Ah!, I can feel the headache already."

Luke nodded before he saw Ruan's mother leaving the room. He approached his best friend and sat on the side, "Dude, not only did we not see that woman, you actually got shot twice lmao."

However, only the electrocardiogram responded to his dry joke.

"But at least, we got famous, though locally."

Inside the darkness, Ruan recognized the voice he was hearing. He knew that he could just wake up to reality anytime he wanted to, however.

(For what Luke, why would I want to wake up only to enter the modern slavery cycle again, I'm tired Luke, I already applied to famous universities and got rejected from them all and the experience that I got from working is that it's a lie, even if I did graduate, I would only be in the same cycle again just better wage).

"What is the meaning of living if all I do is doing the same thing over and over again until I can't breathe anymore," said Ruan as he hugged his knees tightly.

Suddenly the door to his room was opened and a middle-aged man in a wheelchair entered.

"Ah uncle, good afternoon," said Luke.

Ruan raised his eyebrows, "Dad..."

"Eh? Is that Ruan's laptop?"

(Hmm?) thought Ruan who was inside the abyss.

"Yeah, the internet is really good here, so I thought maybe I want to surf the internet for a while."

"Heh, typical dad," muttered Ruan.

"Hmm... I forgot what website it was, let me look on the history tab."

"!!!" Ruan suddenly opened his eyes and shouted, "Dad no!"

"Ah..." Both of them were surprised by the sudden wake of Ruan who was trying to get out of the bed only to stop midway.
