Two Days Earlier
Elvis was still out cold. Jack made a note of tying him down.
"Who is he? What is he doing here?"
All good question, Jack thought. Jack gave no answer. Jack grabbed a car key from Elvis's bag.
"Eyes on him. I'll go check his car."He didn't wait for answer. He just went on. Chris looked through the man's bag. From the items he had, Chris deduced that he was searching for something.
Chris noticed that the fight had trailed from Jack's room. He walked in to find a tablet and a torch on the floor.
He picked up the tablet. It wasn't Jack's. He switched it on. There was some sort of map on the screen and a blinking lights.
A red one and a green one. He made his way to the living room. He deduced that he was the red( rather the tablet was the red one).
He decided to follow the green one. But noticed that the green one was getting closer. The green light was headed his way. He held his breath in anticipation. It was there. He looked up to see Jack at the door.
"His name is Elvis Chavo. I found his car. You should come see this." Jack said.
Chris froze. He looked back at the tablet. Jack noticed the tablet.
"He was tracking this!" Admitted Jack. He revealed the necklace around his neck.
They walked up to Elvis's car. Jack opened the driver's seat and got in. Chris got in the other seat.
There was a camera in the glove compartment. Jack gave it to Chris. Chris switched it on and snooped around in it.
Jack looked at a photo of Elvis with a child. Probably his son.
"He's been checking us out for two days. You said he's searching for that necklace. Why?"
"I don't know. I know we must deal with this. He's a private investigator. It means-" Chris cut off Jack mid sentence
"Someone hired him. We need to call it in." Chris began to panic.
Jack grew stern,"No. Remember, this is the last mission. After this one we will be free."
Chris looked ahead. He sighed a bit.
"But they will take care of it so that we don't have to. "
"It's something I have to do. You will continue with the mission as planned. Try to speed up the process a bit, but naturally." Jack instructed his four minutes-younger brother.
"What will you do?" Asked Chris
"I'll fix this mess." He said not knowing what exactly it meant.
Today
Jack was in his head. He thought of back to the first days with Rachel. Jack had made it a habit to invade Rachel's lunch.
On that fateful day Rachel hadn't arrived yet. Jack sat waiting for half an hour but she was a no show. It was when he was leaving when he noticed the blue Prius. He approached it. The windows were tinted. He could only see his reflection.
He decided to get closer. He stuck his head on the window at the driver's side. As he peeped inside he could see the box of tissues at the dashboard. He looked at the gearbox where he noticed a pair of knees. His eyes involuntarily looked at the passenger seat. He quickly jumped back in fright. He didn't know what he saw.
The window slowly came down to reveal Rachel. She had been crying, evidenced by her red eyes and the used tissues.
"What are you doing?" Her voice could not hide her tears.
"Were you here this whole time?" Asked Jack
"It's none of your concern!"
Jack approached her and bent over the window.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
"If you are here to make fun of me, please!" She paused to wipe her tears.
"I'm not here to make fun. I just want to help you. Clearly you shouldn't be alone right now."
"Why do you care?"
"Because... I don't like seeing you like this. Do you mind if I come in?"
Rachel unlocked the passenger door. Jack went around and stepped into the car. He opened his arms and Rachel fell into them.
"If you want you can tell me about what happened!" Said Jack
"Huh. You aren't the perverting arsehole I pegged you for in the beginning!"
"Wow. Just let your feelings out, I guess?"
Rachel didn't speak again. Jack didn't either. The position they were in felt natural. It really felt good to Rachel to learn that someone cared for her. Someone had a liking to her. Jack too felt good in her arms. He was going through something himself. He needed the company. It was from that day that Rachel and Jack's relationship changed.
Jack stopped reminiscing and grabbed the bucket of water next to him. He had information to get, time was running out.
____________________
As he was strapped to a chair, Elvis's thoughts were somewhere else. He was with his son. Those days when Agustine was still young and had a lot of love in his heart.
Elvis remembered taking him to the carnival. He remembered holding his hand at the merry-go-round. Agustine was afraid but Elvis promised to keep him safe.
He looked at his locket and shed a tear as he knew those days were long since gone. Agustine was a grown up now. All he knew was hate. Who could blame him though.
As a grown up it was always simple to blame the parents for their problems. Agustine blamed Elvis for the death of his mother.
Sometimes Elvis believed it was his fault too. Seeing as though she was killed to make Elvis back off from a case, it was really hard not to think it.
It ate him up inside. Could it be the reason he continued with his PI business? Could it be the reason he chose to live the remainder of his life in seclusion? Why should an innocent die for his work, and not him?
He had no one. And he knew it. He hadn't seen his son for years. The locket was all he had of him. He had heard that Agustine had converted and had a wife and a child.
Elvis was brought to reality when Jack poured water on him. He looked around. The room was poorly lit.
He looked ahead to see a dark figure before him.
"Which one are you?"
"The ruthless one!" He said while sharpening a knife.
Ali sighs,"I think I've stumbled upon something bigger than I thought."
Jack puts the knife down. He walks closer to Elvis," Why do you say that?"
"The loads of money I was paid. Twins, one in hiding while the other roams around with a false identity." Jack smirked, but Ali continued,"I hope you aren't magicians, scamming people, are you?"
"No. We aren't magicians." Jack looks keenly at Elvis.
"Yeah, the twin magician thing has been done already. But you are scammers!" Continued Elvis," Force of habit. I'm sorry, you ask the questions."
"You seem happy to find out that this is bigger than you." Jack was intrigued
"I hoped it would be."
"Who sent you?" Jack said sternly
" I don't know. The money was good for something so simple so I didn't ask questions." Said Elvis
Jack felt as though Elvis was telling the truth. He came closer,"What was your assignment?"
"I don't know exactly. I was told to find the blinking light and return it. I assume you know what it is."
Jack reveals the necklace around his neck. Elvis nods slightly.
"What happens now? You can't kill me but can't exactly let me go. Whoever's looking for you won't stop." Elvis revealed.
"Where are you from?" Jack asked but knew the answer deep inside.
"Happy Harbour!"
Jack turned around. It was what he feared.
"You know. I know why the person came to me. It actually speaks volumes about you. The ruthless one."
Elvis kept talking. He had figured out something but kept it to himself
"Why? Why you?" Jack turned to face him then turned his back at him.
"Look at me. I'm a nosy drunk with no family." He stated
He looked at Jack. Jack was confused. Elvis knew it. He sighed. Jack thought hard but didn't get it.
Jack turned to leave. Elvis got free of the straps. He untied his legs and got up. He grabbed the knife on the table.
Jack was at the exit when Elvis called out.
"You'll figure it out!"
Jack turned to see Elvis running to him, knife in his hand. He stood defensively.
Elvis took jabs at him but Jack evaded easily. Elvis swung but missed. Jack was too fast.
Elvis was close enough. Jack could see his life flash before his eyes. Elvis swung the knife at him but Jack held Elvis's hand away.
Elvis was strong. Jack was holding back the knife with all his strength. Elvis smiled.
Jack twisted Elvis's arm and forced the knife into Elvis's chest. Elvis dropped to the ground.
Jack couldn't believe what he had done. He held up Elvis's head. He applied pressure on his chest, pleasing for him not to die.
"Everyone has a role to play." Elvis reached out for his locket. His grip loosened until Jack felt him take his last breath.
He was dead!
