Mathew was on the phone. He had been on the phone for about ten minutes.
"Kamiti is a lot bigger than Old Town. There are lots to do here."
"I don't doubt that but I'm sure most of them can't or shouldn't be done alone." Replied Shea
"Are you offering?" Asked Mathew, cheekily
"I could use the break. I'm not sure leaving one noisy town for a noisier city will be relaxing though."
"Nonsense. Most of the recreational facilities are located in the suburbs. It's better than Old Town."
"OK. When I will be taking a vacation I'll check out Kamiti."
"I'll hold you to that!"
"Ok... Look I have to go, we'll talk some other time. When will you return by the way?"
"Two days from now. I'm just wrapping some stuff up. Bye!"
He hang up and bit down on the phone. All this time he was lying on his bed. He put the phone down and got up.
He went to the living room to see Avery having her breakfast.
"Was that Mandy?" Asked Avery
"No! It was someone else!" Replied Mathew
"Oh, how is Mandy? Is there something wrong with the two of you?"
Mathew was confused. Why would she ask that?
"Why?"
"It's not my business but you barely called her the entire time you are here!"
Mathew thought about it for a second. He hadn't really spoken to his best friend the day she took him to the airport.
"To be honest I thought you and Mandy would have been a couple by now." Said Avery
"That was a long time ago. Things change." Said Mathew
"You certainly have. I mean look at you, coming all the way to Kamiti to win over some damsel. " Said Avery jokingly
Old Town
Mandy wasn't feeling too good. Nothing physical. A bit mental and emotional. She was in emotional turmoil.
Mandy and David had been seeing each other for a week now.
Mandy really liked David and wanted to get to know him. Unfortunately it was not that simple.
Something in her mind was holding her back. She was afraid to try it out with David. She did not know what it was or how to stop it.
Even as she was having morning tea with him at a restaurant, she still didn't feel comfortable.
The silence between them had gone on for a long time that it felt like the norm. Either of them hadn't spoken after they started eating.
David had started noticing Mandy's discomfort.
She was distant. He know how it sounded since they had only seen each other for a week.
He could feel it though, ever since he kissed her in the outskirts of town. Could he have moved too soon?
"Mandy, you seem distant and I think I know why." Mandy did not speak, giving him the chance to continue.
"I guess I moved too fast the other day when I kissed you. You probably weren't ready. "
"You're right. But it's not your fault. The kiss really made me think about what I really want. " She said while avoiding eye contact
"So what do you want?" Asked David. There was a streak of fear in his eyes. He feared the answer, cause in his heart he had reserved a spot for Mandy. He really liked her.
Mandy looked into David's eyes, "I don't know."
Mandy was crying inside. He felt sorry for David. "I really like you but I don't know if I'll ever go there with you. "
David really wanted to ask why but he could see Mandy was hurting. He just kept quiet.
Mandy got up and walked away. David fought the urge to run after her. He needed to give her time.
Techsolutions Ltd
Chris walked down the hallway in his fancy new suit. It was a three piece blue suit. He looked distinguished. He even had a briefcase.
Shea fell in love with him again after seeing him so ravishing.
"This is proving to be a good idea and you haven't even entered the office. " Said Shea.
Chris was a little nervous. He looked the part but could he act the part. He had experience with business matters but not like this.
They stopped at the door of the conference room, she fastened his tie and ran her hand over his coat to straighten it out.
She leaned in kissed him so passionately.
"Ready?" She asked
"Born ready!" Chris replied sternly
They opened the door and went in. The entire board was there. Shea went on to the front.
"Good morning! Let's get down to business!"
The board members each showed their disapproval in different ways. Chris could sense the judgmental eyes scrutinizing him.
He did not waiver though. He stood firm and gave them his confidence face. Shea was still introducing him. After she was done one of the board members asked.
"Does he have any experience?"
Chris looked at the fifty year old man looking at him with condescension. Chris beckoned for Shea to let him speak.
"Why do you ask that? Because I'm young?"
Chris placed his briefcase on the table and opened it. He removed some files and put them on the table.
The files went round to the members. Shea looked at the one who had asked the question.
"Franklin! Do you have a discrimination against age?" Asked Shea
Franklin looked around. Everyone had their eyes on him. He began feeling uncomfortable.
"The man looked distinguished and his papers are exemplary."
" I thought so!" Shea looked around with a proud grin on her face.
"So, Chris will be overseeing all operations effective immediately!"
Olivia's Office
Olivia was on her laptop. There were opened files on her desk too. She was in the internet.
She was reading a news thread from ten years ago. The headline read: POLICE BRING DOWN ORGANISED CRIME
She read the story about the gang which dealt in money laundering, solicitation and extortion.
The article bore no names of the people caught nor of the investigation officers who handled the case.
There was no way she could really figure out if Chris was telling the truth. The story looked true but she needed proof.
Then she remembered, his name! Chris had admitted, though indirectly, that Chris was not his name. He needed to know Chris's real name.
How could she? She thought and though then came to a decision. She would just ask!
Shea's House
The sun was setting. Shea was enjoying it. Chris was overseeing the business so she could relax a bit.
And relax she did, Lord knows she needed it. Her mind was blank, as she stared into the sky.
Suddenly she heard a loud bang. She was startled and looked in the direction of the bang.
She didn't realise she was holding her breath and her fists were clenched. She could see her gate open and a car drive in.
It was Mandy's car. Her mind eased.
She looked on as Mandy got out of her car and walked up to her. She noticed her walking style was that of one who is sad.
It was when she got closer was she able to see her tears.
"What's wrong Mandy? Sit here with me!" Shea was genuinely concerned
"I don't know what's wrong. " She muttered
"Is it about David? What did he do? "
"Nothing. He's fine. I'm the problem. I don't think I'm ready to date David right now. "
"That's not a problem. You should pressure yourself to date someone if you think you aren't ready." Shea paused then continued
"But you signed up for the dating app knowing that you would meet someone you like!"
Mandy interjected immediately,"I didn't know that would happen. I didn't think it would go this far."
"What was the plan?"
Mandy sighs. She needed to be honest with herself. She wiped the tears then took a deep breath.
"The plan was to use the dating app to make Mathew realise that he still loved me."
"Mandy! Come here." Shea held Mandy as she dropped in her arms.
"What about David?"
"I don't know. He kissed me the other day and things have been blurry ever since."
"You don't have to make a decision right away. Does Mathew know how you feel?"
"I don't know. Sometimes I feel he knows but if he does he doesn't do anything about it."
"You need to tell him." Shea said firmly
Mandy looked at Shea. She knew she was right. Mathew had to know
Happy Harbour
Rudolph hid beside the wall. He watched from the gate as a woman came out of the house.
She was dressed casually with huge sun glasses. She got in a car made for the gate.
Rudolph watched as the gates opened and the car exited the compound.
The car took a left turn. Into his direction. He seized the opportunity and jumped in the way.
Luckily was moving rather slowly. The car stopped at his feet.
At that moment Rudolph began to think that it was probably not a good idea to jump in front of the car.
The door swinged open and the woman jumped out.
"I thought I told you I never wanted to see you again!" Shouted the woman."I got you off the hook and we agreed you disappear from my life forever."
"I know. I remember"
"Then, why are you here?" She ran her hand through her hair," I shouldn't have stopped. I should have run you over."
"I have something to show you. Maybe you'll regain the faith you had in me. " Said Rudolph, sorrow in his voice.
"You stole from me. I loved you like family and you abused my trust. There's nothing you can show me that can make me change trust you again! "
Rudolph looked at her. The girl she knew was no longer there. Rudolph understood her though.
Rachel had built up a wall after her fiancee died and she found out her father figure was a no good thief!
"Jacob is alive!"
