Chris was far away from Shea's house. He needed to make an urgent call and he needed the peace of mind to do it. Without the fear of anyone listening in. He was at the memorial Park. It didn't hurt that Shea thought he went to have some alone time at his old apartment.
It was in the afternoon. The sun was scorching so Chris took refuge in the shade of a tree. The tree was small. Hence its shade was small; discouraging people from seeking shelter under it.
He had made the call. It rang for a while before a man with a sleek voice answered. Chris recognised him as Micharazo. His real name was Brian but no one really knew it, except Chris.
"It's Deimos. What of my brother?" Asked an eager Chris. The lack of knowledge of his brother's situation made him nervous. After their last separation, they had promised to stick side by side, forever.
"The people who were sent to rescue him are dead. Callisto himself is missing. No one has seen or heard from him." Replied the Brian
"What of the people who had him? Are they still in play?"
"I'm not sure. There were others, also dead, we don't know if there were more."
"This has gotten out of hand."
"What do you plan on doing?"
" To find and help Callisto. You know he has never trusted the Don's men. But he'll trust me."
" But the mission!"
"The mission is complete. I need extraction tonight!"
" You sure?"
"Tell them it happens tonight!"
Chris hang up. He was hyperventilating. He didn't like his brother being in trouble. And him being helpless about it.
Jack had always been Chris's guardian. Now it was his turn to repay the favour. He needed to know what he would get himself into. There was no point to go in half cocked and end up bringing more harm than good.
All he knew was that Jack had gone to Happy Harbour. Something about having some unfinished business.
"Are you OK, man?"
Chris was thrust back to reality. He was confused, looking at the man standing before him with a concerned look. Chris examined the guy from head to toe.
"You are breathing weird. Are you sick?"He asked again eyeing Chris, this time as though he was mad.
"I'm fine. Thank you. "
He started walking away. He needed somewhere more private, so that he could conjure up a plan.
Shea's House
Mathew came over to see Shea. He was rather nervous though. He had a briefcase in his hand. He sat in the living room as he waited for Shea to come down. In that time he had second guessed his decision to come to Shea.
"Hey, Mathew" declared Shea as she descended the stairs, "I'm sorry I took so long."
Shea had gotten up from bed better than the previous days. She slept well most of the previous night. She had managed to keep her trauma at bay.
"It's not a problem."
Mathew stood up. His hands were restless. He hugged Shea then sat down.
"I guess you came to see how I was doing!" She stated. She wasn't really in the mood for guests.
Mandy had gone off and hadn't said a word since. Olivia was too preoccupied with what she was doing that she barely talked to her. Ever since she told Chris about her trauma, she felt he was distant. You would think that losing contact with the people she was close with, she would welcome Mathew. But the truth was, she liked to be alone. She loved her friends, but there is that satisfaction that comes with sitting alone and thinking about stuff.
"So, how are you doing?"
Shea took a breath first then answered.
"I'm fine. Just chilling, relaxing my mind and stuff."
"Is Chris here? I want to say hi. " He couldn't believe he said that. I was the only way to be certain that they were alone. You know, without him asking without making it awkward.
"Oh no, he left some time ago. It's just us." She said with a little more enthusiasm than what she hoped for.
"Can we have a more private place to talk?" Asked Mathew
Shea got up slowly. She beckoned him to follow her. Mathew got up and grabbed his briefcase. He followed her into the study. As Mathew got in, she closed the door.
"What is it you want to talk about that requires this level of secrecy?" She asked in an amused tone
"It's about your father! " Declared Mathew
Shea smile receded slowly. Her face expressed a bit of worry. This was not the direction she thought the conversation was heading.
Happy Harbour
Jack couldn't believe what had happened earlier. What was Mandy doing in Happy Harbour? What was she doing with Elvis's son? His mind now gave him better ideas of how he could have handled the situation. I know. As though he didn't need it hours ago.
He didn't mind though. He knew he would have more time to deal with the situation once he got back to Old Town. At that moment, he had bigger fish to fry.
He was at the outskirts of Happy Harbour. At an abandoned paper mill factory. Jack recalled his steps, but after a few metres he didn't have to anymore. The place was already halfway dug up.
"Rudolph!" He cursed under his breath. He grabbed the shovel that was lying around and began to dig. He knew the body wouldn't be safe there. Plus, it wasn't right. Elvis needed a proper burial.
And his son needed to bury his father.
After sometime, he threw away the shovel. He pulled out a body bag from the ground and gently lifted it to the surface. He jumped out of the hole. He opened the bag.
It was Elvis alright. It's not like he went anywhere. He took the knife from the bag and placed it at the back of his jeans.
"I'm sorry man!" He said with genuine sadness.
Just then he heard footsteps."Stop right there. I've called the police."
Jack looked up to see Mandy. She was holding a metal pipe. Trying to look tough.
"Who are you really?" Asked Mandy with determination.
Jack knew how it looked. He knew he was probably a psychopath in her eyes. The fact that he shared a face with someone she knew didn't help.
Mandy stepped closer and got a better look at the face. She didn't believe what she saw. She recognized him
"Uncle Elvis?" She muttered
"It's not what it looks like. You don't understand."
"Make me understand."
Jack was just about to speak, but he stopped himself. He wasn't going to explain himself to her. The police were already on their way. He didn't have time for this.
"Screw it!" He got up and tried to lift the bag. Just then he was knocked in the head.
"Ow!" He whined as he glared at Mandy
Mandy was confused, "You were supposed to pass out!"
"Sorry, my bad!" Note his sarcasm
Mandy was going for a second strike, when Jack caught the pipe. He yanked it out of her hands and threw it away. Mandy began to back up slowly.
Jack completely ignored her and lifted the bag on his shoulder after stroking his head. It still hurt! Mandy was confused.
"I'm not going to hurt you!" Said Jack as he walked passed Mandy.
" As I said, it's not what it looks like. "
Mandy, confused, followed him closely.
"That's my uncle. You killed him."
Jack made his way to the car and tossed the body in the trunk. As he bent over, Mandy eyes came across the knife on his back side. She quickly grabbed.
Mandy held the knife to him.
"You aren't going anywhere."
Jack was not phased as he went over to open the door of his car. He turned to face Mandy. Just then he felt the knife piece his right waist.
A cry filled the air. But it was not Jack. Not Mandy either. Rachel ran towards Jack, who dropped to the ground.
Shea's House
"... It's just a theory but we think your father was killed..."
This caught her attention. She began to remember. She began to recall that night. The night she made her into what she was.
Her heart was racing. She was breathing rapidly. The scene began playing out in her head. She kept seeing her father get shot. Over and over again.
"Why?"
"Your father worked for a criminal. The bank where your father was a board member was a mob bank. They used to fund criminal activities like corporate espionage, black market sales..." Mathew went on
Shea had her back to Mathew. She couldn't even contemplate her father being a bad man. She loved her father and only knew his love for her. Love is pure. Surely a bad man cannot be capable of love.
"That can't be true!" She managed to say
Tears were welling up in her eyes. She couldn't see clearly.
"Shea, the facts are all here."
"Lies. Lies." She whispered repeatedly.
Mathew came close to her. He slowly held her hands, trying to soothe her.
She jerked and delivered an elbow jab.
"Let me go!"
It must've landed, because she felt a lot of pain. She had a series of thuds. She looked back. Shea wiped the tears from her eyes so that she could see clearly.
Mathew was on the floor. His head rested on the edge of the desk. His legs kicked in the air. Blood oozed out from his head.
Later
Chris arrived at Shea's house. He had a few hours to go before he completely disappeared from her life. He wanted to see her one last time. Not because he'll miss her,he will though. He just wanted to bid her goodbye.
This was his last mission as Gemini. His and Jack's. He remembered telling Jack when he brought him in.
"It would just be for a few years then we'll be done. It'll be over and we can have the lives we've always wanted."
Now all he needed to was to die, then find his brother. He was in a particularly good mood. He made his way into the house.
He went to the bedroom then back to the living room.
"Karen!" He called out
"Yes sir!"
"Did Shea tell you where she was going?" He asked
"Last I checked, she was in the study sir!"
Chris smiled. He would miss Karen. Always calling him sir. Such honor!
She opened the study door and entered. It was dark so he switched on the lights. The sight was horrible. There was so much blood. He titled his head to better look at the man's face.
Mathew! Holy Shit! What had happened here?
He heard a beep. He checked his phone. Wasn't it. He figured it must be Mathew's phone. He debated whether to check it out or not. He settled to satisfy his curiosity. He inserted his fingers into Mathew's pocket and fished out his phone. He pressed his finger against the sensor to unlock it.
It was a message from Olivia. There were five missed calls and three messages from Olivia in the past one hour. He looked at the pop up messages.
Olivia: Hey I my mother just
came over. But I did it.
It wasn't pretty. I need your
help.
Come on Mathew. I could
really use your support
right now.
Shea! She's not in the house. She must've snuck out without Karen noticing. But where did she go?
The only thing he knew was that he definitely wasn't staying at the house. He quickly switched off the lights.
