Chapter 52 - The Edge of Serenity

The party could feel the anger radiating from Paul and Dante. Ultas had just killed their closest friend. They marched around trying to figure out what to do. They stopped and knelt by Solomon's body, saying their peace and blessing his passing to the Land Beyond Death. They buried him right where he lay, as was custom in the land.

"You all need to go back to Helorion. Stay together, we will come back."

"Paul, what do you mean? Why would we turn around?" Zeno asked furiously.

"We have to take care of some things and we need you here to protect the people if they decide to invade outright."

The party and the Scholars parted ways, Dante and Paul headed to Academy and the party to Helorion. The party arrived two days after they left. They were given a large house to stay in as a courtesy for protecting the city. Samuel went to his room and sat down, reflecting on the death of Solomon. Rachel came into his room and closed the door behind her. She dropped her clothes to the floor and stood seductively at the edge of the bed.

"Do you like what you see? I think at least your little snake does."

"Uh, what are, what are you doing?"

"I'm here to let you have your way with me. We both need to release some stress. This is the best, and the most fun way."

Samuel gazed at her hourglass figure and embraced her, pushing her to the bed and making every movement, every breath seem like a desperate cry for more. They went on, switching around who was taking charge, embracing each other, rather loudly.

"At least he's a good guy," Mark thought.

Ultas and Voron summoned the assassians for a mission.

"You three are going to go to Academy and kill Paul and Dante. If they die, then the rest of them won't be able to defeat us."

The assassins didn't worry about how they knew where Paul and Dante were, they just set off to complete the mission.

Dante and Paul arrived in Academy about a week after departing from Lionsgate. They were tired from the journey and believed that some rest was well deserved. As they lay sleeping, their came faint glimpses of shadows, and distant noises. Dante and Paul began to feel uneasy, then they woke up. The assassins rushed them before they lost their chance, trying to take the two Scholars out quickly. Dante was fast, taking two swords and setting the three assassians against them.

"Paul, RUN!" Dante shouted, and Paul did. As Paul ran out, Sorrian chased him. Paul mounted a horse as soon as he got out, and Sorrian did the same, chasing right after him.

Agripian and Cansoulian circled Dante. Dante kept his swords up, keeping the two assassians away. They rushed him, and then the three began to dance. Dante outclassed Agripian and Cansoulian in bladesmanship and easily defended their attacks. But they were younger, and Dante began to tire. Cansoulian slid her blade into Dante's leg, and Agripian plunged his dagger into Dante's heart. Dante fell, his blood staining the white of Agripian's tunic.

"He fought with everything he had to protect his friend. Peace be upon you, Dante, I wished we could have been on the same side. Rest easy, and in honor."

Agripian and Cansoulian went back to Silverstone and reported their success. Sorrian had not yet returned, but Dante being taken out was almost enough. They sent the fastest bird they had to Helorion- they wanted to crush them in every way they could.
