Chapter 56 - Where Mercy May Lay

Agripian lead Sorrian and Cansoulian into Helorion where they were captured willingly and brought to the Protectors.

"Samuel, I've come here, along with my sister and my wife, to surrender our services to Ultas and serve the Protectors in an attempt at atonement."

"Why would you tell me? Who am I to you? Mark is far more intelligent and has superior bladesmanship, Paul is far older than all of us and has been our harbinger. You chose to speak with me specifically, why?"

"Samuel, it was not Agripian, but I who called an audience with you. You saved my life, and coincidently stole my heart."

"Sorrian, I have often dreamed of your return to me. I have to ask, when three of my comrades infuriated Silverstone, did you engage any of them?"

"I engaged Rachel, but not much of a battle was fought between us. To share in the love of a man is a difficult road."

As Sorrian was finishing speaking, Paul, Rachel, Mark, Jessica, and Zeno burst into the room. Paul and Zeno drew their swords only to be stopped by Samuel and Mark.

"Why are they here, and still alive, Samuel?"

"Becuase everyone deserves to speak their peace before they die, Zeno," said Mark in a quick rebuttal.

"Paul, what are your thoughts on this?"

"Samuel, I just walked in, and currently, I want to kill all three of them and maybe you. You would do well to explain."

"They came willingly and surrendered, offering their service for some small form of atonement."

Paul pointed his blade at Agripian's throat: "Why should I let you live? You killed my brothers. You would simply die here and for what? You only brought your bitches."

"PAUL, THAT IS ENOUGH!" Mark yells as he stands up for the captured assassians.

"They chose to surrender willingly. They can have their testimony. Agripian, tells us why we should allow you to join us."

"After you all fled from Sillsing, Ultas and Voron burned it to the ground. They killed every last soul there. Ultas left and Voron stayed behind with us to mock the dead around him. I could no longer stand by and let him live. We killed him."

Rachel spoke up, "you not only willingly came here, begging to be spared for some chance at atonement, but killed the second in command to our enemy?"

"He had to die, but Ultas is still out there. He's getting closer and closer to finding the Beacon Stone beneath the Silver Keep in Silverstone."

"And what happens if Ultas gets this Beacon Stone?" asked Jessica while the others nodded inquisitivly.

Paul spoke up, a slight quiver in his otherwise commanding tone: "He can reconnect magic to our plane of existence. He can bind all magic to himself with this and become invincible."

The Protectors darted their gazes as each one tried to grasp the gravity of their situation, then Jessica spoke up in a frenzy: "Where did Zeno go?!"
