Chapter 2 - Gift From Father

A few days later...

Right now I was walking down the streets towards the blacksmith. Along the way, I was receiving hateful gazes.

I just can't get a rest. It's because I'm a Hybrid and I can't hide it. Why, you ask? Because all demon hybrids have different color hair than a pure-blooded demon would have which is either black, red, or blonde.

I have white hair and my eyes are icy-blue, completely different from what a demon would have. Actually, I think I'm the only Hybrid to ever have white hair, not that it really matters, anyway. I am 175 cm with a slim athletic build with fair, yet pale skin. And that is pretty much everything I have to offer. My looks are... alright I guess? Not that they matter. Even if a Hybrid were to have good looks, they will still be looked down upon, not that I'm saying I have good looks. I just look like a normal teenager.

Upon arriving at the blacksmith, I was greeted with a sharp knife which I easily dodged thanks to my superhuman reflexes.

"C'mon old man, when can you ever learn to greet me nicely."

"Tch, I hate your apathetic attitude."

"No need to be so hostile, Mr. Sadkak."

Sadkak is the village's blacksmith. He is also one of my father's secret subordinates in the lower circles. If he hadn't known that I was my old man's son, he would've eaten me years ago.

Sadkak is an old lizard dude who manages to make weapons that are nearly unbreakable. Even Borin praises his handiwork.

"Hey, are my weapons by any chance done?" I asked as I leaned on the counter.

"Get your dirty hands off my counter, and yes, they are done."

Sadkak looked underneath the counter and brought out a suitcase. When he opened it up, there were two guns; one of them was blue with silver linings and the other was red with golden patterns. There was also a Katana. When I picked it up, it seemed to glow.

This... is not what I asked for.

"What the hell is this? This isn't what I ordered. Care to explain Sadkak? I didn't pay 1000 drachmas to buy two guns and a Katana. Where the hell is my original order?"

"Angelo, it is nearly impossible for one to wield 10 swords at once. When I told your father he almost fainted at the dumb decision you made so he changed it for you. You should be honored your father even granted this to you. And you never paid me, not once."

Shit, he's got a point. I'm too poor to afford anything.

He pointed at the katana.

"This sword was made by steel that can only be found in Cocytus, it is not something that should be wielded by low-ranks like us. Luckily for you, he was able to find material that can be mistaken for rust. That also goes the same for the firearms. Those were also provided by your father."

I rubbed my chin, then I asked.

"Did you make all this?"

"Me? Of course not. These were forged by light, something demons aren't able to wield."

"So why am I getting these?"

"A hybrid like you can wield this because you have two sides; your light is your human side and your darkness is your demon side. Since you are part human, you are able to wield these."

Tch, goddamn it. Why did my old man have to come interfere like that? I can wield ten swords easily. Even Borin saw me do it...

Actually, no that was a dream... but I think I can do it.

I sighed, "How the hell am I gonna use the guns? I mean, don't they need ammo?"

"Fool, firearms in the underworld are powered by your magical energy. That goes the same for other weapons such as bows."

I picked up the two guns. On the handle, my name was engraved on it.

[Angelo Osiris]

Hmph, looks like he heard about my name change. I bet the same goes for the sword.

I heard that all weapons have a name, so I asked Sadkak:

"These things got a name?"

"No," Sadkak answered. "But you can name them. Your father didn't want to name them without your permission so he passed it on to you."

Sadkak handed me three pieces of paper.

"Write a name and then place it on any spot you want. It will be engraved onto it like it was already there."

Me? Make a name for weapons? What does my father think he's doing? Handing unnamed weapons to a kid like me? Now I'm not the kind to be a great name but I'll try my best. But he better not think I'll like him just because he gave me gifts.

I inspected the red/gold pistol. When I picked it up, I felt it heating up the longer I held it. Eventually, it got to the point where it could boil water. Luckily for me, this kind of temperature doesn't affect me. I should see what it does.

"Do I have an area to test these?" I asked Sadkak and he nodded.

"Follow me."

I followed him to the back where there was an empty field with stone walls protruding from the ground.

I aimed the gun and poured my energy into it. It began to heat up and when I pulled the trigger, tiny flames shot out at lightning speed and when it collided with the stone wall, it exploded.

This thing was perfect. Despite it having a bit of recoil, it aims perfectly where I want it to hit. It's almost as if this thing was suited for me.

Since this thing would be a fire element, I should name it... Ignis. Yeah, that's a perfect name for a fire element weapon.

Now then, onto the other one.

I inspected the blue/silver gun in my hand. This thing was completely different from Ignis. It wasn't just the color, but also how it felt. Instead of heating up like Ignis did, it gradually became colder the longer I held it.

If I were to guess, this thing would fire ice bullets or something.

Well... only one way to find out.

I aimed the gun at a stone wall and poured my energy. When I pulled the trigger, I barely felt any recoil and I had to check if I actually fired anything or not until I looked at the stone I fired at.

It was completely encased in ice and it showed no sign of melting since it was near the burnt stone.

"Ice element, huh?"

Hmm... how about... Brina? That's ice in Italian.

Looks like I got two names out of three. Now it's just the sword.

I took and drew the Katana. The first thing I see besides the gold guard and the dark blue handle is the silver surface of the 25-inch blade.

At first, I thought it was silver but it gave off the feeling that didn't feel earthly. I guess it would be normal since this is the underworld after all. This must be the steel Sadkak was talking about.

Now to test it.

I walked up to a stone wall and placed my hand on the handle. I focused and aimed for the direct center of the stone wall.

When I drew the Katana, I felt as if I had just cut through paper. It was light too, like a feather.

I felt like continuing and I did. I kept swinging and swinging until all that was left was mere pebbles.

I spun the Katana and sheathed it.

Hmm, it's really sharp. No drag. I like it. I would name this... Mortel. That means deadly in French. I think I should use this only when I'm in a tight situation.

For now, I think I'll just stick with Ignis and Brina. Though, I think they contradict one another. One causes a fiery explosion and the other engulfs one in ice. But... I think it would be useful. One can be used to stun and the other for splash damage. There is another solution though. I can just limit the energy input and they can work just like regular bullets. Yeah, that can do.

After I engraved the names on them; Ignis engraved on the side of the red/gold gun, Brina engraved on the side of the blue/silver gun, and Mortel on the blade.

With that, I had my weapons. Though for now, I should keep them in the case because it would be weird for a Hybrid like me to flaunt out weapons like these. There are some freaks in the 2nd circle that I don't wanna meet. Heh, I'm kind of like a public enemy to them.

"Thank you Sadkak, I'll be sure to pay you back... when I have the money that is."

"Tch, just get out of here!" Sadkak yelled angrily, and I ran out of the shop.

Jeez, no need to get so hostile.

Now then, I think tomorrow is when I have to take the admission test. Of course, they are not gonna allow weaklings to get into the school. That's why I've been training these past 4 years. Well, it's actually 3 and 5 months but no one likes the specific details.

For now, I think I should just practice with these weapons. Maybe try to and embrace my weeaboo nature as I do that.

And so, the next day flew by.
