After I left the hospital, I went straight to my apartment. Nobody calls me. I guess they were not aware of my sudden disappearance.
I charged my phone and set an alarm at 4 pm in case I fell asleep. I still need to check on my mom at the hospital. I head towards the bathroom to fill up the bathtub. I just want to escape from everyone and everything I've been dealing with lately for a while.
After the bathtub was filled with water, I strip down my clothes and emerged in the tub. My eyes suddenly felt heavy and I fell asleep.
A loud ringing awakened me from my deep sleep in the tub. I got out of the tub and put on a rob.
I checked my phone and there were several missed calls from Aunt Jenny and a couple of calls from Lucas. I ignored Lucas's missed calls and instead I dialed Aunt Jenny's number.
It rang a few times before it was picked up.
"Hello, Rylee. Where have you been? You suddenly disappeared from the hospital."
"Hi, Aunt Jenny. Sorry, some urgent matters came up this morning and I have to leave," I lied. "How's mom?" I added.
"She's okay. For now. Are you coming back to the hospital?" She asked.
"That's good to hear. I won't be able to go there for a few days, I have to settle a few things with my publisher and it's really important. Please keep me update on mom's conditions."
"I will. Don't worry about it. I will take care of Megan while you're away," she replied. "Oh, and Rylee? Please take care of yourself and be careful wherever you are going," she added.
I smiled. "Okay, Aunt Jenny. See you later." I ended our conversation and dialed Mr. Flynn Mendoza's number.
It rang but nobody picked up so I called again a few times and still, nobody picked it up.
"Is he seriously going to terminate the contract? Or he's just avoiding me," I thought to myself.
It's getting frustrating trying to call someone who's not even going to pick up the phone. I tried calling again for the last time and this time somebody answered it.
"Hello?" A woman's voice answered from the other line. "Hello?? Is anybody there?"
I was silent for a moment because I don't know what to respond to the woman. "Err, yes hello. Can I speak to Mr. Mendoza?"
I could hear people chattering at the background before it was passed to Flynn. "I assume that you have something to say, Rylee?"
"I do Mr. Mendoza. I want to talk to you about my book and the contract you threatened to terminate," I said with a little anger in my voice.
"Now? Sorry dear, I'm a little busy right now. Call me some other time," he said and ended the phone call.
That jerk! I tried calling again and it went straight to voicemail.
I was so frustrated with him so I decided to go out for a drink or two.
I left my apartment at 6 pm and went straight to the nearest bar.
When I arrived at the bar, it was a bit crowded with young adults. I guess it was a popular place for people around here to gather and drink. I'm not much of a drinker so I don't know when is the best time to visit the bar.
I scanned the place for free space I can squeeze in. Luckily for me, there's an empty chair at the end of the bar. I made my way to the bar and ordered a glass of beer.
One beer after another and I already felt kinda tipsy. I was already blabbering nonsense. I was about to pay and leave when suddenly the bartender put a shot of vodka in front of me.
"Hey, excuse me. I didn't order this," I said while waving my arms at the bartender.
"You looked like you need something heavy tonight, so the gentleman over there buys you a drink," he said while pointing at the corner.
My vision was all blurry so I can't seem to see his face. Well, I don't care who buys me drinks, I'm going to drink it anyway. Who doesn't like free drinks right?
As I took the vodka shot, the taste of burning liquor in my throat somehow gave me pleasure and I needed more of that. The bartender was right, I do need something like this to ease my mind. So I spend most of my night at the bar and ordered more shots.
