Chapter 24 - She is Quite Deadly...

It's not long before Kaius is huffing and puffing his way from Theon, growling about 'more.' Vera creases her brow at the statement, curious by what he could mean. The siren leaves her quad to fend for themselves during this small time while she follows after Kaius.

The Wolvernrian grumbles darkly to himself, cursing his tata for more and Taliesin's silver tongue. The women always seem to stave him from his chores, especially within the pack. Kaius' not aware of the siren following him, nor does he realize the danger of it. He's furious to be the only one stalking the hunting grounds at this hour. Vicious night dwellers are infamous for killing the Wolvernrians with precision and strategy. There's a chance he could very well be killed tonight because of the extra mouths feasting around the table.

Kaius couldn't bring himself to blame his half-sister and her pups for this, though. It wasn't their fault they existed. If anything, his tata and radi were the cause of it. He was furious to hear about a new sister when tata brought up the truth, but when he met her, he knew right away she wasn't as overbearing as Taliesin or as self-segregated as Noelani. She's different than any Wolvernrian he's ever come in contact with. Vera's diverse, very deviating from his species, but that doesn't mean they can't co-exist with one another.

Kaius sighs in thought, trudging on into the dark foliage.

A single snap from the leaves behind him urges reality to come back, and in a singular motion, he has a female by the neck. It's before he can back her against the tree that his opponent strikes back, kicking her instincts into gear. Her fingers slap his face, leaving tiny scars from her dull nails. Normally, they would have left deep, undeniable gashes across his face, but because she was in another form this didn't happen. The female hisses, baring her teeth in defiance and warning. Vera detangles herself from Kaius' hands and stands several feet away, glaring at the unexpected attack. She was beyond pissed, but her will seemed to hold her back from pouncing on him once again.

Kaius breathes deeply, gritting his teeth. He demands, "Wha tar yuh doin' out here, Vera?"

Vera growls softly, "Carrying my load, as told."

The dangerous creature barely glances at Kaius as she passes, brushing away the puny leaves blocking her uncharted path. Her half-brother attempts to grab onto her arm, but she moves too quick for his reflexes. Kaius curses, stomping after her with an vexatious groan. He couldn't believe the nerve of this woman.

How could she walk into a dark forest without knowing of the inhabitants? Stupid female.

Kaius treks on, following her scent along the dew-covered leaves. He construed how Vera had been raised; by savages hungry for blood, sucking the life from one being to the next all the while denying a small part of herself as she follows the others of the Aquatican culture. Vaguely, he wondered if his sister was a killer, a hunter, like him by the way she tracks prints in the dirt and pauses mid-step, searching for a flaw in the trees. Her instincts were sharp, he'll give her that, but when she went right instead of turning left, where the perfectly sitting waninu with its dark purple wings fluttering in sudden movements was, he's convinced she's feigning it all. Kaius has no time to speak as she moves in the brush, loosing her figure from his searching eyes. After a minute of still air, the brunet no longer could hold back his panic.

As quick as a teveene, he gawks at Vera when she launches herself from six feet up a tree. In the utter beauty of the moonlight, Kaius' breath catches in his throat. There's Vera, jumping from a ledge with a fierce look in her deadly eyes. He notices the sharp claws extending her fingers multiple inches than a normal Wolvernrian, sinking the thick hooks into the scrawny pink neck of the creature. Shrieks alarm his ears as Vera rides the wild animal bareback, hissing and grunting with each gall-up she endures.

Vera's struggling to hold onto the bird-like creature's neck with massive wings and feathers flying everywhere. The colorful opalescent wings flap spastically in the breeze, harder and harder with every thrust of energy for a desperate escape. Vera wouldn't let this monstrosity leave, especially when it was her merling's starving back at the cabin. Vera must provide for her pod, otherwise, she was unfit for them. She couldn't allow one mistake or slip up in this fire matter. The dark haired female wrestles with the neck, wringing it to a close. The waninu balks, calling for help with every fiber of its life before it can be killed.

The creature runs with all four legs, bursting with as much energy as a raging bull on Earth. It tears through branches and dips below the trunks of the trees branching out into the twining forest in the dark. Vera bounces on the back of the wild, untamed creature. Her claws sink into the leathery flesh of the bird like a sadistic predator, and the quick action of gutting its neck causes the enticing being to tumble down into the dirt. At the sudden collapse, Vera wasn't expecting it so soon, but as the beast squirms to gasp a breath of life beneath her, the siren wraps both palms around the strange being's abnormally round head. A final, lethal jerk and the crepitous echo of grating bones rings through her ears. From the swift jerk of the flesh, the head becomes undone and the screeching fades. Vera tosses the head around in her claws, playing with the warm liquid seeping through its serrated veins.

With a quick sniff, the siren shrugs the deceased beast off and carries the head as a souvenir. She allows the body to bleed out before rushing off towards a stream. Leaving Kaius behind with the body, Vera rolls her eyes and stalks the enormous multiped chugging water. It's reddish scales glitter under the moon, reminding the siren of the water's surface. Calm. Tranquil. It doesn't last long, Vera knows, but she's willing to wait this creature out. Bring home four heads, not just one.

One for Atlas, one for Adare, one for Eira, one for Elsa. Vera counts off, patting the abnormally curved horns on the round beast's head that hangs off her body.

Vera's emerald eyes narrow at the sight of one head drinking, another observing the area, and the last sleeping. She eyes the head in the watering; it bobs in and out sucking the mauve liquid through six separate slits on its flat nose. The hood of the serpent was a brazen taiburg type of color. The fruit is very sweet and Vera could taste it on her tongue. Of course, there's no way she's be able to fetch the fruit; it's location is only found in Aquatica.

Vera trudges stealthily, blending in with the foliage. Her eyes don't leave the sleeping beast. She knew, for a Varken Warrior, a true predator never sleeps. There had to be some reason for the anomaly of it's extra mouthes, certainly not three sets of stomachs. As Vera observes the creature a bit more, she notices the large protruding fangs of the emerging visage dripping with black, silky liquid. It's forked tongue dips out to clear its fangs of the stains. She could smell the toxicity growing from the dripping water. This creature was tainted, in worse ways than one. Vera wondered what this beast was capable of.

When there's a crack of wood echoing the petite ravine, six eyes snap in the direction of which she came, and that's when Vera decided to strike.
