It was daybreak by the time the two siblings trek back with a fat load of meat for the tribe. Vera had greatly surprised her half, full blooded Wolvernrian brother, which much to her surprise, she found it welcoming. As much as she enjoyed the seemingly older, but knowingly younger male's company, she could see his eyes sparkle like a warrior's first allure to kill. Vera knew this would only become more complicated as time led on. She all ready began to attach a fondness to the handsome male, and not the reproductive kind. She found herself enjoying his company, despite the fact he was a product of that scheming landris. It was most odd because Varks hated social activities. Most despised guests and chased them away.
Vera found herself in quite the quagmire.
Kaius, on the other hand, was marveling in awe at how skilled of a hunter his half Wolvernrian sister was. It was truly an event to watch Vera hunt as she did. He's never seen a technique with such agility and strength to be used while composing one's self to camouflage into the shrubs. With Wolvernrians, they hunt with two to five, formations and leads they follow in order to track down suitable prey and preferable meat. Scouting took many moons and tender, good meat is scarce since the only beasts they seem to find in the daylight are decreasing, adapting to the night.
Wolvernrians weren't nocturnal creatures, only when the transformation overwhelmed them and during the aligning of the three moons. To hunt at night could be a death sentence, much as the reason why Kaius had dreaded going out again at dusk. He survived the night with a foreigner, and mostly because she did all the work. It astounded his pride, and hurt his soul. But much to his annoyance, he'd forgotten such petty crimes and beamed when she brought down several night dwellers. He knew Alpha would praise her well.
She had most definitely earned her keep.
The mekows, carthus, dankes, and kakes that litter the tribe's gathering shed are decreasing in amounts. Because if this, the Wolvernrians of Garnet were forced to cut hunting hours from late afternoon into the late night. Most of the creatures, such as the teveene and alberns she tracked and slaughtered had originally been afternoon creatures. Their cycles were soon changing, much like the weather. The cold months were approaching and Kaius feared losing anymore pups this time around. The cold was brutal and harsh, especially to young, unprotected pups.
Now, he had four tiny ones to particularly look out for.
As dawn creeps into the sky, the two share a laugh at the near death experience they just went through. Vera hauls the large bird, which Kaius has called a waninu, and the serpent like beast, which Kaius called a teveene. She was doing well to carry the waninu over her shoulder as she dragged the poisonous teveene by one of its still attached head, the one that could breathe flames. She'd quickly learned not to separate the heads until after ripping out the heart, but that just meant more toys for her pod.
Vera glances over at her brother; He carefully walks beside her within six feet, gracefully carrying a wild albern on his shoulders and several tiny golms, quadruped, pup-sized beast with massive paws and the tail of an amphibian, in his non-dominate hand. There were two more creamy alberns and about a dozen more golms back at the kill sight, the two couldn't carry them all. It was a two trip kind of situation.
As much as Vera thought Wolvernrians were ignorant, she was proven wrong. Kaius had done more than enough by providing her information about the creatures she slayed with her bare claws. After the initial shock of his first reaction, Kaius found a newfound hope in Vera, thus spilling all the secrets of the Forbidden Forest. There were many more beasts and oddities that dwelled within the trees, some that were even invisible to the eye the further you travel in. Vera would make sure her quad would steer clear.
When they reach the clearing, the outskirts of the tribe, Vera noticed the frantic disarray of organization within the strangely built homes. Many of the males charged the outer edges of the buildings, scowls marring their faces. There's no children playing within the forts, nor is there a female in sight. A sudden thought struck Vera, but she washes it away by the time Kaius's footfalls pound faster against the overbearing grass, stomping his way through the overgrowth with barely a struggle in mind. Vera follows after Kaius wordlessly, thinking it was wide to allow him to communicate the night they've had. She wanted to sleep, fall on the fluffy bed Marzena provided her with and snuggle into the fur sheets.
When Kaius speaks in hushed tones with his fellow peers, Vera grinds on without breaking a sweat. She notices their startled faces as she passes, not taking note of their awestruck gazed lingering on her. Instead, Vera nods to her brother and wades through the tribe. With each step she took, more pairs of eyes widen at the cargo she bares. The several heads of different beasts sway against her body from twine. Vera doesn't mind the blood splattered against her skin, only relishing the cool flow of the wind as it brushes against her face.
Many of the Wolvernrians of Garnet break their stature to blink at the average sized female gallantly exhibiting the heads of a carcinogenic teveene that's been seen as competition these high suns. The males of the tribe gawk at the unperturbed limitations of her strength, discovering a stolid importance in the female other than baring pups for future generations. It's a shift in the tribe that travels through the males. Simple words of gossip and flattery. By the time Vera had been paused in her path, the entire village knew exactly what she was capable of.
It didn't help that Kaius boasted all about his swift wind sister, blaming every catch on her.
