Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 This Overwhelming Power

The next morning I was awoken to Jin gently rubbing his hand up and down my thigh. I looked up at him just to see a huge smile on his face. I roll over and pin him down by his wrists and kiss him passionately. I asked him if he was trying to turn me on or not and not to my surprise you just see this big grin grow across his face. The thought of intimacy had crossed my mind once or twice but I always hesitate. Jin on the other hand knows what he wants and who am I to deny him. We continue making out for what seems like forever before we get ready for the day.

We head into town together to start working on the next story quest. Not knowing how many quests there are to this game's story we try to complete one every day or so. The faster we can win this the faster we can go home. As soon as we get into town we see an uproar happening in the town square. I looked at Jin with a puzzled look before running over to see what was going on. Everybody was yelling and screaming because of how many players have died since the game started and saying it's pointless to continue. Some players started saying that you have to finish the story quests if you want to leave the game. Others said they understood that but complained that the next dungeon has already claimed the lives of countless teams and that they don't want to risk it. They would rather stay in the town forever and at least be alive even if it's a digital world.

I turn to Jin and ask his opinion on what we should do. If what they say is true and those teams did die in the next dungeon should we even attempt it? He looks back at me and says that he wants to escape this game and be with me in the real world. I could feel my face turning a bright red at his response but I managed to smile and agree with him. The only thing I want right now is for us to be together for real. With our minds made up, we leave town to challenge the next dungeon.

I checked our map to see how long it would take us and it looked to be half a day's journey through the mountains. The faster we got there the faster we can complete the quest though so we didn't waste any time. Upon arriving at what seemed like the dungeon entrance we come across five other teams just battered and exhausted sitting outside. Assuming they were the lucky ones who escaped the dungeon I didn't know if they would want to attempt it again. Instead of asking Jin and I make our way inside.

With our level and gear being above 50 currently, we weren't too worried about the monsters or even the boss. Games like these were unfair that way. If you ground levels and gear then you could overpower the enemies and they wouldn't be as bad. With that mindset, we made quick work of the dungeon passageways while keeping an eye out for the boss room. After what felt like hours we finally stumbled upon a huge door. Could this be it I wondered?

We push the doors open just to see the horrific sight of all the players who attempted the boss and died. We make our way further inside and as the room illuminates the deeper we go I start to see what looks to be a figure lurking in the shadows. "Be on your guard babe" looking over at Jin with his hand on his weapons. The next thing we knew the shadowy figure appears between us pushing us to opposite sides of the room. Jin and I always fought in sync side by side but now we were being forced to fight solo.

The boss appeared to be a small child which seemed like a trick to make player's think that it wasn't dangerous but I knew better. I yell to Jin to be careful and don't rush blindly. I start the fight using my Reaper Slash just to have the boss easily dodge it. With the power I have no enemy should be able to dodge that easily. This isn't good I thought to myself.

The boss started going after Jin instead of me either because its programming assumed he was an easier target or some other strategy. I started to rush over to help him when all of a sudden I was frozen in place. This must be one of the boss's skills. There was nothing I could do but stand there frozen watching Jin attempting to take on the boss by himself. Blow after blow he landed on the boss seemed to do nothing to his health. As I try to break free I see the boss swing his sword and the shockwave he created sent Jin straight into the wall.

Jin hurries to his feet trying to dodge his attacks. He dashes over to me before the boss can strike again but the next thing I knew the boss runs Jin through with his sword and throwing him across the room. I yell NO at the top of my lungs as I just stare at Jin laying on the ground unable to move. I use all of my strength frantically trying to break free but with no luck.

The boss turns and starts heading towards Jin to finish him off and all I can feel is rage and hatred building up inside of me. I thought to myself is this my emotions taking over? Am I gaining more power because of the feelings I have for Jin? Am I in love with him?

The ground starts to shake beneath my feet. I manage to break free as I feel this overwhelming power surging out of me. The next thing I knew a pair of black wings materialized on my back. As the boss got closer to Jin and not knowing what was happening to me I rushed to his aid. As the boss raised his sword I thought to myself that I had to move faster. As the boss swung his sword down all of a sudden I teleported in between Jin and him blocking his strike with my scythe. I look at him and in my rage, I tell him that I'm his opponent.
