Chapter 1 - Jane Doe

She felt like she was falling into oblivion.

The air stung her back, rushed into her ears, and formed a blanket over her eyes as she fell. She didn't know how long she fell, but it felt like forever. She dared opened her eyes, and she caught glimpses of a tower surrounded by infinity, and everything went dark.

Even though she couldn't see anymore, she could still feel herself falling, however, it wasn't through air anymore. She was in water. The water was the darkness, slowly suffocating her.

Her mind was wracked with fear.

'I can't breathe!'

'Where am I?'

'I'm dying!'

'Someone... Someone please save me!'

Even though she was under water, tears flowed from her eyes as she accepted death. Water entered her lungs as she tried to breathe life giving air. Salty, dry, death.

'No!' Her mind wouldn't allow it. She wouldn't allow it. 'I won't die!'

Suddenly she opened her eyes, and she was instantly blinded. She was lying on the ground, face-up on hard concrete. She tried to open her eyes once more, slowly this time, although that in itself was a monumental task.

She was greeted by a flock of falling green leaves, landing just beside her. The bright blue sky was almost foreign, but also comforting to see. It's as if the world was back to normal.

'Wait, normal?'

Her thoughts were blurry, and the water where she was drowning in seemed to now concentrate at drowning her thoughts. She tried to catch some semblance of cohesive thought. It was incredibly difficult, but the shreds she can catch only held confusion and distress.

Her body was sore, or rather, everything was painful. Everything was absolutely crying out, and the slightest movement made her wince, then made her moan in pain.

She had to move. Despite every cell in her body crying in death-like pain, she had to move. Even if her brain is foggy, she had to move. Right now, she knows she had to do one thing, if she was to do anything at all, she had to move.

Every bone in her body crackled as she tried to cover her eyes from the light and stand up. Her eyes adjusted to the brightness, and her vision cleared. For some reason, she felt incredibly unsettled by the sight.

Trees, blue sky, sunlight. Her ears seemed to unclog, and she could even hear birds chirping, and children laughing. It was pleasant, but it unnerved her for some reason. It was normal. It was too normal.

Once she had her body working well, she realized something important.

She had no memories. All she knew was her name. For some reason, she felt that was enough. She felt like her name can give her enough to go off on. Even with nothing else.

Her name was Jane Doe.
