Jane swallowed the bile rising in her throat and threw her first punch at the dark mass on left. The "Thing" roared as it changed shape to dodge her strike. However, in one quick motion, she used the momentum to transition into a kick targeted at the monster on the right, but her foot simply passed through it, causing her to stumble on her own momentum.
She tried to recover as the "Things" charged at her, teeth grinding and gnashing. She was terrified. If she couldn't touch them, then she couldn't do anything to them. Even if she knew how to fight, she can't kill what she can't touch.
She screamed, matching, even exceeding the monsters' volume. "Someone help me!"
There was a strong gust of wind.
Jane looked up, blood flowing down her face. She was staring at someone's back. Someone tall, with a white jacket slowly being tainted red by the rain. It was a female figure, and she was carrying what seemed to be guns. The figure had flowing dark hair, and her silhouette was giving off a menacing aura.
"So you can see them too." The voice was rough, as if she was shouting for hours on end. Husky, but feminine. "Don't worry, I'm here now."
Jane could feel the pressure the woman was giving off, it was far greater than what she felt when she was near the monsters.
Then a flash, and the sound of 3 gunshots were heard, and the woman's face was towards her now. Behind her, the "Things" were slowly disappearing, dark globules evaporating into the red mist that is the blood rain.
Her features were rough around the edges. Her eyes were sharp, and seemed to be dead, but her smile was wide and warm. There was a strange but beautiful contrast in her features.
"Are you okay?" The woman asked her as she reached out her hand to help Jane stand.
Jane nodded.
"Good. It's not everyday someone suddenly appears in this nightmare." The woman holstered her two guns, modeled after an old revolver, but it was obviously much, much more powerful.
Jane was still shaking, but she was slowly calming down. While there was someone here who could answer questions, she needed to ask her questions. "Excuse me, where am I?"
"Hmm," the woman seemed to ponder the answer to her question. "First, answer me this. How did you come here?"
"I don't know I just..." She wondered if she can trust this mysterious woman. She had nothing at all to give, no life to go back to, no memories, nothing. "I took off my glasses."
In the woman's mind this was incredibly strange indeed. Glasses were meant to be put on, then taken off at the end of the day. It's almost impossible for someone to only now know of their abilities, if they did have them. "You've never taken your glasses off before?"
"Uhhh..." She had no answer to that, and the woman sensed it.
"Let me see your glasses."
The woman checked the glasses and realized something. The glasses were almost just reading glasses, it didn't magnify or minimized anything, it was just... Plastic. She handed then back to Jane.
"It seems you have a gift." The woman looked over her shoulder and noticed a massive horde of black masses with teeth and eyeballs. "We can't talk here. Come with me."
"What?! Wait," Jane stuttered, "I don't even know who you are!"
"I'm Lucy, and I wasn't asking". Jane suddenly found herself airborne, being carried like luggage by Lucy, the mysterious woman who she met not 5 minutes ago as they ran away from a horde of Eldritch horrors.
Little did she know that this was not going to be the last time this will happen.
