Chapter 2 - Arlong City, City of Nightmares

Jane scanned herself, distracting herself from panicking from the loss of her memories.

She was wearing a form fitting white blouse and a dark blue knee-length skirt. It seemed that she was in an office attire, but she couldn't remember herself being an office worker at all. She was almost sure that these were not her clothes, but she couldn't be sure. However, that's not what bothered her the most.

It was her glasses.

As far as she saw, her vision was perfect, so there was no point to wearing glasses. She decided to take them off, but the moment she touched them, she felt a massive headache hit her like a bullet. Reality started to crumble and glitch around her, she buckled in pain and was brought to her knees.

People started to notice her. She raised her hands and said, "I'm fine, I'm fine." She didn't feel fine, but at some level she was. Her glasses were important, it might lead to the truth.

Again, she braced herself, and quickly took of her glasses.

Everything went to hell. Quite literally.

The moment her eyes adjusted, she was horrified at the sight.

The blue sky was now a raging red, raining blood on everything. The people were gone, replaced by what seemed to be balls of light, shining at different intensities. The buildings were replaced by shadows that seems to be solid. Black and red lines streak across everything, pulsing as if they were veins and arteries. However, those were the least unsettling part of her new vision.

It was the horrifying monsters that were wondering about. She clutched her head. Simply trying to comprehend the monstrosities was making her dizzy, and the longer she glimpsed at them, the weaker she got.

The ground shook at her feet, and she did her best to stop shaking and look up.

A black mass of darkness stared her down, but it didn't have eyes. It was a large beast with teeth coming out of every possible plays. It did not have breath, but the pressure it put on the area created gusts of wind that shook Jane to the core.

She was scared. She was terrified. She was shaking. The more she looked at the monster, the more terrifying it looked.

She didn't realize that she was crying, but her mind was slowly recovering, and it knew she needed to do one thing. So she ran.

She ran, and ran, and that 'Thing' chased after her. It hobbled, but its movements were massive, and she soon found herself strafing side to side just to try and gain some distance.

"Damn it!" She was still crying, but she needed to clear her vision. "Someone! Please help!" She screamed, but it seemed that no one can hear her, and no one is responding. Her strength is still being sapped from her. She spied the buildings and placed her hope in them.

Jane quickly moved towards the buildings, and realized that they were just shadows. There was nothing solid about them. She cursed everything, but then a familiar instinct kicked it.

"I'm not going to die, damn it!"

She turned around and forced herself to look at the "Thing". It made her want to vomit, but she swallowed it.

There were now 3 of them, dark masses squirming with teeth and malice. It didn't matter. If she didn't face these head-on, she was going to die anyway, and she wasn't going to die.

Her body moved on its own and assumed a stance. Her mind may not remember how she knew it or what she was doing, but it was getting obvious that she knew how to fight. She just had to go with how her body flows.

She was afraid, but she didn't want to die.

So she readied herself to fight for her life.
