Chapter 21
Red Adamson ~
"I hate it when you're right." I heard Gar say returning the nudge I had given him earlier with a firm blow on the arm.
"Owww!" I exclaimed before giving him an equal blow on his arm. "Then, you are lucky that it does happen all the time."
Within a few minutes of the drive, Gar's face began to brighten up. It remained that way until his mom finally put the car to a half by the school.
"Okay Red, you two have a nice day. Okay??"
"Sure I will!! But as for Gar, I have my doubts." I said to Mrs. West as I got down from the car and then, consecutively shut the door with Gar who came out from the opposite sided door of the vehicle.
"He will... He always does!" Those were the last words of Mrs. West before waving us both goodbye not that we fancied it as she hit the road leaving myself and Gar to another day of boring old and regular school.
I and Gar walked up the stairs at the entrance into the hallway. We diverted into our various classes after the hallway bell went on signifying that it was time for the day's lessons to begin.
"Good luck with your algebra test." he said.
"Good luck with the breakup and becoming single." I replied with a friendly sneer before leaving Gar.

After roughly a long day of lessons and some tests and some pop quizzes in between, Mr. Glyn was ready to give us the day's send-off message. Halloween is coming up tomorrow and I guess the school authorities are thinking of going bigger than ever this year. Not like it really puts me up in a frenzy or anything but still, I'm tired of having the same old Halloween every year.
"….so like I was saying class, as you all know, tomorrow is the thirty-first day of this month of October and you all know what that means….." said Mr. Glyn with a face that made me think that he was expecting an answer from me.
"Halloween!!!" came the entire class in a very low and very lackadaisical manner most likely from some areas who didn't seem so happy with what was to follow afterwards.
"That's right!" "It's going to be the festival of 'All Hallows' Eve' and this year, you all are going to flip for what the authorities have planned out." said Mr. Glyn following a jovial smile. "As usual, we are going to have the um…. the 'The-Most-Wonderful-Costume' contest and the Halloween 'King and Witch' contest and those other stuffs you kids do but this year, to spice things up a notch, we were able to pull some strings and got Ryan and The Rotten Apples to play for the dance." he added and in an instance, the entire class was literally upside down.
For as long as I can remember, the students of this school have been trying so hard to make the authorities bring or hire an actual band to play for the songs at the Halloween festivity especially the dance instead of the lousy and old-school gym teacher but it has all fell on deaf ears. Having the authorities yield to the long-termed request must be a Halloween dream or literally speaking, a Halloween nightmare come to reality.
I, for one do not really see the importance of having one of the greatest bands in New York own the musical realm throughout the school's Halloween festivity. Let's just say that I'm not a huge fan of Halloween and all that witch and supernatural nonsense.
It's all fiction anyways.
"Calm down everyone!" "The band leader Ryan, agreed to take the gig as the lead 'male' singer but there seems to be an open spot for a lead 'female' singer as well as a guitarist and I was put in charge of deciding who that female singer is going to be from among the students so since there have not been any previous volunteers I'm open to anyone who has what it takes and is willing to do it. I doubt finding someone with a talented voice would want to miss out on singing side by side with a couple of some of New York's celebrities." said Mr. Glyn and the whole class went nuts with cheers.
This was going to be a once in a life time opportunity, having to sing a lot of Halloween-themed songs right beside Ryan McFlame. Too bad mom hasn't met this guy and had a chance to fall in love with music so she wouldn't have made me give up my favorite type of music – MINE.
She made me give up singing a long time ago even down to the slightest humming but sometimes I can't just help myself so I do.
I mean what harm can be possibly caused by singing?
If not, I wouldn't have minded filling in for that open spot on the stage. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I'm pretty great with music.
"This is your chance Red! Volunteer to be the lead female singer for the dance!" I heard Charlie say in a low tone with full smiles and a teasing poke.
"No way! My mom won't let me go for that and you know it." I replied and then somehow, I was so pissed off that I regretted what I had just done as a result of what subsequently occurred, courtesy of my best friend.
"Red said that she doesn't mind being the female singer, Mr. Glyn." "She is perfect for that's spot and I wouldn't mind being the extra guitarist." Charlie shouted in a loud tone making the entire class to turn to me. "Why does your face make you seem bashfully amazed? You know more than anyone here that I'm right." he added with a smirk.
"Red, you were once in the school's musical choir right? I remember you being great at your singing so yours is settled then. As for you, Charlie….. I have no record of memory where you knew how to pull an amp…."
"…I'll have my mom make you one-week fifty percent coupon to get whatever you want at the mall she runs." said Charlie with an inductive smile.
"It's all settled now! Charlie and Red! The lead female singer and guitarist." Mr. Glyn said before having a look at Charlie and another at his rickety watch.
I was speechless to say anything while all these took place.
"Riiinnng!!! Riingg!! Ringgg!!!" went the class bell signifying the close of school for the day.
"See you all at Hoowwll-ween." said Mr. Glyn doing the impression of a wolf's howl before leaving the class.
"Why on earth did you do that?"
