Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - The Market

Juliana

"What happen to your lip!?" Susannah rushed over to me. She had a beautiful bronze complexion with brown hair and grey eyes. She is an amazing friend who cares for everyone. There have been a few times she would come check on me on days I didn't go to the market because of a visible injury from my father. I would of course lie to her and tell her something like, I fell off the latter getting apples or I slipped while mopping. I don't know if she believes me but she is always there for me. Luckily this time I didn't have to lie to her. I was smiling excited to tell her what happen... well mostly the part after I was rescued.

"Can we go for a walk? I want to try and sell some of these fruits and vegetables. I'll tell you all about it while we do so.." I say smiling at her. She nods her head then we head out.

We have been walking for a while and sold almost all of the fruits and vegetables. I traded some for flour and I have enough money now to buy some beef for dinner. I finished the last part of the events from last night, "I thanked him then kissed him on the cheek and went inside. I didn't know what else to do."

"So wait. Some stranger came to your aide? And he carried you home? He didn't ask for anything in return?" She said quizzically. "What was his name?"

"Leonardo." I stopping to sit down near the water fountain in the middle of the market looking up to see her starring at me but then recognizing someone walking up behind her.

Leonardo

My demon has been antsy since I woke up, but he grew even more anxious after talking to my father. I can only imagine it's because of him wanting to find Juliana. I started walking unsure of where I am going. I saw the blacksmith shop then I smelled something familiar. Without thinking I follow this familiar smell of flowers on a spring day. It leads me to a tailor shop. But the smell trails off through the market. That's when I see her sitting on the water fountains ledge and we make eye contact. The person with her turns around and I hear her say, "That's the prince stand up!" I smirked and continued walking towards them.

They curtsied and greeted me, "My Lord." I couldn't help but star at her. I never realized she smelt like flowers on a spring day. I could sense the shock coming from her friend.

"Hello Juliana. I mean it, please call me Leo." I said smiling at her.

"Hello Leo." She said shyly bowing again. I loved the way she said my name.

"Who is your friend?" I ask not taking my eyes off of her beautiful green ones.

"This is Susannah. Her family owns the tailor shop here in the market." She tells me and that makes more sense as to why I smelt her there. "But we were just leaving. It is getting late and I need to get home."

"It is indeed. May I walk you?" I asked looking hopeful.

"It's okay Jules. I can walk myself back to the shop. I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked. Juliana nodded her head and Susannah left us.

"So what brought you to the market?" I asked her. Her cheeks turned a bit pink.

"I came to visit my father and brother and to sell these fruits and vegetables." She said gesturing towards her nearly emptied basket. I just raised an eyebrow. "I do need to stop and buy the meat for dinner before heading home." She said I nodded and we headed that way. I kept my hands behind my back. It was the only thing to keep my hands off of her.

"I saw you and just wanted to check in. I know last night was a bit traumatic for you." I said looking at my feet.

"I have been through worst." She said with a hint of sadness she was looking at her feet. I wanted to ask her what she meant by that then we stopped in front of a butcher shop and she got the meat she needed. I pulled the money out of my pocket and paid for her.

"I could have paid for the meat." She said as we were leaving trying to hide a smile.

"I know. I just wanted to take care of it for you." I said making eye contact. She blushed and it made my heart melt. I barely know her, and I would give her the world. We made it in front of the blacksmith shop and I was a bit confused.

"This is my father's shop. I was going to ride back with them." She said. Then a young man walked out and hugged her. My demon nearly took control over me. I gritted my teeth. "Leo, this is my brother Silas." She said after he let go of her. I calmed down almost instantly at this information.

"My Lord, it is a pleasure to meet you." Silas says bowing. An older man walks out and suddenly has wide eyes.

"My Lord, it's an honor to have you here." He says while bowing. "I hope my daughter hasn't bothered you."

My demon was furious! How could he assume Juliana would bother me. She was better than the air I breathe. "No sir, I saw her in the market alone and noticed it was getting late. I just wanted to make sure she made it home safe." I said briefly looking at her then back to her father. "I should be heading back to the palace myself. Thank you Juliana for the chat." I said smiling at her.

"It was a pleasure Leo." She said as she curtsied and I gave her a kiss on the cheek and walked away.

I could hear the anger in her fathers voice. "You aren't suppose to call him by his name. He is the prince. It is 'My Lord' and nothing else." My demon growled, 'Go back for her!' I shook my head and frowned. I couldn't because I didn't want to scare her. 'She obviously likes us, so why does it matter if it is now or later?' He asked inching under the surface of my skin to come out. I looked back to see her father slapping her across the face. I couldn't control myself any longer. I turned on my heels and rushed to her side and grabbed his arm as he was about to slap her again.

"She is MINE!" I growled and her father had fear clear in his eyes.
