Elijah wakes up to the sound of his blaring alarm. He waits a minute, hoping Kira would stop it, as she usually does. But the alarm keeps going on. He grunts and gets up to turn it off. Then he turns and falls asleep again. After about one hour, he gets up again.
"Kira, are you awake?" he puts his hand on the other side of the bed hoping to feel if she was there or not.
But there was no one there. He sits up on the bed and looks around everywhere. She was not in the room at all. Maybe she got up early and went to make coffee he thought. He gets up and goes to the bathroom.
When he came out of the bathroom, he goes straight downstairs. He enters the kitchen hoping to see her face, but she wasn't there. In fact, she wasn't there at all, in the entire house. He looks at every corner of the house, nothing at all.
Where didshe go? Maybe she went hunting? But why didn't she wait for me, was she waytoo excited that she couldn't wait? He thought of all the possible outcomes.
His stomach grumbles, he starts getting hungry. He walks up to the coffee machine; he adds coffee powder and water. He lets the machine do its magic. He walks up to the closet where he keeps his hunting guns. He opens them and immediately sees that one of them was missing.
She must have taken it, wow she actually found out where I kept them he thinks to himself.
He was a bit hurt that she left without telling him, even though they had many problems he still cared and loved for her.
Elijah forgot about the coffee machine, he runs towards it. He pours the piping hot coffee into his mug. He walks up to the window facing the yard. As he sips hiscoffee, he gazes across the yard looking for any traces Kira left. Nothing but trees for miles. He keeps on looking. Suddenly his eyes fix on something that was lying down, it looked like a bump on the ground with leaves surrounding it. It looks like a person. His heart skips a beat, he drops his mug, it shatters to a thousand pieces. He opens the door and runs towards the body.
"It can't be, it can't be" he mutters to himself.
He slowly turns the bodyso he could see the face.
"NOOOO!" he screams at the top of his lungs.
It was Kira, blood and scratches covered her face. He dashes inside and gets his phone in a hurry, almost cutting his foot on the broken mug pieces. He rushes outside and immediately starts dialing 911.
"Um yeah, hello 911? Hi,I'm Elijah, my wife and I came out to the woods to our family cabin for theweekend. This morning I woke up to my wife missing. I found her dead in ourbackyard. Yeah, okay I'll wait. Please hurry." Elijah cuts the phone and keeps checking for any trances of breath on Kira. He tries blowing through her mouth and doing CPR, but nothing happened. Hejust sits there next to her in shock. Her body was as cold as ice.
He hears ambulance and police sirens getting closer. Two people come out with a stretcher and pick Kira up. Elijah did not let them go, he grabs and holds on to her hand. The police hold him down; he stares as they load the deadbody into the ambulance.
"Sir, our deepest condolences to you. I mean what happened, is truly tragic. But unfortunately, we need to ask you a few questions. We understand that you can't answer any questions right now. Drop by our station tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Take care, sir, goodbye"
Elijah hears the police car and ambulance sirens depart away. He sits there in the woods still covered in blood. Kira's face and laugh flash in front of his eyes. He sees something sticking up from the leaves. He reaches and grabs it, it was the gun he found missing. He checks and finds out that all the bullets were used.
I have to take this to the police station tomorrow, he thinks to himself.
He goes inside and finds his wallet. He takes out a picture of Kira, that he secretly kept in there without her knowing. Tears roll down his cheek, he didn't even bother to wipe them away. He gawks at the picture for a long time.
"Why did you do this? I thought you loved me, but apparently, you don't. Why did you leave me, Kira? Whatever problem we had, we could have solved it. Why did you such a haste decision? Come back, please!"
Elijah brings the picture close to him, hugs it, and gives a kiss.
"Gone too soon, may your soul rest in peace. I love you, always did and always will" says Elijah as he whimpers under his breath.
