Chapter 8 - The Awaited Family Outing

"Wake up Elijah!" yells his mother.

Elijah instantly gets up by the sudden noise. His parents walk into his room.

"What happened?" asks Elijah confused.

"Nothing. Your mother and I have planned something fun for us to do today" says his father.

"Farah, get in here" yells his mother.

Farah walks into Elijah's room with an irritated look on her face.

"What mom? I was trying to sleep!" says Farah.

"Okay, guys listen, today we are going on a family outing. We will go shopping and eat somewhere nice. It's been so long since we were together as a family. So let's have fun today, get dressed" says his father.

Family outing, huh? Well, today is going to be fun thinks Elijah in a sarcastic tone.

Elijah can't remember the last time they all went out as a family. Those old memories seem to fade away from his mind. He loves that his parents have started talking to him again, he just hopes it would stay this way forever.

The sun was blasting. It was a warm afternoon. They decided to go shopping first. They went to this famous street. There was nothing but shops there. It was a famous staple of California.

"Okay guys, you both can buy anything you want. We'll pay for it" says his father smiling.

"Really daddy? Thank you, thank you!" says Farah and gives him a big hug. Farah and Elijah start browsing and pick out the best clothes they could find. After some heavy shopping, they start getting hungry. They find an excellent restaurant and have a hearty meal.

It's been a long time since Elijah had some fantastic food. He instantly thought about Kira. She was a superb chef, in fact, it was one of her hobbies. After eating, they spend some time talking. The waiter comes and places the check on the table. Elijah's father reaches for it, but Elijah grabs it before he could.

"Dad, I'll pay. You can get the car from the valet. I'll meet you guys outside" says Elijah with a smile on his face.

"Alright, Elijah. As you wish" says his father, secretly feeling proud of his son. They leave to get the car from the valet. Elijah checks the bill and places his credit card inside. He calls the waiter and hands the card. After a few minutes, the waiter comes and gives his card back.

"Thank you, the food was delicious," says Elijah and gets up to leave.

"Wait! Sir, someone left this for you" says the waiter as he hurries to catch up with Elijah. He was holding something in his hands, Elijah inspects it and instantly realizes what it is. It is a white envelope.

Not again thought Elijah. The waiter gave Elijah the letter.

"Do you know who gave it?" asks Elijah hoping to catch up with his suspicions.

"No, sir. The person was wearing a black hoodie and I couldn't really see their face. I'm sorry" says the waiter and leaves. A black hoodie thought Elijah carefully.

He opens the letter and took out the paper. He mentally prepares himself and reads the letter. In big black letters, it stood,

Do you think I'm lying? I repeat I know what you did.

I will keep fighting until justice has been served

Elijah was in shock. This person keeps hunting him down, for what? He doesn't understand that either. This person was stalking him, this person was in this very restaurant watching him. Chills ran down his spine. He kept thinking, what does this person mean? What justice? Suddenly he heard a very loud car horn.

Elijah turns around and sees his father gesturing at him to come. Elijah rushes towards the car with the envelope in his hands.

"What took you so long?" asks his father. Elijah slowly stares at Farah, who was busy staring at her phone.

"Nothing, someone left me a letter, that's all" he states loudly hoping to get the attention of a certain someone.

Suddenly Farah looks up from her phone and looks directly at Elijah. When she catches a look of him staring at her, she turns away quickly.

"A letter? From who? What was it about?" asks his mother.

"It was from an old friend, she just wanted to talk to me, as it has been a long time," says Elijah, lying through his teeth.

"Ah, okay. Well, come on get in, let's go home." says his father. Elijah opens the back door.

"Make room for me too, Farah," says Elijah with a glare in his eyes.

Farah moves towards the right. She seemed to be thinking of something, thoughts were taking over her. She mutters something to herself.

"I'm sorry, did you say something? I didn't quite catch that" says Elijah. She looks at him, stunned that he heard her.

"Uhm, no. I didn't say anything. Who was the girl?" asks Farah.

"It was just a girl that Kira and I knew from high school. She was just asking me about how I was doing, you know after Kira's death and all" says Elijah.

He notices how Farah gets uncomfortable when she hears Kira's name. She puts on her headphones and starts listening to her BTS playlist, as she stares longingly out the window.
