Chapter 11 - The Status System: Limited Options

The shower's rain stung like the residue lighting that persisted after a surge of lighting. Cypher stood staring at the new wound; his arm was now in a state completely different from the one it took before, and the pain that it served him even at the slightest bit of pressure was its way of proving it. Regardless Cypher turned off the water; he had finished up a while ago and just found the pain something to become mesmerized at. His clothing was a little more than just ruined, and he decided to make something new; Cypher grabbed his ruined clothing and walked out into the living room, only draped in a towel, headed towards his room. Anna and the newly arrived Cain and Gallow turned to look at him, though Anna was the only one who kept her eyes on him as he entered the room. Cypher stared at her as he walked, and after a few seconds, she finally turned her gaze back to the running television.

Cypher closed the door behind him and turned on the light to his room; sitting on his bed, he prepared all the material he needed to reconstruct his clothing. Along with his already existing fabric, he added sheets and bundles of new threads; he generated three mana orbs behind and started. As he watched the fabric unravel and wind itself together, the thought of his mother flooded his mind; he remembered the words she spoke to him that seemed stupid a the time, but now he understood why she forced him to learn clothing rewire. "There's no reason to bring different outfits, everything you wear is going to end up destroyed in one way or another, so it's best you just learn how to repair what you already have, and you're lucky because usually, you'd just have to have multiple of the same clothing, but you have me as a mother." As Cypher finished the internal monologue, he continued to help but sigh at the extent his mother truly loved to decorate him regardless of the fact, but thanks to that, he had some idea of how fashion worked.

Cypher kept the new design simple and close to the original; the fitted ash white shirt-like hoodie would be extended to his wrists, though on the left arm, the fabric would be held in place with hidden buttons that can be undone to free the arms. Along with the thin hood being removed and the undershirt being made to act as a light golden membrane on the shirt's underside. The golden strings would be removed from the hoodie and reutilized as stitching for the twin golden X's on the hood's back. The black jeans would remain the same if not remained slightly to add more confrontation and make them a little thicker, and his white shoes with golden strings would be remade to reset them in their durability. When Cypher was finished, all three mana orbs had been used up; he let out a sigh and decided to wash his new attire before dawning it. He draped the clothing over his shoulder and walked towards the laundry machines; the walk there, he heard the shower running and Cain and Gallow seemingly waiting for their turns to clean themselves. Cypher continued and threw his clothing in the washing machine; afterward, he walked back and sat down on his specific chair next to the couch, and decided to speak to Cain.

"Cain," at the sound of his name being called, he turned his head towards Cypher and left his appearance unnoticed. "A lot happened, and I want to ask you some questions." Cain tilted his head upwards, "You don't think it could wait until you dressed" Cypher just shrugged his shoulders and stood to make some clothing to wear to be allowed his conversation with Cain. Cypher used some of the leftover scraps from the clothes he had just created; instead of using any more of his untouched fabrics, he constructed a pair of black shorts, a white shirt, and undergarments. When he was finished, he walked out and made his way back to his chair; Cain turned to address him and, this time, kept his head level. "Now, what did you want?" Cypher sat and thought for a moment; he used the time to compose a list of the things that plagued his mind.

The voices and the ideas they presented of something so much greater than both he and Tyr's spoke of, the opening words of his voice claiming that he was playing with children's toys, the disgust and anger it felt when it realized the other voice was invading its domain, the fight that took place that Cypher didn't remember, and even Tyr himself. There was a lot Cypher wanted to ask about, but Cain wasn't the person he wanted to ask those questions; Cain sat patiently waiting on Cypher as Anna left the shower, and Gallow didn't bother waiting for the water to heat up. Cypher realized that he didn't sit down with an actual question ready for Cain; he shook his head and finally remembered his discussion with Stiegend and finally found a problem. "Do you know anything about mana orb creation, in the sense of creating a unique one specific to one's self?" Cain just nodded his head as if it was common knowledge and raised his hand and began forming mana in a creative style that didn't match any he knew, but as the orb was halfway finished assembling, it dispersed.

Cypher titled his head in confusion,  "Creating a mana orb formation style is the most difficult thing you can attempt to do." Cypher looked at Cain and understood that he just planned on leaving the conversation there, so he pushed it forward himself, "Why?" Cain leaned back on his spot on the couch and answered, "Because there are several combinations that do attract and that don't, the ones that don't are the ones you want. A configuration like an attack and status orb doesn't exist because the combination is too chaotic. With the same token, an attack and nullification orb can exist and does. Still, it's nature is so contradictory that all the benefit of it is nonexistent. The idea of nullification orb is problematic to begin with; its nature makes it so it can only be paired with an equal opposite. Which is the attack advancement."

Cypher nodded his head, and Cain continued briefly, "You should already know the pre-existing creation forms, the new set made by Tarron, our Father's legion member." At that point, Cypher let himself get lost into thought at the idea of creating his mana folding technique, but the thought was interrupted when Cain spoke again. "And what's the idea behind that clothing thing you can do?" Cypher raised his head to look at Cain and answered, "It's a simple enchantment and manipulation technique my mother taught me." Cain's eyes squinted in disbelief before he replied, "No, it's not," Cypher just stared at Cain. "The ability to manipulate any pre-existing matter is-" Cain cut himself off and just shook his head. "Never mind." Cain sighed, and Cypher was lost at his frustrations.

"Regardless, how do you plan to progress with that arm?" Cypher looked down at his heavily damaged appendages and shrugged; he'd almost died when he used the thing, though that was nothing new. "I don't plan on waking early anytime soon." Cain nodded at Cypher's message and stood, "There's a lot wrong with you, though don't take that as an insult." This time Cypher was the one who leaned back; he stared up at the ceiling and just began to wonder about how everything was set to progress from here. He spent the last six months training specifically for Steigend's event. He'd hoped some rematch would be part of the apology, but that didn't come to pass; instead, he had something even more interesting presented in front of him and told to ignore it for his safety.

Cypher made himself comfortable on the cushioned chair as Cain felt for his room, unwilling to wait for Gallow, and It didn't take long for Cypher to pass out. The hours past and Cypher had no new dreams; he awoke with a closing door's sound and fading footsteps. His body was much weaker than it was before, and he couldn't keep himself you,p but that last thing he saw was that he'd fallen from the comfort of the chair and was now on the floor.
