Chapter 12 - The Status System: Resolutions

The door to the main entrance of the dorm room was pushed open by a lectured Cain. Gallow had spent the better part of the trip telling Gallow why what he did was stupid; not so much wrong, regardless it was something Cain didn't want to have to loam over him, so he was dead set on apologizing to Anna. When both he and Gallow stood in the living room, they both noticed the door to Cypher's room was opened, and both he and Anna were openly talking, well, at least Anna was. Cain tried his best to ignore the conversation because it could be something he wasn't meant to hear; regardless, that didn't stop him from walking into the room. He was met with the sight of Cypher sitting upright on his bed facing the door and Anna next to him with a fair amount of distance between them; Cain sighed, walking closer before he began to speak.

"I-" Cain's words were cut off by Cypher standing up, and in one swift motion taking out his legs; Cain's knees hit the floor, and Cypher placed his left arm on Cain's face. Cain's eyes widen, and Cypher just looked down at him with a sad expression as he generated a mana orb; the already twitching veins on Cypher's arm seemed to become energized as the mana orb was set in its configuration and before Cain could even react the blast was set off. As the pulse of lightning left Cypher, he felt a set of hands grab the collar of his shirt and saw Gallow grab Cain by his and rip him out of the way of the blast. The Wound Burst struck the wooden floor and splintered the wood with no difficulty in the slightest, the secondary impact of the strike set off, and the detonation sent splintered bits of wood flying.

The action had been too fast for anyone to truly react, leading to the blast just barely missing Cain; a small cut was made apparent across his cheek. Moments past and no one spoke, not even Anna. Eventually, Cypher shook off Anna and walked towards Cain, and kneeled to meet his eye level. "I've truly no words for you. Though-" Cypher was cut off by Cain, weakly waving him off, Cain managed to break out of Gallow's grip and sit up. A smile spread across his face as he spoke, "Understood." Cypher titled and landed on his back, he tried his best to keep up the act, but the strain he put on his body in that one attack drained him of everything he had, "I'm just glad you didn't choose to fight back." Gallow and Anna both just stared at the two as they softly laughed; Gallow saw Anna go through several emotions of which most were lost and replaced right as they appeared with an even stranger combination of feelings.

Gallow decided that it seemed like too much work to decipher them all and including his own, so he just walked over and helped Cypher to his feet. "You're still in bad shape then?" Cypher managed to continue standing on his own and decided to speak on his feet, "Yeah." Gallow just nodded as Anna moved past Cypher and sat on his bed; Cain got up and said, "You got a list of your problems?" Cypher looked past Gallow at Cain and answered with hesitation, "Anna made it for me." At that point, Gallow and Cain turned towards Anna to hear her speak instead of Cypher; she just looked at each of them until she finally realized what they were expecting her to say, at which point she decided every problem she knew about Cypher condition, "There are several things that overlap, and their severity is still unknown to me. Anyways, he has obvious stamina and fatigue issues, his body has become overly sensitive, especially in his left arm, his blood clots are in a shifting, and there is a constant supply of healing gel coming off of him no matter how. Much I try to heal him."

When Anna was finished speaking, Cypher had finally lost all of his strength and was forced to sit down; he felt his body ache with the small movements, but there was nothing he could do about it, so he didn't bother voicing any complaints. Cain sighed as he sat at the small desk in Cypher's room, and Gallow just stared, lost in thought; Anna seemed to be the only one wanting verbal communication to continue. Whether or not Gallow noticed it, he chose to speak out, "Why exactly did you choose to create that attack, and how did you do it." Cypher let out a small groan as he leaned back and laid on his bed, "I saw The fight before, and it was nothing but a disappointment; I saw the fight between us becoming something akin to what I saw before, and I could bring myself to be content with that. He seemed to have a similar mindset, so after the brief exchange we had, I decided to see if I could override his nullification."

"And in your mind, that meant sending a recoil at him and causing yourself to recoil again," Anna spoke with a strong tone that turned her question into a statement. Cypher took a deep breath and just nodded his head in agreement. "I didn't recoil." Cypher feared that she'd strike him for correcting her, so he tried his best to flex his muscles, but it didn't work; his body gave out before the first muscle group got into position; lucky enough, she didn't bother hitting, instead just asking, "Then why is your arm even worse than before?" Cypher questioned it himself, but the answer he gave was the obvious one. "The attack," Everyone looked at Cypher, at which point he let himself relax and decided to answer Gallow's second question, "I didn't try to make the attack look like whatever it did, it just came out that way. I didn't mold it, and I didn't do anything other than use lighting and necrotic."

The room was plagued in silence for a few moments before anyone spoke, more so because of their interests being in their thoughts rather than anything else Cypher could say at the moment. This persisted until Anna had enough, "Okay, what about the fight after that?" Cypher felt his chest get heavy at the mention of it. "Oh, yeah. I'd forgotten about that; I meant to ask Cain about it." The feeling that Anna would strike him came over him again, and this time Cypher looked over at Anna only to be met with a gaze that justified he strangle feeling. Cypher quickly turned his head to avoid her gaze, "What do you mean you don't remember?" The tone in Anna's voice told Cypher he better has a good reason; Cypher questioned why Anna cared so much; what had happened that made her so invested in it.

"I was bleeding out and near-death after the first actual strike; I don't remember a lot." Cypher mentally sighed with relief as his words came from him without a single thought needing to be placed into their creation. Though, even with that being the case, it seems like Anna didn't care much for his explanation. "Then why do you constantly say you refuse to lie to me so you won't tell me anything." Cypher mentally cursed himself and, this time had to think of how he'd fix this without causing more problems; he even questioned why he decided to hide what happened to his legion. He thought he had a good reason, but right now, he couldn't think of anything; he almost gave way to speaking to complete truth but decided that whatever caused him to keep quiet before was escaping him now. "And I've remained true to the statement; I won't lie to you nor anyone in this room. I don't know what happened during the second half of the conflict."

Another blanket of silence fell over the entire room, and this time, it was a while before anyone said anything, "Alright, Cypher's okay and Anna staying with him to make sure he doesn't die in his sleep or trying to stand for longer than five minutes. He doesn't remember the second half of the fight, and something happened that he doesn't want to speak on until he has a greater understanding; I've no reason to stay, so I'll leave you alone," Cypher nodded, and Cain stood as he spoke and walked out of the room; Gallow hesitated but followed suit. As Cypher turned to Anna about to talk to Cain called out. "Oh, and just as a reminder, I won't hesitate to leave if my father demands it of me." Cypher looked down at his bedsheets and stared at them for a while, that was until Anna showed concern on her face; Cypher straightened up as much as he could and playfully asked her what they were planning on eating.
