It was an rainy afternoon in June, the cool breeze fill the pastel yellow decorated with aesthetic flowers walls. Mirana was the one who helped designed their house. She sat by the window with a mug of hot chocolate. Taking a small sip, savoring each time it touches her tongue.
She just couldn't believe everything that happened this year. The five boys who she had little meaningful encounters blossomed feelings for her. Their confessions took on a drastic change. "How did it end up this way?" She sighed.
The first one, Johann, the man whom she shared same interests. Books, art, even her love for dogs. She just couldn't really accept it that he liked her in a more romantic sense. Their strings of their friendship stretched to its very limits. She needed time figure out everything. It would be unfair if she accepted and yet she is unsure of her true feelings. Unfair for her and very much for him.
Cain, well, she liked him as a person would like that one secret friend. The unguarded conversations, true intentions and unmasked selves spoke for the both of them. 'You bring the best of me Mirana.' The one sentence Mirana has been waiting to hear from her certain someone. But it came from Cain. It felt so different knowing that she hasn't known him for a very long time but it certainly felt that they did.
The calculated yet carefree boy, Tobias. She most certainly didn't expect him to do the same as the others. But nevertheless, he did not let go without a fight. Against all odds, he will fight no matter what. He'll never accept that he will just say yes to everything. She dug a hole in his heart and she just can't let other people bury it. No, never.
'I'll do anything to win your love. I promise you in everything that I am. I will do my best in making you happy. We may be young but I know very much that time may test us but I know we will overcome.' James said full of confidence. He meant it very much. Each single part of him meant it. He is beyond serious. Mirana just couldn't say no. No one with a sane mind would too.
Lastly, Kayden. He was the least of the least person who would have come up to her and confess. His was a little to much but it fit in the moment just right. Just the others before him. Each confession was special. She would find it very hard to choose. Kayden would not take no for an answer. Even if it came from Mirana herself. That's what Mirana thought.
Their stories unfolded one by one when the little fateful encounters keep on coming. The tiny gestures that melted the hearts of each man. The continuous development and overlapping stares. The heartfelt moments and things that are exchanged. Everything is special. It is up to Mirana to handle it in the least hurtful way possible. Heartbreaks can be as painful as any physical wound.
The future of it all.
"Do you actually think she will be happy with you?" Cain said with distaste. He simply could not lose Mirana so someone so petty like Johann. They settled it amongst themselves at the back of the academy's gym. Where none could see and they can let loose completely.
"Who are you in the position to say that to me bastard?" Johann hated Cain as much as he hated his rivals. Mirana gave him so many of his firsts. He wouldn't let Cain take her away from him. He will win, he'll make sure of it.
In a different area, Tobias, Kayden and James had a heated argument. Just like Cain and Johann. They'll settle it like civilized men. They had class after all. Tobias clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. Kayden stood calmly with a smirk plastered on his face. James had an evident frown on his fair skin but he still tried to compose himself. He wouldn't try to stoop down on Tobias's level. He had too much pride.
"None of you can make her happy the same way I do. Gentlemen, we know that all too well. I carry the most authority here so, back down." Kayden said with absolute certainty. He smirk at the both of them. It seemed like James and Tobias can't stand the same place as him.
"You? Please. You are so fucked up in the head you'll end up hurting her." Tobias let out a sarcastic laugh. 'Kayden is so fucked up with delusions of Mirana saying yes. Too bad, she'll say yes to me.' He knew that Kayden had too much baggage knowing his status. Mirana wouldn't dare to utter yes.
"You only have authority but without it you are nothing Reele. I wouldn't want to stoop down with these level of audacity. I'll let Racie decide for herself because unlike the two of you she would want to let other people see her as an object." James knew Mirana would be mad if she found out he is involved with these freak shows. He meant every word he said.
All of them hated competition. They were all winners in their eyes but their fate with Mirana will be decided my Mirana and hers alone. She has the final say. It took so long for Mirana to finally understand their intentions but she wished she knew early enough to prevent all the chaos. The friendship that she cherished to all of them is beginning to crumble down like rundown wood.
"When did it all go downhill?" She sighed once more. Taking a sip of her hot chocolate. Looking at the cup that made the muddled reflection of her. It is in fact delicious but it felt a little sad. Sadness, quite a bizarre description of a cup of hot chocolate whose purpose is spark joy in your soul.
