Another day, another hassle for dear Cain Adamson. Everyone out there was just interested in him because of what he can do and of course, his prominent family name. No one really dared to tear down his walls. Absolutely no one. The reality for people like him is that they all want a piece of you to manipulate. Just a tool for their own benefit. No way in hell would Cain be treated as a puppet.
Cain is currently heading towards the library specifically the innermost right corner of the library. It had a small sofa and it is the quietest part of the whole library. The library was fairly large and he moment entered the smell of inner peace filled his nostrils.
He then skidded to his favorite spot only to find a sleeping brunette. The book she was reading was placed on top of her chest and Mirana slept peacefully.
'Hmm, should I wake her up or leave?' Cain pondered. 'I'm not rude enough to wake a person from a nap. Maybe I should just go and find somewhere else to sit.'
Cain turned around and is about to leave but paused because he heard the brunette cutely sneezed. Mirana woke up from her nap and took out her pink handkerchief; she wiped out the sweat from her face and sighed.
"That was a good nap, good thing the Arts teacher was out." She stretched out her arms and legs. "I should finish this and go find Genie."
Since the sleeping brunette is now awake, Cain can finally reclaim his spot. "Excuse me, you're in my spot." Cain said with absolute authority in his voice. "Oh, I really like this place because it is the quietest part in the library, um, how about you take the couch and I'll sit over there?" Mirana pointed at the beanbag a good two meters away from the couch.
Mirana stood up and began taking the books she previously read. The book entitled 'Inferno written by Dante Alighieri' caught Cain's attention.
"You read books like this too?"
"Uh, yeah I suppose so. I like how Dante depicted the nine circles of hell. It's pretty interesting. It's kinda cool how this book is here though." Mirana held the book.
Cain nodded in agreement and Mirana proceeded to head to the gray beanbag. Cain's serious eyes followed Mirana and continued to gaze at her. "Do you know who I am?" Even if the question came from his very mouth, he's surprised by his own words. 'Of course she knows me, I mean who wouldn't?'
"Um, ah, hmm." Mirana stuttered. 'What should I answer? Should I say no? Well I really don't know him. What if I offend him by not knowing who he is?' In a school full of criticism, not knowing someone whose name is an important figure is social treason. The people will make rude remarks and imply that you're prideful, stupid and adjectives that come along those lines.
Mirana was so deep in thought that she stared at Cain the entire time. Cain felt a little weirded out. He cleared his voice. "Earth to you." She snapped from her trance and answered questioningly.
"Ah, yes?"
"Stop lying."
"I really don't know the names of the people here because I don't listen to rumors and it's just me and Genie, his my best friend and Johann. I only have a small group of friends and I try my best not to be noticed too so, um..."Mirana played with the tips of her long hair which was held by a pony tail. "Sorry, if I offended you are anything."
Cain stared at Mirana with a smirk. 'What? She doesn't know?'
"What's your name then, hm?"
"Mirana Lockheart, you can call me Mira."
"So Mira, who is this 'Genie' person? Such a peculiar nickname." Cain flipped a page of the book he is reading. "His name is Alistair Eugene. The Genie part come from the his second name Eugene. My mom decided the nickname."
"I see... Do you come here often Mira?" 'Ah, Alistair Sparks, the heir of the fashion business managed by his mother. How did someone like him meet someone like her?'
"Yeah, every time the teachers call in sick or out. I come here alone usually. Genie spends the free time sleeping in the classroom. How about you?" Mirana realized she doesn't know the handsome man's name yet.
"I come here whenever I see fitting. Whether if I need fresh air or peace. Some alone time too perhaps. And yes, my name is Cain Adamson. Very well, since we are fully acquainted with one another, I hope you talk to me they way you interact with your friends." Cain meant the last sentence. Atleast, he can't be guarded all the time. He can talk to someone with ease. In a large library, only a few are willing to go at the area where Cain and Mirana met.
"Ah, yes of course Cain. It must be tiring trying to keep your guard up everytime." Cain covered his mouth. 'How did she notice?'
"Genie told me that keeping up with the appearances and fake a smile are very tiring. I never really felt that way here since I try to exclude myself in every gathering and make myself unnoticed."
"Yes, very tiring indeed." Cain let out a sigh. "Trying your absolute best in entertaining people and securing a place for you in a company full of authority takes a lot of effort, especially when you have four older siblings. Training yourself to be the best out of the best, numbing out your feelings, perfecting a perfect smile and making sure there is no error found in your wording..." Cain suddenly stopped talking. 'Why am I taking out my frustration her?'
"I apologize for my nerving behaviour. Pay no mind of it at all." Cain pondered, 'venting out on a complete stranger is so wrong.' He stared at the window longingly.
"No need to apologize, sometimes letting it all out is a good thing. You can trust me... I'm not a daughter of some rich man. I'm just an ordinary daughter of a loving mother."
"You are a scholar, yes?"
"Yup, I really don't talk this much with others too. Since it's just you and me here, I guess it's fine."
"Yes, it is fine. Don't tell your Alistair you met me here. Keep it a secret from anyone..."
"Okay Cain... I should be heading out now, I have 15 minutes 'till the last period starts. Bye, I think we'll meet here often huh?" Mirana looked at the clock, time flew by so fast.
"Goodbye Mira..." Mirana waved farewell to Cain and left the library. Cain sat at the sofa once more and picked out another book.
'I need to run a background check on her.'
