Chapter 4 - Fourth: Love Poem

Johann, Mirana and Alistair walked to their next class which is English. Tobias had history. So naturally, they would part ways. Tobias notices that Mirana liked to be with Johann, much to his dismay. Johann is a rather collected and quiet person but he surely talked himself quite too much with Mirana.

'Get a hold of yourself Tobias, there are a lot of fish in the sea.' He thought. No matter how hard he may deny the fact he likes Mirana, he surely do. A part of him really do. He reasoned with himself that it is just a simple crush. Nothing more, nothing less.

'Why do I like it to be more than just a crush?' Tobias stood still for a moment. He is shocked by his very own thought. 'Yo, Tobias, get your shit together. No, no, no. She is just a crush. There is probably nothing wrong with that, right?' He let out an exasperated sigh. 'If it was just a crush, why don't I like it if she talks to the other new kid?' He was just so lost to his own thoughts when he accidentally bumped to Cain Adamson Rivers.

Cain Adamson Rivers are one of the most influential names in the academy. His family is full of talented people and most are prodigies. The pressure on him weighed him heavily. Just like any other individual in the academy, the pressure alone is enough to kill you. Some may appear carefree but the school is a battlefield. Every man for himself – or so he thought.

"Ah, sorry man. Didn't mean to bump into you." Tobias apologized. "Just watch where you're going next time." Cain replied. Tobias looked at him once more before proceeding to go where he was headed.

His other classes went on smoothly for Kayden. He's loved by everyone, knowing his handsome and smart too. A very dangerous combination. Despite the fact that he was, he hated it all. He hated how he still have to keep a façade just to please people around him. His family, his so called 'friends' and probable business partners. His family is run a series of banks and real estates. He needs to keep his mask on in order to make more allies. Meet new people and learning more about whether they are beneficial.

He doesn't have enough time dwell on petty feelings. To him and the world he's been raised in, love and happiness cannot be attained no matter the effort. These can be used as weapons. Weapons so deadly enough to bring you to your knees.

Kayden thought of Cain Rivers. 'I wonder how I'll get him to be my ally.' Kayden needs to get close to Cain. He could be a formidable ally both in school and the business world.

"So Kayden, want to join the basketball team?" A classmate asked. "Yeah man, I bet you're good at it. They offer tryouts for the new kids." Another classmate supported.

"No! How about joining the art club?" Another interjected.

"No! The music club!"

"Lame, how about the literature club?"

"No losers, he clearly wants to join the tennis club."

His classmates continue to banter which club he should really join. Not leaving any room for him to speak for himself. 'I wish they could all go away and leave me alone, such a pain listening to them talk nonsense.' He thought darkly but still continued to smile.

The teacher entered the room. "Class settle down. Okay let's take today's attendance." Everyone immediately settled themselves down. How he wished someone would be willing to take him away from all the chaos. The pressure. The sadness.

Meanwhile for Mirana, she liked Johann's composure and how he talked about art. Someone like him is hard to find in a school full of aristocrats – entitled rich brats. She also found out that he loves dogs but he is unable to get one because his parents never wanted to. That fact alone made her like Johann more and more. Alistair like Johann, unlike other rich people he met before, he's pretty cool and he sees that Mirana has taken a liking to him.

Johann on the other hand, realized he's been talking a little too much ever since he met Mirana. She didn't pressure him in any way, which made Johann feel at ease. It is without a doubt Johann liked Mirana.

Johann sat beside Mirana's left while Alistair was on her right. Johann looked sideways to face Mirana. 'I wonder if I can get her to go with me to the bookstore'. Mirana felt eyes on her, she noticed that Johann has been staring at her. "You okay Johann?" Johann looked away, averting his gaze. 'Shit, I've been staring way too long.' He thought.

"No, nothing's wrong." He spoke in a calm manner.

"Um, alright." Mirana fidgeted on her seat. She proceeded to concentrate on class. Alistair noticed the way Johann is looking at Mirana. It was the look.

Alistair smirked and planned to talk to Johann later. To test the waters perhaps.

Last period ended and everyone is preparing to leave the school grounds. "Genie, you done? Let's go home." Alistair hurriedly picked up his bag. His ears perked to a certain male voice. "You guys go home together?" Johann questioned. The thought of them going together made his chest hurt. 'Why do I feel this way?' he shrugged off his own thought knowing they are just best friends. 'Only just that, I hope.'

"Yeah man, the path to our homes have the same direction. So yeah." Mirana butted in. "Bye Johann, see you tomorrow." Alistair and Mirana got out first leaving an uncertain Johann inside. He let out a sigh and got out as well.

'It can't be helped then.' I'll just find a perfect opportunity later. No need to rush things.

"Man up James! This is finally the day you put your letter inside her locker!" He inhaled deeply. Mustering the courage to put his love poem inside the locker of the beauty that caught his eye since first year. A flashback to when his first encounter with Mirana filled his mind. No matter how cliché his first meeting with her was, it felt like a fairy tale to him. It just hits differently when it's finally you who gets to experience such emotions.

Her brown hair fluttered to the wind. She was waiting by the mahogany tree. She finally turned around and waved happily, a grin plastered on her face. The way she turned felt like time went on slow motion and his heart stopped. James waved as well. But he was embarrassed beyond his lifetime when Alistair Eugene Sparks went past him waving to the beauty. She was waving at him. How humiliating. James literally thought she was referring to him. He even waved back at her.

A blush crept up to his cheeks, he cleared his throat. 'No matter how mesmerizing that memory is, the way I thought it was me she waved to, is too cringe worthy.' This added to the list that keeps him awake at night. He looked left and right to see if anyone is there. He slipped his love poem inside and rested his palms on her locker. 'I hope she leaves a reply. Please leave a reply' He prayed silently before leaving.

James felt amazing. After years of searching for the courage to put the poem inside her locker, he finally did it. The paper, ink and effort done him a great gratitude. He happily went inside the car that was waiting for him.

"You appear to be in a good mood, Sir James. Something good happen?" His driver asked.

"Oh yes Jack. I believe you can see me smiling from ear to ear for a couple of days. Better get used to it." James enthusiastically answered. He's over the moon today. 'I hope she replies though'. He slapped both of his cheeks. 'Lucky for her, I'm very patient.' He stared at the tinted window waiting for his arrival.

'I'll wait for you Mirana, I hope you'll wait for me too.'
