The alarm clock rang loudly – it showed 5:00 AM, but as much as Mirana wanted to throw the clock across the room it costs a good $2.50. Mirana is not the one who wastes money. She is a morning person and sometimes she wakes up before the alarm does. She may be a morning person but she hated with passion sounds that cause her great annoyance – for instance, the sound of her alarm.
Mirana entered the bathroom with haste. She loved cold showers. The water flowed down on her slender figure. For her, showers is where she can think about heavy thoughts with a cool head, literally. She then dressed herself up and made her way down the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Tick tock. Tick tock.
Only 45 minutes to go.
"It's about time you guys went down here." Mirana chuckled. Her mother and siblings sat down to the kitchen stools.
"You make the best pancakes Mimi." Minthos said in delight. The family continued to gobble down their food and the rest dressed themselves accordingly.
Mirana double checked whether the stove was switched off and the doors are locked. Michelle called her name to get inside the car. The twins are already inside.
"Mimi, honey, time for us to leave."
Mirana hopped inside the car and they left to school. First to drop off was the twins.
"Take care loves, pick you guys up later!" Michelle shouted while waving by the car window.
"Yes mom, bye!" Minajane said. Minthos only waved goodbye to them.
"So Mimi..." Michelle cleared her throat. "I want you to remember that-" Before she could finish her sentence, Mirana finished it for her.
"No boyfriends, stay out of trouble and do good."
"I know honey, which you um, ah know. I just want to keep on reminding you that-" Mirana cut her off once more. "Don't ever depend your problems of men. Because once you do, you never when they might try to use it against you. Also, the man exempted from the rule is Alistair."
The brunette mother let out a sigh. She guessed that she can't keep babying her precious Mimi forever. Mirana also had to learn some things the hard way.
She then dropped her off. Mirana got out of the car. "Take care mom!" She beamed.
"Tell Alistair I said hi okay?"
"I will mom, bye." The blue eyed teen then waved her mother farewell. She then hurriedly walked through the hallway and before finally reaching her locker, she spotted Alistair Eugene Sparks, her one and only best friend.
Alistair let out an excited shriek and hugged her tightly. Mirana did the same.
"How have you been? Gosh, I miss you so much, Mimi." Alistair said dragging the so while hugging her as tightly as he could. Mirana is the one who broke the hug. "Been doing fine I guess. Just so you know two months of summer vacation is too short. Got to spend time with my folks in the countryside. Mom says hi by the way."
"Oh, lucky you, your family loves you." Alistair let out a frustrated sigh. "Mine, you just don't wanna know. Helping mom in the fashion business is okay – only the probably good thing in my summer. My stepfather, Henry. Gods in the heavens above, somebody please wipe him off the map. That homophobic douche." Tap his foot repeatedly, he is deep in thought. "When do we get to go on vacation together? Like, singing and dancing crazily by a campfire near the beach? You know best friend things."
He smiled brightly "We could wear matching outfits! We be lookin' all cute and stuff." He sighed dreamily. "Yeah, maybe we can bond when break comes. Seriously, why are we talking about these plans when it's literally the first day of school." They both laughed.
Mirana and Alistair got their schedules intact and as if on cue, the bell rang. They went to their first class. Never once they were separated from one another, they always have the same schedules. Mirana met Alistair when they were both eight years old. They just clicked.
Alistair's personality compliments Mirana's so well. They can literally sense each other's feelings. He is more playful, a social butterfly and sometimes, quite narcissistic. Whereas Mirana, she is more calm, collected and passive. Alistair is like Michelle's fourth child. Michelle absolutely adored Alistair. Alistair treated Mirana's family more of a family than his own. Alistair's mother is always busy, his stepfather was a nightmare and his three other siblings are a big no.
Alistair even calls Michelle, mom. Not that Michelle is bothered though. Alistair came out as gay when he was in seventh grade. Of course, they all took it well. No big deal. They were happy that he was able to tell them something so heartfelt and private. Michelle always taught them that gender doesn't define a person future nor mistakes. Up to this day, Alistair never told his family, knowing his homophobic stepfather, it will be a disaster for him.
The math teacher, Mr Borris entered the room. "Okay class, settle down, hmmm... I see a lot of familiar faces, yes? Today, there will be new students joining us today." With that, the classroom burst with whispers.
'Gosh, I hope they're hot.'
'Mr Borris said students, right? How many could they be?'
'I won't expect much, maybe it's a girl this time.'
Then, three ever so handsome men entered the room. They were lean, cool-looking and give off the I-will-steal-you-heart-instantly vibe. The first one introduced himself first.
"Hello, my name is Kayden Harris Reele, I hope we will get along well." He winked at the girls in the class.
"My name is Tobias Micheal Standford, nice to meet you all." He smiled brightly. The girls in class had their eyes open wide at the precious eye candies. The man who is taller than the other two introduced himself. "My name is Johann Sebastian Volkov." He said coldly. The girls were swooning, gossiping and shrieking with excitement. They were without a doubt infatuated with these men.
"Psst, Mimi." Mirana faced Alistair. "Do you think one of them is gay, though?" Mirana laughed while covering her hand on her face. She proceeded to playfully slap Alistair. "Genie, no, just no." Mirana said while laughing in between.
"Besides Genie, they are too, I don't know, masculine? For that."
"That is what I said to myself five years ago."
They both stared at each other for a split second before cheekily laughing.
Since Mirana and Alistair are too busy in their own little world. This caught the attention of Tobias. While him, Johann and Kayden went to their respective seats, he stared at Mirana. 'Wow, she's pretty.' He thought.
Class then resumed accordingly. It was only a matter of time when it was finally lunch break. Kayden was surrounded by all the popular kids. Mirana and Alistair decided to eat by the empty table near the window. Mirana brought her own lunch of course. Even the cafeteria food is rich.
As they were eating, Tobias spotted them and approached the eating teens. "Hey, mind if I seat here?" he asked. "No, go ahead." Alistair answered. As they sat, they talked about random stuff like movies and family. Alistair did most of the talking, it seem like he was talking for both Mirana and him.
Tobias didn't mind Alistair but he wanted to get to know Mirana more. "Um Mirana, tell me about yourself." Mirana is somehow shocked that the new kid wanted to get to know here. "Ah, um, I like art and all that, paint stuff you know." She answered shyly. 'What an awful introduction.' Mirana dreaded herself. Alistair chuckled at his best friend's attempt.
"Sorry Tobias, Mirana gets a little shy around new people. It'll take time if you want to get her talking."
Tobias looked defeated, he truly wanted to know more about her. "Well, we are classmates, there is much time."
Out of the blue, Johann appeared. "Mind if I sit here? I searched for empty tables and benches, all of them are crowded." He stared down at the brunette lady who was eating egg rolls. "Ah, sure man, go ahead." Alistair said.
When Johann sat, the atmosphere suddenly changed. It became silent. Alistair cleared his throat and decided to break the silence. "So Johann? Uh, got any hobbies?"
"Sketching." This got Mirana's interest.
"Do you paint too?" She said out of impulse. Johann looked at her.
"Yeah, I paint. You paint?"
"Yes, I mostly do flowers and landscapes. I'm still practicing how to paint people."
Tobias stared at Johann then at Mirana. 'What the? He got Mirana talking just like that?' He felt his stomach turn a little. As they shared tidbits of something about themselves. Johann kept staring at Mirana. 'What beautiful baby blue eyes.'
Mirana felt Johann's gaze on her. 'I think I can be friends with him.'
They continued to talk their break away until the bell rang.
