Chapter 40 - Piece of the Demonic

By the time Valefar had returned to the station with Barbie, the woman got out of the car with Tombstone in her hands, protected by the gloves given to her by the Representative. As she was in front of the 9th precinct building, various MPD officers ran out together, heading towards their parked cars.

"You stay here for the time being, I need to check on a particular someone." Valefar told her.

"Let me guess, someone made a deal with the Arms?"

"What? No, it's kinda different." Valefar spoke of Amato Fallaci. The man from Little Italy as he recalled had offered to look for the Hellfire Arms, in the hopes of the Representative packing his bags from Morissey and going back straight to Hell.

Heh, Valefar spoke in his mind as he began to drive himself to Little Italy. He kept his speed at a normal pace. Even if Barbie knew he was a demon, and other people had their theories when they saw him floating in the sky, he still had to keep a low profile. He arrived in the area where things were quiet. Few people, all of them adults, were on the streets going about on their day.

"If I'm lucky, a Hellfire Arm might be here." Valefar took out a compass he got from the Gunsmith's crate. The compass itself was in a deep shade of black, and the arrow was red. It was still silent for now. "Not yet." He then stopped at the sight of a passerby, a very familiar looking one. The passerby was carrying some paper bags in his hands. He froze in place as Valefar exited the car, grinning.

"You." Amato Fallaci spoke with a tone of displeasure. "I thought you were over there helping the MPD out."

"I can't really help them directly because I'm bound to my own terms as a Representative." Valefar explained. "Besides, I thought you were at home ever since you made a visit to the MPD."

"Someone has to buy what they need for their family." Amato countered. "Although I doubt you understand."

"I get it." Valefar closed the door of his car and locked it with a snap of his fingers, approaching the Italian. "Any news about the Hellfire Arms here? If any?"

"Not here." Amato spoke as he looked left and right. "Follow me back to my place." Valefar did as he was told. The Representative followed the man up to his living quarters, before the man spoke in a cheerful tone. "Mona, mio amore, I'm back! And we have a guest!"

"A guest?" Mona Fallaci got out of the kitchen just a few feet away from the front door. She was wearing blue. She stopped at the sight of Valefar. The Representative's posture and suit stunned her, as did his piercing gaze.

He gave a smile smile and an equally small bow. "Buona giornata, signora Fallaci."

"Buona giornata, messere.."

"This is Valefar." Amato explained right off the bat as he placed the groceries he had on a coffee table. "He works with the MPD, and that detective that came here before."

"I see." Mona spoke.

"Papa!" Marino Fallaci's voice called out from the staircase. He was holding some wooden toy soldiers in his hands. "You're back!"

"Marino." Amato said as he saw Valefar. He then went up the stairs. "I'll talk to you later Valefar."

"Valefar?" Marino asked his father before he was dragged by him back to the boy's room.

"Would you like some tea, Valefar?" Mona asked as she went to the kitchen.

"I would appreciate that thank you." Valefar spoke as he followed suit and took a seat at the table. The kitchen was coated with a light shade of blue, accompanied by yellow and white. A calming atmosphere indeed, with the spoon being used to mix the sugar in the tea was heard by Mona. She took a seat herself by the time she gave the tea to him.

"Thank you." He said as he took a sip. The look of concern and suspicion appeared on her face as he placed his cup and saucer down. "You can be honest with me. I'm certain your husband has told you about me, but let me make it clear: I'm not The Devil you think I am, I'm not THE ONE."

"You're still one regardless." she pointed. "Some people came back to the area from the city, saying that they saw a man floating in the air for some time before he disappeared. Why are you here?"

"I honestly thought the word came out, or at least humans have some idea." Valefar took another sip of his tea. "But it wouldn't hurt to pack a reminder, but in your case, your husband offered me to help find the Hellfire Arms back for my boss."

"He did apparently." Mona said with a sigh. "As if us having to deal with the idea of avoiding Hellfire Arms wasn't a trouble of its own."

"Think of it this way Miss Fallaci. I didn't ask for this, my boss didn't ask for this. All this happened because of some Fiend that thought freeing many of them to spite my boss was a good idea." He paused as the woman continued to look at him with a certain glare. It wasn't the good kind, but could he really blame her?

"Excuse me." she said as she got up from her seat and went to the cupboard, taking a wine bottle out of it. She then took a glass and proceeded to fill it with the wine on the table. The Representative watched in amusement and folded his arms. She frowned when only half a glass was filled.

"Amato! We've run out of wine!"

"Really?" Amato spoke as he went down the stairs with his son. "Mama!", Marino cried out. "I'm hungry." he stopped at the sight of Valefar by the time he arrived at the table.

"Hello." Valefar spoke in a calm tone.

"What kind of name is Valefar?" Marino asked in curiosity. "Are you from another country?"

"Marino-" the boy's father intervened before the Representative spoke.

"Would you like to see some magic?" Valefar asked as the boy nodded. "But I'm going to need a glass of water." As he said that, Marino went over the kitchen counter and picked up a pitcher filled with fresh water, before pouring it into a new cup.

"Pay attention." Valefar said as he positioned his hand on top of the cup, before circling his hand in a motion. As his hand moved in motion, the Fallaci family saw the surface of the water slightly shaking, before a red hue began to appear, its color akin to red wine.

Unbelievable, Amato thought as he saw the water turn into wine up until it's top surface. Marino on the other hand, had his eyes widen open and let out an O on his mouth.

"Wow, WOW!" Marino spoke.

"This is how I get wine easier." Valefar chuckled as he drank the wine. He soon felt a vibration in his coat pocket. He picked up his compass. It was vibrating, and the arrow on it was glowing. Hellfire Arm, he thought. It was pointing to the East.

"Valefar, I need a word, alone." Amato spoke as he dragged Valefar outside of the house. "I know I said what I said at the station, but the truth is-" he paused. Valefar saw the man's eyes, they were full of fear. "I can't do this. I know what the President said before, but I just cant' put myself on the line finding these demonic weapons. I don't want anything related to it."

He continued. "I came here to achieve the American Dream, Valefar. How is it so far? It's good but I'm still far from it but with these Hellfire Arms, it's a nightmare now."

"Alright." Valefar said as he placed his compass back into his pocket. "You can stay with your family, just leave the rest to me and the others."

"What?" Amato spoke and stuttered. "Are you serious?"

"You think I'm going to force you?" Valefar folded his arms. "I'm going to deal with a lot of shit on my way until this is all over, and honestly, the less you in particular get involved. The better for me, and for you." he paused. "Humans have always been complicated in my eyes, but you're one of the few that's, in my words, sane. In my book at least, you don't deserve a piece of the demonic. I personally agree that you and your family deserve better, than all these Hellfire Arms running amok."

He ended. "I can't guarantee the other demons won't try and temp you and your family just like other humans as life goes on, but I'm certain that you're one of those people who's strong and can resist."

"I-" Amato stuttered. "Thank you, Valefar."

"You're welcome." Valefar spoke as Amato began to make his way back to his front door, but stopped and turned himself back facing the Representative. "Actually, there's something I need to address, I figured you should know."

Valefar raised his hand slightly. Amato cleared his throat. "Recently there's this youth, probably in college or graduated, but he's been acting strange. He's from here and he used to do some part time work at the bar, but I never heard anything about him other than him being quiet and apparently idolizing some woman named Odette."

"Odette?" Valefar raised his eyebrow.

"I've never heard of a woman by that name, but he's been acting, odd, and some people are worried. The guy's a good soul, even after his parents were gone, but believe me when I say this: his eyes, no pupils, just pure white."

Crap, Valefar thought. "Anything else? Was there anything coming out of his body?"

"I think." Amato replied. "Had an odd looking necklace on his neck, silver and red."

"I think I get the picture." Valefar said as he took his compass up again. It was still glowing and was turning right. "This guy you mentioned have a name?"

"Anthony Defici." Amato spoke, and that was the last word he said to the Representative. The Italian would remain among his family from here on out.
