Chapter 2 - Foreboding

Leonel Williams, a man following a long line of Williams', a prestigious family who can almost perfectly trace their roots to 500 years ago, to days after The Great Reset. Their earliest known ancestor was a man who happened to survive that perilous day. He was one of many who helped create the earliest of footholds for humanity. It wasn't much, just makeshift shelter amidst all the rubble, but it was those same shelters that helped keep tens of people fed and safe, till tens of people became a couple hundred, then a couple thousand, and after all these years that small shelter went on to become the country it is today, Grayleon. The people who all came together to help create that shelter were a group of ten, a ten whose descendants went on to form the first council of Grayleon, but somewhere along the lines that ten mysteriously became 9 with one of those families disappearing from the council and likewise from the minds of many. This brings us to the present day with Leonel Williams, also known as Leo, the last remaining son of a forgotten family, living in the capital city of Grayleon.

Making his way through the small compound that is the school, is a young man dressed in attire that you'd expect to find in medieval Europe, who is entering the prime years of his life. With broad shoulders, skin the color of bronze, and better looks than most, you can't help but think that he is brimming with confidence if it wasn't for his nonchalant reputation from school that is. That same nonchalant attitude seems to be nonexistent right now though, as stepping forth in confident strides towards the exit of the school compound is a man with a certain zeal present in his eyes.

Reaching the exit of the school, Leo sees a certain old man waiting for him

"Ah little Leo, there you are, what took you so long?" said an old man with a warm smile on his face.

"Didn't expect to see you here gramps, don't think I can make it home alone?" chuckled Leo.

"I was there on your first day of school, of course I'm going to be there on your last! but did you get in trouble on your last day? It took a while for you to come out."

"You know you didn't have to walk all the way over here for that gramps, and everything's fine, Ms.Canter just wanted to talk."

"Of course I did! I did it for your father and I'm doing it for you, little Leo, and if you'd go out and find yourself a girlfriend maybe I could do it for your son too! Hahaha"

Still both standing at the exit of the school, an almost eerie silence formed after the old man finished his hearty laugh, with both Leo and the old man just standing next to each other both appearing to just stare into space. After a few minutes of this silence, Leo finally spoke.

"Gramps, I'm doing it," said Leo in a somewhat serious tone.

"Are you sure Leo? There is no coming back from this." responded the old man with worry in his voice.

"Gramps our family deserves better. I'm doing it."

Just like his father eh, the old man thought to himself as if reminiscing about someone who is no longer here.

"Let's head home, for now, Leo, if we show up any later that old woman won't let us hear the end of it"

"Haha your right, let's walk a little faster"

At the same time as both men were leaving the school premises, a conversation that would cause Leo to show a look of hate on his face was going on. In a certain study, located in a not so discreet mansion, a man in his forties, dressed in refined clothing was having tea while listening to a report from a subordinate.

"Sir, the one you instructed us to monitor finished his last day of school today and was met at the gate by the long-serving butler of their family, at which time the two shared a conversation, that of which we couldn't hear the contents of."

"Continue to observe him from a distance, you may leave," said the older man without even bothering to look up away from his tea.

The subordinate simply nodded before quickly leaving, seemingly used to this attitude from the man he just reported to.

Now by himself in his study, the man said a few words before going back to drinking his tea.

"Now I wonder if the little mongrel is nothing but a fool, just like his father was."

After finally making their way home, Leo and the old man were met with the disapproving voice of the only other person in the home. The second they walked into the small house whose size did not match the level of wealth that a prestigious 500-year family should have, she was waiting on them.

"So where have you two been?" asked the lady whose age is higher than the old man who came in with Leo, though she'll never hear that from her.

"Any later and the food would be cold." continued the old woman.

"That's why we rushed home as fast as we could grandma Mags, but you know gramps here can't walk that fast" laughed Leo

"I'm surprised his old bones didn't break on the way home" responded grandma Mags, which brought on a couple of laughs from Leo and some grumbling from gramps.

"Alright alright, that's enough picking on me, Leo go wash up and then we'll eat, we have a lot to discuss Maggie."

And with that the group of 3 which included two elderly and a youth not even half their age eventually sat down to have dinner in the capital city of Grayleon for what just may be the last time they did so.
