We finally arrived at my school. Elite Academy 1. You might think that this is a top tiered school based on the name, but that's where you're wrong. The reason for the 1 in the name is because this was the first of it's kind and the 'Elite' in the name indicates the people that go here. I am an Elite. However, I am a different case than others. They all have necklaces or bracelets as the way to call their Over Gears, but mine are just chips that are implanted in my arms. I even heard that my Over Gear is a prototype. I was given the name Null by Mr. Aide, the one who gave and implanted my Over Gear.
I walked out of the bus and straight towards the giant silver gate.
"This feels weird..."
The gates gave off a weird vibe to me, but then after getting inside I noticed why. There were crystals attached at the back of the gates. Two crystals, one for each. These crystals are called Anti-ability stones. These crystals cancel out the abilities that reach within its radius. So for example, if someone was running using an ability and they were near this crystal, their ability would get cancelled out and they will just run like a normal person.
"Wait, there's no time to be fascinated by that. I'm going to be late!"
I quickly dashed to the set of stairs leading to the large arena at the middle of the school.
While running to the stairs, I noticed that a duel was taking place near the stairs.
I was a little concerned due to the fact that I could see some [Fireballs] coming out of the circle of people. They didn't even mind getting burnt…
I continued on walking up the stairs while looking at the duel until someone called out from in front of me.
"Look out!"
"Argh!"
A girl fell down on me. I felt a pleasant sensation land on my chest. However, the same couldn't be said for the back of my head. I summoned my gauntlets once more and covered the back of my head to avoid injury. Of course, I also covered the girl's head.
We rolled down the stairs and when we finally hit ground.
"Are you okay?"
"A-ah, yes. I'm okay…"
I was relieved that she was okay. I stood up and I also helped her stand up. She had long black hair and blue eyes. Her skin was as white as porcelain. If I wasn't worried about being late I would've been captivated by her beauty. After helping her get up I waved her goodbye.
"Well, I'm glad you're okay. Sorry, but I gotta go. See you later!"
"Ah… Y-yes."
I ran up the stairs, being more careful this time. When I arrived at the entrance of the large arena. There were a lot of people. I was a bit weirded out on how this atmosphere felt more different than the one outside. Outside it felt like it was carefree while here it feels like it's more dense and more serious.
'I can't let my guard down in this school at all.'
One of my abilities, [Sense], lets me see and feel how powerful someone is. I used it right now because I was curious why the atmosphere felt dense, but I wasn't expecting this. About 80% of the people here are average in terms of power, but the remaining 20% is just… scary. I almost couldn't breathe when I activated my [Sense] ability. I quickly deactivated my ability and decided to take a seat at the very top where the people have the same level of power as me.
Once I was seated I felt a bit more relaxed. Probably because I wasn't seated next to someone that can kill me in a single hit. I looked around me. I was curious why the entrance ceremony hadn't started yet.
'I even ran here…' I sighed and thought to myself.
I took my phone out of my pocket and looked through my contacts. Might as well report the portal incident earlier to Mr. Aide.
"Heyo Ayato, what is it?"
"Hey Mr. Aide, I want to report that on my way to school, I came across a portal."
"A what?!" That hurt my ears.
"A portal opened earlier. I didn't see the beast fully but… it may be a B-Rank beast."
"A B-Rank?!" OW!
I talked to him while distancing my ear from the phone. After my report I told him that the entrance ceremony seems to be getting delayed. He said that some of the teachers were called for an emergency.
'Seriously? What emergency would need S-Rank Elites?'
"Well, that's all I have for now."
"I see, very well then."
I decided to end our call here. Why? Because the ceremony is about to start.
