Colored tears streaked his face again as his teeth clenched in remembrance of the scene. You instinctively placed your head onto his shoulder to comfort him. "Trolls attacked you?"
Kankri nodded and sniffled a bit before continuing, "Yes. Father had stepped between us before he constructed any more damage to me. It seemed as if father and the high blood knew each other. They were shouting, but no one attacked, seemingly having some unsolved problems between the two. Psyonic came and broke the feud up before things got more complicated, but we had to stay inside the protection of the church all night."
"Oh." Was all you could say. So that's why Kankri didn't text you back, he was too busy dealing with protesters and a violent outburst that hurt him. You felt horrible for complaining to him so rudely, especially after he had to face an angry mob. Jumping into conclusions and deciding to spend the night at your moirail's house-what an idiotic and selfish thing to do. You could have stopped anything from happening to him, hell even beating the shit out of that no good high blood scum.
Why did you have to be so much like your father? Fiery and inextinguishable, both of your emotions swirling around in you and fighting back with self hatred. Your father passionate about change in the world and you, battling the demons and violence that has yet to come with it. This all an intense game of russian roulette and we're just about to reach the part of spinning the silver barrel. All you really know how to express is fear, sadness, and anger, that's all you know and all that you will know for the rest of your putrid slave existence. Your father wants better for both of his sons, and you know how stressful it is to fight for the whole low blood existence. Everyone depends on him, except the one's who's lives are paradise and don't want that to change.
'Fucking hemophobics.' You thought to yourself, but just realizing that your brother was in the middle of jabbering through a rant that you empty mindedly ignored.
"-so ignorant other beings are, and for what? To be irrationally violent to complete strangers let alone acquaints? What on alternia has this demented and segregated world came to? Fathers preachings are kind and speak of a free world, an equal one for everyone, including the humans, but every idealistic change triggers an uproar instead of indulging what is positive results for the majority." He paused a moment before glancing at you from the side, giving a small and exasperated sigh. "Karkat, may I inquire you to never travel alone like what you have done. You could have gotten hurt, culled even. These are chaotic times, and must I warn it will only get worse as the weeks progress. I would never forgive myself if anythi- "
"Whoa, wait a second." You piped, taking a stance in front of Kankri before he could fly past the subject. "You said something about getting worse. What the hell are you and dad doing to piss off the chumbuckets? I thought it was just his sermons!"
Kankri's mouth gaped open for a few seconds like he was about to say something, but closed it momentarily as he stood himself up and slid his hands into the pockets of his worn tunic. "It seems rather he hasn't informed you yet, so I cannot speak of such things without his consent. All you need to know for now, my young brother, is that he has a vision for the future; for us. But ungrudgingly I must end this conversation until further notice, a few things are needed to be done before the sermon still."
Your brows knit together, giving a glare at your incoherent brother, "Even after what happened last night, you're going back to the chapel?"
"Yes." He answered clearly with no hesitation, "Though the event was a minor setback for my physical and emotional statue, I am most confident to return and finish the work that I have started. Now if you excuse me, I must part from you. Do not leave this house, I will see you tonight."
With the last sentence, Kankri spun on the soles of his boots towards the direction of the Vantas churchyard, leaving you in a pool of your own unanswered questions. You exhale briefly before heading into the hive for some grub. Leaving your mind on all the possibilities with what your troublesome pain in the ass of a father is planning to do, isn't quite healthy. Why hasn't he told you yet? Anger was swelling inside of you again, but more vigorously pointed to your ignorant bloodline. It was not fair for them to block you out of something seemingly important, unless it was a belated wriggler-day gift, which you're extremely positive it wasn't.
"Stupid." You muttered aloud to the empty hive, your steps echoing against the wooden planks as you traveled into the kitchen. Hunger was at the bridge of your mind, just before the utter chaos that you would love to release on your father. Your hands flicked through the fridge and cabinets before finding some stale bread and a jar of grub sauce. The green liquid wiggled in its place as you struggled but successfully opened the nutrition tin, stabbing the jello-like substance with a knife and spreading an abundance across the breads' surface.
'If only I could do that to the highbloods...' You cackled to yourself as the thought crossed your mind. 'If only.'
You make your way into your bedroom after placing everything back to where it came from. The grub sauce sandwich made itself into your mouth with a satisfying mush, taking in the flavor of your ancestors. You can't believe they ate this, everyone did and there wasn't a single human to worry about. Too bad those days were centuries ago.
A vibration from your pocket almost made you choke in surprise. Coughing a bit, you retrieved the device to see that Kanaya had contacted you on your pester handle. With the delicious grub in one hand and your phone in the other, you took a seat on your mattress and read the message contently.
