Evan stared at the freshmen building, readying himself for the first day. Cole was right beside him, chattering on about the latest gossip from his dorm building. It made his nerves take a literal nosedive.
"Ready for today, my dear friend?~" Cole whispered into Evan's ear, getting a bit too close for comfort. "I mean, I guess I am. I'm just going to go in and draw less attention to myself.." Evan uttered, his ears going down a bit.
Cole flicked his fox ears, making Evan growl at him. "OI! Do. NOT. TOUCH." He tried to slap Cole's hand away, but kept missing. Cole clearly found this funny as he began to laugh, small tears fleeing from his eyes. Evan huffed a bit, before walking into the building. He was in class 1-3, while Cole was in 1-5. The classes did not necessarily correspond to how well you did grade-wise, those only mattered when getting into the magic classes themselves. He was in both the support and attack magic classes as his could be used for both. Cole was just in the fire attack classes.
The two walked to their classes, separating once they reached 1-3. With a promise to meet up for lunch, Evan walked into the class and noticed how people stared at him. A bit flustered from the unwanted attention, Evan quickly scooted over to his seat, which was in the very back of the classroom. He was extremely grateful for that.
No one really approached him and he could see that he'd have trouble making friends. Many of his peers looked at him in awe and envy, which was frankly annoying as he couldn't control what magic he got. He grumbled before placing his head down on the desk, covering his face with his arms. He wanted to doze off for a bit, noticing that class wouldn't start for another 15 minutes.
He did exactly that. Evan had no dreams but the quick nap made him feel more refreshed and less nervous. The bell rung harshly throughout the academy, alerting students that they'd better be in class by now or else.
All the students within 1-3 rushed to their assigned seats and sat down, acting as if they'd be there the entire time. Slowly, the door opened up to the classroom and in walked the teacher, rendering gasps from the students. Evan was unaware of the ordeal, as he was still fast asleep.
The student who sat next to Evan harshly nudged him, causing him to wake right back up confused. He blinked a few times to get his vision back in order and stared up at the podium, eyes widening in shock. Standing right there was Noya Holland and the guy had a smirk aimed right at him. He wanted to cry, why is someone of royal blood in the academy?!? He knew the guy was a graduate and did mention he'd see him soon but....this is TOO soon.
Still a bit shell-shocked, he watches as the teacher begins his introductions. "Hello class! My name is Noya Holland but you can refer to me as Mr.Holland. I am a first class fire magician and a graduate of this institute. I was offered a job here due to my success per say and the fact that I am a great wielder of fire magic. I will be your teacher for a majority of your classes and possibly your magic instructor, if you have an affinity to fire." He dumps onto the class, giving everyone a few seconds to process what he'd just said.
"Now, I am not the strictest instructor but I am also not a push-over. Do your assignments on time and don't dick around because this academy doesn't take your bullshit kindly. I am sure many of you may recognize my last name, but I would rather you all disregard it. In this institute, I am an instructor, not a royal. Now, any questions?" He finishes off his speech of sorts, watching as students raise their hands up high, burning with questions.
Mr.Holland picks on a petite redhead who seems as though she'll die if her question isn't answered. "So, how exactly do you fit into the royal family tree?" She asks, not really noticing how invasive the question can seem. Evan just watches as Mr.Holland tenses up a bit, saying that he cannot disclose that information.
From there on, more questions are asked, ranging from his likes/dislikes, to why he chose to take up the teaching position, and how he was able to become a first class magician. Many of the questions are innocent in nature, aside from a select few that are a bit.. disgusting per say, such as whether he is a bastard child. Mr.Holland takes them all in stride, simply refusing to answer some of the questions.
Homeroom passes by quickly and so do the other classes, including English, Mathematics, World History, and a few other more obscure courses. Evan would have never believed he'd be taking a course on weaponry at a school primarily based on magic, but there were students who had no affinity and relied on weapons. Mr.Holland was not the teacher for all the classes, instead other teachers would pop in and out to introduce themselves and their subject. The first half of the school day was dedicated to mostly regular academics depending on the block scheduling, where 1 class would drop down each day. The second half was where the fun started.
Magic classes would begin in the second half and Evan was extremely excited. He wasn't able to find much information on blessing magic, so he hoped to find answers then. For now however, he was on his way to lunch as he promised to meet up with Cole.
He found him in the far corner of the large cafeteria, filled with beautiful flowers all around. Magic was evident everywhere and it made Evan giddy, wanting to learn about it all. Cole was evidently not sitting alone, which made Evan's stomach curl a bit.
There, on the opposite side of Cole, sat the tall guy who ignored him twice. Evan wasn't sure how to feel about this and decided to cautiously make his way over, noticing the joy on Cole's face. "Evan, pal, buddy, let me introduce you to Osser Nam, he's a merman with both water magic and charm magic. Osser, this is my favorite friend, Evan Renelli!" Cole joyfully introduces them to one another, not noticing the subtle tension between the two.
Evan puts his hand out, waiting for Osser to hopefully shake it, which luckily he does. He's not sure why the guy ignored him previously but chooses to not dwell on it as he doesn't want his excitement about magic classes being dampened by some guy. The two make very, very small talk. It was pretty much limited to some 'hellos' and 'how are you'. Cole seemed a bit put off by that but didn't mention it.
Evan quickly went to grab his lunch from the cafeteria line, which was basically a sandwich and some chips, along with a bottle of water..sorta. Most foods didn't taste the same as they did on Earth but still tasted fine to him. He walked back to the table where Cole and Osser sat and began eating, his thoughts drifting towards the magic classes.
Oh, he hoped everything went alright..he really did not want to draw any more attention to himself.
Once again, Evan learned that day that he needs to stop jinxing himself.
