Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: First Day of Classes pt.2

Evan quickly searched for the support magic classroom, still not used to the large freshmen building. It took him another 5 minutes before he found himself standing in front of the classroom, giddiness evident on his face. He still had no idea what being a blessing magician meant, so hopefully he'd get those answers here.

Opening the door to the classroom, he noticed that there weren't that many students at all. A regular magic classroom held at least 200 students per type but the support magic classroom only had 75 students. He chalked it up to the fact that maybe support type magic was rare to come by. Finding his desk, he noticed he sat next to a fairly tall girl with short forest green hair and lavender eyes. She had a tiny beauty mark next to her left eye and a small amount of freckles dotting her face. Currently, the girl was reading a book,

"Hi, name's Evan Renelli." He introduces himself to her, hoping to maybe get another friend out of it. Evan isn't lonely but he can admit that Cole is the only one he is friends with. He refuses to include Osser in that list.

The girl slowly turns her head to face him, a bored expression marring her features. "Oh, I know. I think everyone knows who you are. Call me Yan, but don't speak to me outside this classroom." Yan finishes, before turning her head back towards her book. A bit confused and put off, Evan just keeps to himself. Are they friends? Or just acquaintances during the single class they are now in together?

Evan realizes that he seems to have bad luck in choosing who to befriend. He inwardly groans, wondering if he should just wait for friendship to happen 'naturally'.

While consumed by his thoughts, Evan almost doesn't notice the teacher coming into the class. The teacher is interesting, if he needed a word to accurately describe her. She was short, real short. Maybe 4'11" and had long blonde hair. Her eyes were fairly white and if someone didn't know any better, they would think she's a child. The most interesting aspect about the teacher is that on top of her head was a nest filled with baby birds.

Snickers could be heard across the classroom, with many wondering if this child was really their teacher. This clearly irked her greatly as her hands began glowing and every single student in the classroom was silenced, unable to speak. "Now, my name is unimportant, simply refer to me as Miss Y. I'll be your support magic teacher and let me tell you something, I do not appreciate comments regarding my looks whatsoever. If I hear it again, you'll get detention." She reprimanded those who offended her before moving onto more important topics. "Many of you in this course are either light magicians, charm magicians, or a smaller subset that would place you into support. I am part of a smaller subset, known as Lullaby. It's fairly self explanatory but through sheer determination and hard work, I can use it silently. It allows me to not only put those to sleep, but I can also serenade animals and silence people. It may sound weak, but this school isn't to show off how powerful you can be. No, this is basically a college and your magic is your degree, it will help you find the right job." She finished off, before releasing the spell that silenced everyone.

Not a single person spoke, a bit intimidated by the teacher. Evan understood because she was powerful despite her size.

Miss Y glared at her new students before explaining how the course would work. "Not everyone has the same skillset despite having the same magical affinity, so in this class, you will be taught individually at times or work on your own in a self-study type of environment. Some of you will have more time with me than others due to the rarity and lack thereof the magic you own. For example, our blessing magician in the back. It's unfortunate but our course only has myself as the teacher for the freshmen. I will make sure to work with every single student at least 3 times." Her words, while they made sense, angered some of the students. No one spoke out, but Evan felt far more glares than necessary.

"Lets start with our first lesson. Inside of your desks lay a piece of paper with a spell tailored towards your magical affinity. I will go around and you will perform the spell for me. Don't worry if nothing happens, as that is normal. Your nodes were just opened, there hasn't been enough time for them to develop to the level necessary to have the spell work. The only reason i'm doing this is to figure out who has larger nodes as certain spells need to be changed to fit the output of those spells." Miss Y went around, giving each student an intense stare as they attempted to activate their spell. Some succeeded, while most did not.

When it was Yan's turn, she seemed a bit bored and quickly activated the spell, surprising Miss Y. "I'll find you some more advanced spells, you were on my list for extra lessons already anyways." She stated, all without saying exactly what affinity Yan had.

Then, it was Evan's turn. He stared at the spell before him, a bit flustered that he needed to recite the entire sentence. He was about to say something but swallowed whatever thought he had as he noticed the teacher's irritated expression. "Well? We don't have all day." Miss Y glared at him, wanting Evan to hurry up.

He cleared his throat before reciting the words,

"Blessed Be, for thee will now be free". Once the words were spoken, a large white light spread across the classroom. Each student was blessed with a buff of sorts, not that anyone knew that.

Miss Y grinned manically, "Oh, i'm gonna have fun with you!" She was about to continue on when the bell rang, causing the students to leave. Many of them took small glances at Evan before whispering to their friends and all Evan could do was groan. He kept attracting unnecessary attention to himself.

He was about to get up when Miss Y stopped him. "Renelli, stay behind. You've got your first private lesson today. That prophecy isn't going to fulfill itself!" It was at this moment that Evan realized his academy life was going to be nothing but trouble.

The look of pure sadistic excitement that appeared on Miss Y's face terrified Evan more than he'd like to admit. As the last student left the room, the doors locked shut and all Evan could do was internally cry.
