Laquetta put her head down on the cool tabletop, splaying herself across the table. She was feeling extremely tired, it was only third period and her tranquil high school life-plan was already tossed out the window. Laquetta lifted her head and scowled at the people who were not being subtle in talking about her, she scoffed when they recoiled away from her glare.
"Do you want to be partners?" came a sweet voice from behind Laquetta.
Laquetta turned around and asked, "What?"
"We were supposed to partner up to create a ringtone on the computers," the girl explained.
Laquetta signed her head and stood up, taking her backpack with her, and sauntered over to the free desktop. She looked to her left, the girl seemed remarkably shy around her.
"Uh-uh! D-do I have something on my face?"
"Hah?" Laquetta pulled a face, "No, I was just admiring your perfect skin."
Laquetta groaned out loud when she saw the poor girl blush, 'Why am I so flirty? Well, she is pretty- Oh shoot! I don't even know her name!'
"By the way, I don't seem to know your name? My name is Laquetta, nice to formally meet you."
"My-my name is Lucy..." Lucy trailed off, then after a pause spoke up again, "Why did you agree?"
Laquetta raised an eyebrow whilst logging into the computer, clicking open the music sheet that was sent from the teacher, "What do you mean?"
"I-I mean, I didn't think you would agree... I thought y-you would want to work with one of the popular people," Lucy motioned to the corner where a gaggle of girls that were sitting and not doing work, chewing gum, talking about other people. They seemed to be having an intense conversation.
"You have more personality than all of them combined. Although, they're pretty... Pretty boring," Laquetta observed Lucy out of the corner of her eye, taking in the badly cloaked smugness on Lucy's face. Laquetta smirked to herself, focused on tuning the different layers on the computer, and did not mention it.
"So, you like me more than any of them? You find me more preferable?"
"Yes, yes I do."
"Can we be friends?" Lucy asked in a submissive manner.
"I thought we already were," said Laquetta with a chuckle.
Lucy blushed, "O-oh I d-didn't mean to-"
"Chill, I was kidding," Laquetta chuckled.
Lucy beamed at Laquetta who let out a grin of her own.
They turned back to the screen and started adding and tuning their little project and exchanged ideas from neighbouring groups around them and making new friends in the process. The music class progressed quickly and soon they were all heading out into the changing rooms to get changed into their PE kit.
Groaning, Laquetta tried to suppress the wretched memories bench ball had brought her in her middle school years. She had split the bone in her toe when she was playing, she didn't know there was anything amiss with it at the time and it wasn't until a few days later her toe had turned into a ripe grape with yellow on the surrounding skin. Laquetta was so busy grieving about the fact that they were going to play dodgeball, that she didn't notice someone eying her figure, which was toned from years of intensive tennis practice.
Laquetta sighed and tied up her hair, which fell into a long, straight ponytail reaching to her butt. She walked out and Lucy followed right after her, scowling at some of the boys who gave Laquetta's figure some appreciative looks as she walked into the Sports Hall.
Lucy patted herself down and jogged next to Laquetta who was warming up and stretching.
"Hey! It seems that we are in the same PE class!"
Laquetta rolled her eyes with a smile at her small, enthusiastic friend, "It's a mixed group today. I do not have the effort to do anything."
"Wanna go to the library afterwards? I'll suggest some good manga and some anime?"
"Sure!"
The two talked for a bit before heading over to their group and sitting before the teacher; the teacher explained that they were playing bench ball. Laquetta sighed, as they got into teams. There were five people per team and one play stood on the opposite benches, whilst they waited for the teacher they talked amongst themselves.
The PE teacher, Mrs Arden came over, "Ready?"
Before she launched the ball high into the air and the others scrambled to take possession of the ball, Laquetta lowered her knees and got ready to bat the ball away to stop the person on the bench behind her from getting it.
The teams switched and they played different teams, and before they knew it they back on the floor and waiting for Mrs Arden to announce the scores.
"So in first place, we have... Team 3!"
A round of applause.
"In second place we have... Team 4!"
Clapping ensues. Laquetta smiled and looked at the ground.
"In third place, we have Team 2 and then Team 1."
Everyone cheered and laughed before they all walked away and into the changing rooms to get changed again.
Laquetta was one of the first few who was done changing and sat gently onto the bench and waited for Lucy.
"Should we go get food first?" asked Lucy.
"Yeah, I am extremely hungry. What will you be getting?"
"I don't know, I want to see what they offer first."
Lucy fixed her tie and the two walked briskly towards the canteen and waited in the already long queue, where they saw some of their other friends. Laquetta started talking to Charlotte about anime and the latest news about horror movies and the lore behind some of them. Whilst Lucy was talking about skincare routines with Mia, and different products to use as well as anime and complaining about how shipping takes so long.
Soon enough they were at the front and choosing what they liked before heading down to pay, Laquetta chose a sausage roll and Lucy chose a pasta.
Lucy waited for Laquetta at the front and then they headed up to the library after they finished eating.
