Chapter 54 - The Journal (2)

Alyssa continued to read the entries when Mufar took the journal from her hands.

"That's enough for now, it's already lunch so it's better to eat first and we'll continue this later," Mufar instructed as they all wait for the ladies to finish preparing their lunch.

After half an hour, they all ate together in silence as some of them contemplated their actions when Luis just came from his mission to Armeton.

An hour passed and the silence was broken when the journal made another thud sound on the table in front of Alyssa. The lady continued to read the contents of the book which doesn't have the light veil.

'Day 193

Leaves are starting to fall now and the autumn breeze blows away the orange and red leaves on the ground. Quite the view to watch actually, and it's so beautiful and pleasant to the eyes.

Grandpa Dave and I went inside the forest to get the herbs that only mature during this season. We fought beasts along the way as we look for herbs. We gathered a lot of herbs while the people kept their crops inside the silos to prepare for the incoming winter.

Me and Grandpa Dave decided to help them since we don't have patients nor customers today. We harvest a lot of crops and I never knew how fun this was except, it was tiring when you really gave your all to it.

That's what I thought too but later this day, a child is asking for cough medicine, we gave the medicine to the kid but we didn't know that he was used by the bandits. I fended hard just to defend our house, luckily, I successfully captured some but most of them escaped inside the forest.'

"I want to experience fighting those bandits too!" Achilleas spoke.

"Then live in a town far away from the city. That's their problem every autumn and winter. You can be a great help to them!" Mufar snickered as he saw that the man's expression changed when he mentioned living in a poor town.

"No thanks! I don't want to get s strange disease from them!" Achilleas immediately refused.

"But Luis survived living there before he went here?" Cyrius commented.

"What did you know about living in a town then?" Achilleas retorted.

"I know because... because... I was born on Glipton Town..." Cyrius looked down thinking that all of the ridicule is on him.

Glipton town is the town on the far eastern part of Riverside City where it was closest to the sea. The main source of their income is through fisheries.

"That's why you understood him the most Cyrius!" Ana exclaimed.

"I even claimed myself as his best friend when I can't even understand his place. What kind of a best friend am I?" Serion thought as he bowed his head lower to hide his shame which he only perceives.

"Continue young lady!" Mufar insisted as Alyssa continued reading the journal.

'Day 284

It's so cold right now, and the people are all gathering inside their houses warming themselves up. Me and Grandpa Dave were busy concocting medicines for the cold because people easily get sick during this season.

We tried to make as many as possible when those bandits tried to attack the village again just to steal the crops they stocked.

Grandpa Dave told me that last year, they attacked too and took a lot of the crops. I won't allow them now because the people worked hard for it.

Good thing I ambushed them like last time and caught a bunch of them. Some escaped but they won't be a threat for the town for a while.'

"So he's been fending bandits that's why he can battle professionally!" Archie exclaimed.

She read the other entries about Luis battling against the bandits and beasts during winter.

'Day 366

It's the first day of the third test. I broke the devices on the first and second tests and we just buried the wolf pup's mom and I adopted it because her mom was killed by those wolves.

She willing submitted to me and I plan to bring her out of this place as soon as I leave here.

She is the best thing that happened to me during these exams. I hope this continues until the end of the third day.'

The rest of the pages were concealed by the light veil until the latest page.

"Now you know most of Luis's story. It's better to show you everything that he did here on out!" Mufar exclaimed as the light screen behind him suddenly displayed moving images of Luis cleaning the living room back when he was still living inside the School of Medicine.

"That's the day after we established the Sky Chasers right?" Jay exclaimed.

"Yeah! Those are the foods we ate and the drinks we drank!" Archie confirmed.

"So, he tidied the place up while we are all asleep." A sad look emerged from Julianne's face as the guilt that she felt intensified.

The images changed and it is now showing Luis who was planning for the house renovation to add the training room and reading different books regarding their elements and energies and formulated the best combinations.

"I really thought that he asked a mentor to formulate those for him!" Alyssa exclaimed when she saw Luis planning those cooperative stances until the next morning.

Then the next images showed Luis looking through a bunch of papers and books regarding the Black Demon and the creatures of the Black Smog Forest and after scrolling through them, the scene changes into Luis concocting the pills and stitching the masks by ripping his old shirts apart.

"He ripped his clothes just to make those masks? And I even teased those masks in front of him!" Alyssa teared up when she saw those scenes in which she failed as a commander.

"I got this scene accidentally because I was near the vicinity so my connection through his mark is stronger!" Mufar explained as the images changed again.

This time, the images showed two people talking to each other, it was Luis and Vice Dean Theriud. Theriud placed three papers in front of Luis and the young man pondered for a moment before he selected one. Luis paid and went to the blacksmith to fetch their weapons.

"He didn't ask anyone of you to contribute for the expense of this headquarters?" Alyssa asked.

"Nope, all of it was his earning from selling pills to the Medicine Plaza. He paid the whole 5 million from his pockets." Mufar smiled as he felt his apprentice's generosity and selflessness even though he can only see it from an image.

"I really thank Grandpa Francis and Grandpa Dave for shaping this guy and allowing me to be his master," Mufar stated as he looked at the image of his apprentice with pride on his face.

All of them bowed their heads as they heard and saw everything that happened to the young man from before he entered the Divine Prophecy Academy until now.

Julianne and Alyssa teared up just thinking about the sacrifices Luis made to them.

"You want to know why he accepted that quest?" Mufar asked as the images changed.

It showed Luis skillfully drawing a map with six towns marked on it that flows along with the river.

"Wait, is that Elton River? Eristreas, Lugiar, Armeton, Liesu, Magnis, and Leflend! Everything makes sense now!" Alyssa exclaimed when she realized what is happening.

"What do you mean?" Jericho asked.

"She means that Luis accepted the quest in the hope to find some clues from the destruction of Eristreas," Jay answered.

Julianne cried intensely when she realized her fault as guilt ate her conscience.

"This is the thing that I can't take even me as his master is having a hard time watching this," Mufar spoke as the images changed again.

The images showed Luis sleeping while sitting inside the tent, he doesn't wear cloth for his top and only a sheet of fiber is covering his lower part and when he slowly fell to the ground, one of his blisters burst as he screamed in agony, he looked like he was in intense pain and this woke him up as he continued his study and didn't take a rest after that. The images changed again as Luis dipped himself inside the pond where he cured himself as the blisters simultaneously popped as he dipped his body inside the water.

"He... he... caught the disease plaguing those towns?" Ana uttered in shock as she watches Luis dipping inside the pond.

"Yes, and guess what? He's going to the Capital City not because he will claim his reward, but because he will report what he knows about the disease and beyond that. I'm sure that he won't use that reward for his selfish desire." Mufar smiled as he informed the team of what he found out about Luis's mission.

"Now, I will stay here until Luis came back from the Capital City to make sure that you won't do anything foolish!" Mufar informed them as he chanted a spell that covered the whole headquarters.

"I chanted a spell that can detect who will leave this place, if you want to leave, inform me first, I will be in Luis's room or the Alchemy Room if you need me." Mufar lastly informed as he walked out of the room and let the people inside contemplate for themselves.

"We will take our leave too, we need to finish Lady Ingrid's order for the affected town." Ana also excused as the four of them left and directly head towards the Alchemy Room.

"I guess we let that defeat eat ourselves as one of us is struggling to survive," Rex commented after the long silence.

"I even blamed him for a thing that he didn't even have anything to do with!" Julianne sobbed as she cried her tears out.

"We all know our mistakes now! Let's just be a better person like what he said to us before he left." Serion tried to cheer them up.

The moment they heard this, fire lit up from their eyes as their will burn and it encouraged every one of them to do their best.
