Chapter 7 - I Meet You Again

An entire week passed and I decided to train on my own. After losing my match to Yumeko, I thought to myself that Blake would be disappointed in me. Despite gaining a power of my own I found myself on a losing streak. I lost to Blake while I was still in the academy, I lost to Akira while I was training and most recently I lost to Yumeko. I fell to my knees and started punching the ground to release my frustration. "How could I ever carry on my mom's legacy if I keep losing." Tears dampened the ground as I was beginning to lose hope.

"Question. Why are you crying?" Akira jumped down from a tree. I wiped my tears and faced him. "It's just that I'm weak. I keep losing no matter how hard I try. I want to become the hero my mother wanted to be but right now there is no way I can do so." "You're right. Right now, there is no way you can do that. You're too weak and pathetic." Those words were harsh but true. "But you have lots of potential. You just need guidance to make that potential turn into talent. How about this?" he said before pulling out a bell. "If you can take this away from me, I'll train you but you have to keep this a secret."

I hesitated for a moment. "How could I possibly do that? He took me out with one blow last time." I thought to myself before coming to the conclusion that it was impossible. "Sorry sir but I just don't believe that I can take that bell away from you." A scowl appeared on his face after he dashed in front of me. "Your mom would never back down from a challenge." I paused for a while as I stared him down. "How do you know my mom?" "I'll tell you about her if you take this bell from me. Suddenly my focus was solely on that bell.

I started stretching while thinking of ways to get that bell from him. I concluded to use my psychic powers to increase my attributes and then rush him with a barrage of attacks at full speed. I did just so but he dodge each attack. He tried to knock me out just like last time but I evaded using my hypermotility. I fell back for a moment and began using a technique I recently came up with me. I compressed my psychic energy and shot it at Akira but again he dodged. I then held him still while advancing but he broke free and punched me in the stomach.

"You've gotten better at using your power but that won't be enough to get this bell from me. Your conviction isn't high enough!" It finally clicked for me. The only thing driving me was my goals and ambitions. I got up on my feet and then closed my eyes. I advanced once more but this time I relied fully on my power. I rushed him once more but this time I landed a blow to the hand holding the bells causing him to drop them. He then tried to keep me from them but I dodged each attack and tripped him over putting him into a headlock with one arm as I grabbed the bell with the other hand.

"Congrats! I knew you had it in you." I released the hold and we both rose to our feet. "Does this mean you're going to train me?" "I gave you my word didn't I but before I get to that I said I'll tell you about your mom. She was filled with ambitions just like you. You may look like your father but your personality matches your mother. I met her the first day I was assigned a squad. I was stuck in awe the moment I saw her in action. She was extremely talented and never backed down from a fight. She quickly rose through the ranks and at a young age she became one of the top twenty heroes along with your father."

It was good to hear nice things about mom. Dad didn't speak about her a lot since he was still in his state. "I was inspired by her and she taught me a huge lesson one day." *flashback* "Hey Akira why do you want to be a hero?" she asked in curiosity. "Well, it pays well and I guess it gets exciting sometimes." "So, you don't have a goal in mind?" "Nope." "That's too bad." "Why?" She looked at him the said, "If you don't have goals how are you supposed to reach your full potential? Dreams make you work harder so you can reach feats you never thought you could." *flashback ends*

"After you regained your conviction, you were able to take the bell from me. Here is a lesson that you should keep to heart. Whenever you fight give it your all no matter the level of the challenge or you will regret it. Anyways let's start your training." He began pushing me past my limits. Whether it was sit-ups, push-ups,  squats, or using my power to move heavy objects, I gave it my all. I was rendered stationary after the training as I was extremely tired. It took me a couple of minutes to be able to move properly again. He left me on my own giving me time to recover while he went back to his duty.

After making my way home, I lied down on my bed and slept until late afternoon the other day. I was a little late to my next training with Akira. My muscles were worn out but steadily I was building stamina so I didn't complain. I barely woke up in time for school the next day and almost dozed off during classes. Despite my fatigue, I still headed to the gym and field to train. By the time I trained with my dad I had gotten great results. I landed multiple hits on my father and was able to evade most of his blows. The next time I saw Akira I thanked him before training once more.

I was able to hold my own against most of my classmates and was appointed the fifth strongest student in the class. If it wasn't for Akira, I'd probably still be doubting myself. I refused to doubt myself anymore and gave it my all no matter what it was. When I trained with Emily, she was forced to use Gear two to keep up with me and I wasn't being overwhelmed by her speed like normal any longer. Emily and I were finally equals as I had learned how to handle my power even more and soon it would be out to the test against a tough opponent.
