The school term had soon met its end and to wrap up this term with a bang our teacher, Mr. Harrison, decided to access our growth by paring us up for battles. After losing to Yumeko I was planning to prove myself by winning this time. "For the first match, Emily and Kankuro will go toe to toe against each other. Let the battle begin!" I was excited as this will be a tough match. We trained with each other frequently so we know each other's strengths and weaknesses. I began thinking of ways to approach this fight but before I could get a thought in, Emily overwhelmed me with her speed and soon I was on the defensive.
She showed no openings so I was stuck using my hypermobility to dodge and block most of her hits but she managed to connect a few of her blows. I drew back trying to catch my breath but before long she went back on the offensive. This time I saw through her plan and countered each of her attacks causing her to take a tactical retreat. I had no intention of giving her time to think of strategies so I began blasting compressed psychic energy at her. She spent so much time dodging that she didn't realize I was closing in on her. I landed a solid punch leaving her groggy.
I followed up with a barrage of kicks then I punched her so hard she went flying. I resumed blasting at her causing her to obtain lots of damage. She slowly rose to her feet and began circling me. "Second gear!" She sped up and then proceeded to attack me. I was struggling to keep up despite my hypermobility. She landed some hits and then fired some light spheres in my direction at close range. As the fight went on the momentum shifted multiple times causing both of us to be tired and in excruciating pain.
We approached each other punching each other but there was no strength behind the punches. We both fell to our knees and ended up passing out. The great match ended in a draw. Despite us both wanting to win the match, we weren't frustrated at all. We both put our all into the fight and didn't mind losing to each other. "That match was amazing!" Shane shouted. "Yeah. They both are strong." Susan stated. "I guess it wasn't a total waste of my time watching it." Oda said. "I can't believe my sister would have trouble beating him. He really is improving." Blake thought to himself.
"That match kept us on our toes. Let's proceed with the matches." While Emily and I were rushed to the school's nurse the matches continued. Soon the last match would start and it was Oda against Blake. "I can't believe I get my chance to prove myself to you, Oda." "I have some faith that this won't be boring. Don't disappoint me okay." "Of course." The match began and Blake didn't hold back. "Overdrive!" He circled Oda while randomly attacking him. Oda countered each attack with ease but that didn't discourage Blake as he went back on the offensive.
He kept speeding up till he reached his peak speed. Oda now had to put in the effort to keep up with Blake. He found himself dodging each attack as they were too fast to counter. Suddenly Oda lost balance allowing Blake to land a hit on Oda. Oda was struck to the ground and Blake took advantage of this. Blake forced Oda to remain on the ground while not giving Oda a chance to counterattack. Blake soon got tired from continuously using Overdrive so he quit attacking and stopped using Overdrive. Oda stood up and a grin appeared on his face. "Congratulations Blake! You did well roughing me up there. Now I'm invested. Oda got in a fighting stance and Blake went back to using Overdrive. At his peak speed, he attacked Oda but not a single blow connected.
Oda instantly disappeared and then reappeared behind Blake as he attacked from behind. Despite Blake's current speed, he was defenseless and a crucial blow was connected. After that Oda relentlessly punched and kicked Blake till he fell to his feet. Oda kept kicking Blake while Blake was on the ground. "Come on, you can do better than this right? Where was, all of that, the momentum you had earlier." He kicked Blake after each kick. Blake began coughing up blood. "If that's all you have, I'm done." Oda began walking away but for some reason he got a feeling to look behind him.
As he turned around, he saw Blake standing on his feet. "I'm not done yet! Overdri…" As he powered up his body gave up and soon, he was unconscious on the ground. "You did well. I have respect for you but you're nowhere close to my level Blake. So, keep getting better to make me more excited to fight you." "That seems to be it. I can see that you all have improved. Good on you. Anyways class is dismissed. I'll take Blake to the school's nurse and the rest of you can enjoy your vacation. He headed to the nurse's office while both Emily and I were about to leave.
"Wait is that Blake you're holding Mr. Harrison?" I asked. "Yup. Oda did a number on him. Anyways, I like what u saw from both of you. Be sure to keep up the good work." He entered the nurse's office and began tending to Blake's wounds. "I'll stay behind and wait on my brother. You should head home and rest up." "Okay then, bye." After parting ways with her I headed home. My dad just came home from training and recognized my injuries. "So, who did you fight today?" I told him about how I had to fight Emily and how it ended in a draw.
"You're starting off roughly but you're not doing poorly. You just need to keep training and then you'll get some wins under your belt." "Ok, dad. Well, I'll get some rest. Later." I stood up all night wondering how to become stronger. I have so many people to surpass. Such as Emily, Blake, Oda, my father, Mr. Harrison, and Akira. Why do I keep failing? Will I ever become a top-tier hero? When will I begin winning? Those questions kept me up last night and as the morning drew near, I was extremely tired. I spent the first day of vacation in my bed doing nothing.
