Vacation had soon come to an end when my father challenged me to a battle. We were used to train with each other but we never fought each other so I was a bit nervous but also excited because I get to see my father in action. I push aside all my recent doubts temporarily and focused entirely on the fight at hand. He made the first move as he shot some fire in my direction but I easily dodged but my dad sped up and made his way behind me and knocked me to the floor. He then proceeded to lift me using his powers then slammed me into a nearby tree.
I swiftly recovered and then charged at him while increasing my stats using my powers. He evaded each attack then when he found an opening, he struck me straight in my stomach and followed up with a blow that pushed me back a bit. I had now seen why my dad is the number ten hero. He definitely seemed to be the second-strongest opponent I had ever faced second to none but Akira. He then shot some ice in my direction but I deflected them using my powers. I carefully analyzed the situation and looked for any openings but I couldn't find any.
He then punched the ground causing a tremor and knocking me off balance then proceeded to land a barrage of blows to my chest. I was groggy and barely standing on my own two feet but my determination to defeat my dad willed me to stay in the fight. I came up with a plan and went to carry it out. I rapidly fired blasts at him but he countered them with blasts of fire which I had figured he would do. I then gradually closed the gap between us and landed some crucial blows but it wasn't enough to end the fight.
I continued on the attack to prevent my father from recovering from his groggy state. From close range, I shot two blasts at him and then kicked him in the face. He landed on the ground then I put him in an armbar. He conceded and for the first time in a while, I had a real win despite my dad holding back a little. The doubts had been cleared and positivity took their place. I knew I'd lose if my dad used his true strength, I'd lose but I was one step closer to surpassing my dad and the thought of it made me so happy I almost screamed in pure bliss.
To my surprise, my dad's friend brought us some food. "Kentaro and young Kankuro I heard from my colleagues that you were training so I brought some muffins so you can get back your energy." "Thanks, Nana." All three of us sat down and ate. "Ms. Freeced these muffins are the bomb." "Thanks, but you don't need to be so formal. Call me Nana." "Ok nana. By the way, what's your power?" "Oh, my power allows me to harden my skin so I can decrease the damage I take." "Awesome. That must come in handy a lot during combat. "It does."
"Anyways I need to head back to headquarters but Kentaro can I talk t you for a bit." "Ok. Kankuro you can head home I'll meet you there." "I headed home but, on the way, I saw Oda escorted by some thugs into an alleyway. I knew Oda would be in some trouble so I went to lend a hand but when I arrived all of the thugs were lying on the floor unconscious. "Oh, you're one of my classmates. What are you doing here?" "I saw you being led here by some suspicious individuals so I came to help but I see now that you had it under control."
"Yeah, these weaklings were just normies so I had no trouble with disposing of them. Anyways I'll see you tomorrow in class. Also, before I leave, I saw you battling Emily. You impressed me so take these. They're weights to help you train. The school gave them to me to hand them out later but since you're here now it saved me some work. Press the button to add weight and the side button to lessen the weight. Anyways, I'll be leaving now. Keep the good work up." He took off and I made sure the thugs weren't too badly hurt.
Also, it dawned on me. The strongest of the students complimented me. My esteem was boosted once more and I was sure that I'd hear more compliments from him later. I headed home to see Emily waiting at the door knocking while looking for me. "What's up Emily?" I asked as I approached her. "I just came to ask if you wanted to hang out before school started tomorrow." "Well, I have to wait till my dad gets back home to see if he'll let me since it was a school night." "Go ahead and have fun kiddo." My dad said after he just came home.
Emily grabbed my hand as she pulled me with her as we both headed to the nearby park. "Isn't it nice to just relax after a whole school term of fighting and studying?" Emily inquired of me. "I guess so. I spent so much time getting stronger but never took the time to relax so it's good to just sit back and enjoy the scenery." "I have something to ask you Kankuro." "What is it, Emily?" "Have you ever had sights set on someone?" "What do you mean?" "I mean through the academy and now university have you had feelings for anyone?"
"Nope. I guess I was too focused on keeping up with everyone that I didn't have time to do normal teenage things. What about you?" "Well, I guess there's this special someone I have that's close to me but I can't tell him that I like him." "Why not?" "He's too good for me but I would be blessed to be his girlfriend." "Well, you should go for it. You're strong, independent, smart, and pretty." She blushed as she heard the compliments. "Well, I guess I'll shoot my shot but now isn't the right time. I don't want to get in his way." "Understandable." We spent the rest of our time together until the moon had risen. I couldn't stop wondering who she meant though but I knew for sure that it couldn't be me.
