Abby
Day 0, 10:35
Through out all the chaos I continued to stare at the boy that had presumably saved my life.
The question that continued to pop into my head was why?
Why had he done it even though I'm was a complete stranger?
I mean he doesn't even know me, like my family didn't even show that level of kindness. I looked away from him as his gaze locked on my mine. A sudden burst of warmth spread through my body as we made brief eye contact.
Then a flare of anger at myself followed soon after.
Am i already developing feelings for this guy? I barely even know him!
I sat there grumbling to myself until finally he said something.
"You ok?" I look over to see that he had a pretty convincing look of concern on his face.
"Ya," I replied without looking up from my phone.
"Sooo.... how come you weren't at school?" he began fiddling with his coat zipper not looking at me in the eye.
"Cuz my school is all the way in Castle Rock."
"And you live over here?"
"No."
"Then why are you all the way in-"
"I ran away ok!" I said it trying to dismiss the conversation entirely. He put his hands up in surrender.
"Hey no need to get mad I was just wondering why you were out there."
I looked him with a defensive look in my eye.
"Who said that, that was something you needed to know?" he looked away with a bit of shame on his face. He decided to pull out his phone trying to seem busy.
I looked around at the classroom. The students were acting nuts. Many kept trying to open the doors even though they knew it was locked. Some guys were having a shouting match. Lots of girls were crying. I even saw a kid in the corner rocking back and forth muttering to himself.
They continued to get more and more rambunctious. Out of no where a guy grabbed a chair and threw it at the window. But since most schools have strengthened windows it proceeded to bounce off and hit him in the face.
Isaiah slammed his phone on the table and got on top of it.
"HEY!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. "Everyone needs to calm the fuck down! There is no need to like goddamn animals. Also, Gabe, did you really think that would work? If it did you would have killed us all." He looked back at the crowd.
"Even though the adults don't have a set plan doesn't mean that they wont come up with one eventually." I looked around at the crowd of faces.
Many were sad, some were angry, even a couple showed a sign of hope. The more they looked in our direction the more they seemed to notice me.
"So please stop acting like its the Lord of-" he got cut off by a tall lightskin that had a slight lisp.
"Who the hell is she?" he pointed at me causing the whole crowd to look in my direction. I tried to make myself smaller but it didn't work.
Isaiah pinched the bridge of his nose.
"She's a shadow *(A/N a shadow is something that we have at my school that lets students from other schools come and 'shadow' a student to see what our school is like)* i picked up in the hall, her names Abby. Her being here is not important. What's important is that we don't act like savages thinking that all hope is lost. I were you i would see if you can get in contact with anyone outside of the school." he got down from the table and sat in his seat.
I could tell from his face that he was just said that whole speech just to keep up the moral.
"What?" he looked at me with color in his cheeks.
"Why did you do that?"
"I just wanted to make sure that i didn't have a chair get thrown at me if they started to go more ape-shit then they already are." I nodded in understanding. To be honest i didn't know why i was acting more like them.
Maybe its the fact that i dont care if i live or die? Who knows.
I was gonna ask another question when the guy with the lisp came up.
"Taylin this is Abby, Abby this is Taylin." I waved to him and he smiled back. He sat down next to Isaiah and they began to talk.
"So do you really think that the teachers are gonna come up with a solid plan?" I was gonna ask the same thing so i put my phone down and listened.
"No not really," replied Isaiah. "if they can't get a handle on the drug trafficking's here at the school there is no way that they'll get a handle on something like this."
Taylin took a deep breath.
"This all seems like some kind of dream. Its like the end of the world."
Isaiah laughed.
"Thanks for that depressing thought there bud! Of course this is like the end of the world, nothing like this has ever happened in history." Before i could stop myself i butted in to the conversation.
"How can you be so serious one second and then so up beat and laid back the next?"
He looked at me blushing slightly.
"I don't know, its kinda like being bipolar but with only good attributes." he gave me one of those heart warming smiles that made me want to melt into a puddle of liquid Abby.
Without even realizing it i stared back at him with a dreamy look in my eyes. The color in his cheeks deepened.
Taylins face darkened as he stared into space.
"So lets say - and this is worse case scenario - but what if the adults don't come up with a plan like there is a solid eleven hundred kids in this school and only like a hundred adults. There's bound to anarchy at some point."
Before anyone could respond a girl from the class yelled out.
"Hey everyone! My friend from East said that she's outside in the fog and she's fine!" Everyone crowded around her.
Taylin got up also.
I looked at Isaiah for some kind of reassurance but all i got was confusion in return.
"That doesn't make sense." he looked at me in the eye. "On the news we saw the reporter. Get hurt from the fog. So why is it not hurting her friend?"
With the worst timing ever the teacher opened the door. Every student got up and rushed the door causing the teacher to fall over and get crushed by the stampede.
Isaiah finally got up and followed the crowd. I didn't know what else to do so i got up and followed him.
It had seemed that all the teachers had just got back to there rooms because all almost every student was out of the rooms and running around the halls. There was no order, only chaos.
Pure. Chaos.
Students were running around in panic. Teachers were getting trampled.
It seems like that anarchy appeared a lot sooner then Taylin thought.
The class that we were in seem to try to push through the crowd to get down the stairs outside. Many other students saw this and surprisingly were joining the crowd.
It seemed in their panicked minds they thought 'oh ya they know what their doing lets follow them'.
Dumb asses.
Tons of students were shoving there way down the stairs causing many to be lost under foot.
I kept to Isaiah's side keeping a grip on his sleeve. He stopped in front of the window on the second floor that over looked the side exit of the building.
A steady stream of students were filing out of the building.
As soon as the students walked outside many started to cough. The coughs were so brutal that they fell to the ground spasming. Strange black foam rose from their mouths.
As soon as the other students saw this many rushed back inside. But a few sat back to see if they could help the others. Many wouldn't move but some actually seemed to get up. I looked at Isaiah.
"See maybe that reporter was fine." Isaiah's face never looked away as his face changed from relief to horror in a matter of seconds. I looked out to see something that chilled me to my core.
A small girl seemed to have been trying to help some one when they lunged at her sinking his teeth in her throat with a vise like grip. He proceeded to tear her throat out with a dog like manner.
Seeing this all the remaining kids that were trying to help the fallen ran for the door.
All of them. Except one.
The student seemed to be paralyzed in fear as he stared at the guy that had torn out the girls throat. In his now blood soaked shirt the guy got up and stumbled towards the student with very little grace.
"No," i hear Isaiah say beside me. "Not Sam..."
I couldn't look away as four of the fallen students got up and followed Bloody Shirt.
With my eyes glued to the scene i heard Isaiah tear open his bag and pull out something from it. I finally looked up to see a wicked spiked bat in his hands.
Before i could protest he ran down the packed stairs and out the door. I went back to the window and watched as Isaiah ran up and home run swung Bloody Shirt's face with enough force to literally knock him off his feet.
Isaiah turned to Sam and yelled. Needing this to get back to his senses, Sam finally got up and ran for the door.
Isaiah continued to fend of his attackers. First sending the next one to the ground with a smash to the jaw and another down for good with a hit to the temple.
My feet took me down the stairs through the packed bodies watching the show from the windows of the stair well before my mind knew it. I hit the door hard causing it to fly open.
"Come on, quick!" I yelled to Isaiah. He jumped over bodies and through the door way. I closed it with a slam.
"Don't. Ever. Do. That. Again!" each word i punctated with a smack to Isaiah's chest. I looked away with color on my cheeks.
My head swung back at the sound of a thump at the door.
I could see Broken Jaw and the Unharmed one rubbing their filth all over the windows causing my stomach clench in disgust. They pushed and pushed themselves on the glass, the fog around them getting darker and darker.
"The hell?" I said to know one in particular.
It looked as if the fog was solidifying and condensing as if it was the one pushing the figures.
"Oh fuck..." is all i say as the windows implode and the fog rolled in.
A/N: sorry for the delay!
