Isaiah
Day 0,10:20
I looked at the new girl with curiosity.
She was my exact type. With her autumn brown hair and ice blue eyes, and even though she was wearing baggy clothes i could tell she had a curvy figure. I felt like I was staring so I looked away quickly.
"How do you know that, that fog is bad?" she asked in a small voice. Just from that I knew that she was shy.
"Well," I started up the flight of stairs. I wanted to get her in a classroom as soon as possible just in case a teacher started to ask questions. "After that mini-earthquake thingy my class turned on the news to see what had happened. Anyways it turns out that fog came from spires-"
"Spires?" she butted in as we made down the hall.
"Ya, that fog seemed to have come these spikes that pushed out of the ground, my guess is that those are what caused the earthquake, anyways that fog rushed the reporter like it was alive and hit her like it was solid." I looked back to see her face masked with confusion and fear.
She didn't speak an understanding, or even make a noise, she just continued to think on it.
We came to the door of my Chemistry classroom, I put my hand on the handle.
"I'll explain you the best I can. I guess my teacher won't kick you out but who knows." I shrugged and opened the door.
The classroom was in chaos. Kids were out of their seat walking around and talking to one another. I walked up to the teacher, she was trying to calm the class down with no luck.
"Ms. Jensen?" I called over the noise. She whirled on me with frustration thrown across her face.
"What!"
"Could she stay in here? Her teacher just took roll and left the classroom. The rest of her class are just roaming the halls." I lied to her with a straight face. Ms. Jensen took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves.
"Sure, fine," she shoved an attendance sheet in my arms. "Just take roll for me while I go to the office." She walked out of the room almost at a jog.
I put the attendance sheet on her desk and faced the class.
"Hey," I yelled, making Abby jump next to me. "If you're here, mark it on the sheet!" They all looked at me for a second but then went back to their fearful discussions. I looked at Abby and shrugged.
"Well i tried." I smirked and walked to the back of the room where there wasn't anyone near. I looked back to see Abby staring at me dumbly. I made an over-exaggerated 'come here' gesture and sat in a chair. She came over to me more confused than before.
"Wait, why did you lie about me?" She sat in the chair next to me. "And why are you so calm about this whole thing?"
"One, it would have taken too long to explain you properly." I stopped to take a breath almost like I was getting ready to confess something. "And two, why I'm so calm is that I've also want an apocalypse of some sort to happen, because everything would just become so much simpler." I stopped then looked up again forgeting something very important. " Oh and I'm kinda high right now too."
She rolled her eyes and took out her phone. She went to put an ear bud in but hesitated.
"Why did you help me even though I'm a complete stranger." she kept her attention on the dark screen as she said it.
I thought about this for a second.
I replayed the scenario in my head. I was in the copier room on this side of the school to see if the window was open when i saw a figure through the glass.
Before i knew it i was out the room and down the stairs. My immediate instinct was to go and let her in.
I looked at the stranger next to me.
"Well," i said hesitating a little then finally shrugging my shoulders. "I don't really know. I didn't think about just leaving you out there even if you are a complete stranger. Like I'm not a selfish asshole." I looked and hoped that she didn't see my sudden nervousness. She studied her phone screen with a slightly furrowed brow. Then it softened and a little grin tugged at her lips.
"Thank you." she said in a voice so low it was barely a whisper.
Just then Ms. Jensen opened the door and yelled over the crowd.
"You are to stay in here until further notice!"
She locked the door from the inside and walked out the classroom. Looks of confusion spread through the teens. A kid got up - I think his names Aidan - went across the room and jiggled the handle.
He looked back at the crowd.
"Its locked." he went over to the other door.
Same result.
He walked back to his seat and plopped down. A crackle came from the intercom.
"All teachers and staff in the building report to the front office. Teachers make sure you lock all classroom doors and send all students in the halls to the nearest classroom..."
The intercom buzzed the familiar sound when its not on. The predicament popped in my head.
They forgot to to end the announcement, so in turn the entire human body was about to hear the whole meeting. I bolted up from my seat startling Abby.
"Hey everyone shut the fuck up," i pointed at the speaker as thirty sets of eyes looked me.
"They just left the intercom on." Most voices hushed but some continued.
They where soon silent too, after they heard the nervous voiced come from the wall.
