ALEX'S POV
It's been a week since the party and luckily for me, nobody found out I was there. I've been hiding that I haven't been eating and I'm surprised Mom didn't find out yet.
Everyday my demons keep talking in my head. I want to die more and more everyday. Should I talk to my Mom about it? Yes. Am I gonna? No, because I don't want to be a burden, especially when here career is getting back on track.
"Alex! Someone is here to see you!" Mom shouted upstairs.
"Send them up!" I shouted back as I quickly hid my blades in a box that was under my bed.
"Alex?" A familiar voice spoke as the door opened.
"Kenzie?" I asked as I looked up from my bed. "What are you doing here?" I unblocked her a couple weeks ago.. I just never tried making conversation with her.
"I just wanted to check on you. You've been distant and I was concerned.." She spoke quietly.
'SHE'S LYING. NO ONE IS EVER CONCERNED ABOUT YOU.'
I tightly gripped the sides of my mattress until my knuckles turned white.
"Alex? Are you okay? Should I go get Demi?" There was a look of fear on her face.
"No! I'm fine!" I spat. She looked shocked at my sudden outburst. "Sorry.. can you get me some water?" I asked her. I needed my plan to come into action. I want to finally be happy, which is what my plan will do. I need my antidepressants and Xanax. I'm not gonna take too much, just some to get me through the day.
"Of course." She flashed a small smile before leaving my room.
I grabbed the box that had my blades, Xanax, and antidepressants in it. I got a hold of the Xanax and antidepressants and put the box back. Little did I know, I was going to fuck up big time.
I downed four of the Xanax and took one antidepressant. Only a few short minutes later, I started excessively sweating and shaking. Did I take too much? I quickly looked up how much is too much.
'YOU IDIOT. YOU TOOK TOO MUCH.'
I got up off my bed on shaky legs and tried to make my way to the bathroom, to hopefully get the shit out of me. Before I knew it, black dots blocked my vision and I collapsed on the floor as my vision faded to black.
KENZIE'S POV
"So, how are you and Alex doing?" Demi asked me as I came downstairs.
"I guess you could say complicated. She never really talks to me anymore. She's been super distant so I just wanted to come and check on her." I replied.
"I see. Would you guys ever be down to fuck each other?" She joked and laughed her famous laugh.
"Demi!" I screamed her name and laughed.
"Just asking!" She put her hands up in surrender.
"Well, it's for me to know and for you to maybe find out." I smirked. She gasped and continued laughing. We were talking for a bit when we heard a thud from upstairs.
"Alex?! Are you okay, baby girl?!" Demi shouted upstairs. Worried was etched upon her face when Alex didn't reply.
"I'll go check on her." I told Demi before I ran upstairs. I opened her door and I wish I prepared myself for what I saw. There was an open bottle of pills on her dresser and Alex was unconscious on the floor. Sweat covered her face and she was really pale.
"Is everything alright up there?!" Demi called up.
"Alex! Oh my God!" I practically screamed instead of answering Demi's question.
"Kenzie?!" Demi called upstairs again.
"Alex! Please, wake up!" I tried shaking her in hope of her waking up. "No, no, no!" I cried out repetitively. I was hoping this was all a dream. I heard footsteps running up the stairs and then I heard Demi's voice.
"Alex! No! My baby!" Demi panicked as she quickly held her daughter in her embrace. Demi's face when she saw Alex. It looked as though she was experiencing her very own Titanic sinking. "C-Call an ambulance!" She screamed while stuttering. Tears were evidently falling down her face.
DEMI'S POV
"Alex! No! My baby!" I panicked as I quickly held my fragile daughter in my embrace and wiped some of the excessive sweat off her face. "C-Call an ambulance!" I cried out while stuttering. Kenzie pulled out her phone and called 911.
The ambulance arrived quickly and I picked up Alex, sliding on a pair of Gucci sliders, and rushing her outside to the paramedics who quickly put her in the back of an ambulance. I got in the back and Kenzie was about to get in when one of them stopped her.
"Family only." They said seriously.
"She is family." I told them, giving them a glare. They nodded and let her in. I put my hands on my face. "God.. please keep her safe.." I muttered into my hands.
"D-Demi.. do you think she did this on purpose?" Kenzie asked quietly. I sighed. I honestly didn't know. I didn't see any note, nothing.
"Was there a note?" I asked Kenzie. She shook her head no.
"There were these though.." She whispered as she handed me two pill bottles and Alex's phone. They weren't empty, so she didn't take a lot. Antidepressants and Xanax. How did I not notice she had these? I open up her phone with her passcode which is 082092 and it so happens to be my birthday. I find it kinda sweet. I saw she had messages from someone named "Max πΊπ¬"
Alex: Thanks for the stuff, Max π
Max: No problem, Lovato. Just make sure to use it wisely okay?
Alex: I will. Don't worry.
Alex: Also thanks for taking me home on Saturday and helping me sober up. I appreciate it.
Max: Good and it's not a problem. Let's hang out this weekend, yeah?
Alex: Definitely. I'll text you whenever I'm available. π
"Fuck.." I muttered under my breath. How did I not notice? My own daughter went to a party and I didn't even know about it! She also got ahold of Xanax! "I don't know if she overdosed on accident. We'll find out hopefully.." I spoke quietly to Kenzie. She nodded.
We quickly arrived at the hospital and there were a bunch of paparazzi already outside the front. I don't even know how they knew we were coming.
"Can we get some help out front? Tons of paparazzi." One of the paramedics spoke into a walkie-talkie. Immediately multiple security guards started pushing them back. We ran inside, trying our best to not let them notice it was us.
"You have to stay out here while we pump her stomach, Miss Lovato." One of the nurses stopped me. I nodded and silently went to go sit next to Kenzie. I decided to post something about this on Instagram. I posted a photo of when her and I got lunch sometime. I captioned it "Hey, everyone. I'm sure you heard now that Alex is in the hospital. Thank you for all of your concern. I won't be telling y'all why. It's up to her to decide, but please keep us in your prayers. I love y'all π"
Fuck. I need to tell Mama.
Dianna (Demi's Mom): Demi, what's going on? Are you okay?
Demi: I'm fine, Mama. Alex overdosed today... again.. I'm scared..
Dianna: We're all on our way. Don't worry, baby doll.
"My family is on their way." I told Kenzie after I texted my mom. She nodded. "Are you okay?" I asked her. She was the one who found Alex on the floor. I'm hoping it didn't scare her too much.
"Yeah.. I'm just worried." She admitted.
"I am too. She's my warrior though." I replied.
"Demi!" I heard Mama's voice from behind.
"Mama!" I quickly got up and hugged all of them. She came with Eddie, Dallas, Maddie, and Logan.
"How is she?" Dallas asked as we all sat down in the waiting room.
"I don't know yet. They're pumping her stomach right now." I replied. "I would love to introduce you guys to Kenzie." I said as I pointed to her.
"Hi." Kenzie smiled.
"This is my mom, who you can call Dianna." I pointed to her. "Then there's Eddie, my stepdad. Dallas, my older sister. Maddie, my younger sister. Then there's Logan, a family friend, she is basically family." I pointed to each of them.
"Dems, I think there's something you should know." Maddie spoke up.
"What is it?" I looked over at her curiously.
"Well.." Logan spoke up and I looked towards her. "Alex was at a party with a bunch of twenty-one year olds last weekend. I was there and I thought I saw her, but I couldn't tell because she was drinking. I just assumed it wasn't her because of that." Logan admitted.
"N-No.." I stuttered. My baby girl was drinking?
"She was also playing spin the bottle with a bunch of them. She got a ride home with one of the most troublesome of them all. Her name is Max.." Logan whispered.
"Max.." I spoke to myself. That name sounded familiar.. not because I have a toxic ex named Max or a bodyguard named Max also. Then it hit me. The girl she messaged thanking her for the Xanax. "S-She got Xanax from Max."
"Fuck.." I heard Logan mutter under her breath.
"Is that what she overdosed on?" Mom asked me.
"Yes." I replied quietly. "She overdosed on her antidepressants and the Xanax. She didn't down the whole bottle though." I handed Mom both the bottles as tears threatened to fall.
"Dems.. it's okay to cry." Dallas spoke quietly, afraid that if she spoke any louder I would break. She came up and hugged me. I broke down into sobs as I hugged my older sister. She rubbed my back comfortingly and whispered some comforting words. "It's going to be okay, Demi."
"I-I wish I could've been there to stop her. I wish I knew." I cried out as I let go of Dallas and plopped down in a chair.
"Miss Lovato?" A doctor called out.
"I'm here." I quickly got up and walked over to him.
"She's a very strong girl, Miss Lovato." The doctor told me. "I'm Doctor Smith by the way." He shook my hand.
"How is she?" I asked quickly.
"She's doing fantastic. She's still asleep, but we got all of the medicine out of her system. We did give her a feeding tube, since she seems to be underweight. Has she been eating at all recently?"
"I thought she was.. she always had an empty plate after dinner." I replied. "I have stopped watching her eat because I trusted her to eat on her own.
"You should start monitoring her meals again, Miss Lovato. Her weight isn't healthy. She needs more nutrients in her." He told me.
"Doctor Smith, Alexis has woken up and has asked for her mom." I'm assuming a nurse spoke through a walkie-talkie. "Alexis, breathe. I'm getting her right now." I heard the nurse say.
"Come on, let's go." Doctor Smith said, leading me to Alex's room. He opened the door and I immediately rushed in.
"Alex, breathe." I sat in a chair beside her bed and held her hand.
"M-Mommy?" She choked out.
"I'm here, baby girl." I comforted her quietly. She held her arms out to me and I looked to the doctor for permission to see if I could get on the bed. He nodded and I carefully got in the bed next to her.
"I-I'm sorry, Mom.." She whispered as she looked away.
ALEX'S POV
"I'm here, baby girl." Mom comforted me gently. I held my arms out to her and she carefully got in the bed next to me. She held me close to her as if she's going to let go, I'm going to be taken away.
"I-I'm sorry, Mom.." I whispered as I looked away. She made me face back at her.
"Why?" She looked me in the eyes and it looked like she had been crying.
"I-I didn't mean for this to happen. I didn't know how much to take and I.. I guess I took too much.." Tears were threatening to fall as I was looking at my mom.
"It wasn't on purpose?" She asked quietly.
"I-It was an a-accident. I'm sorry.." I replied as I played with my finger nails.
"Why did you have a bottle of Xanax? You know what they do. You know what they did to me, baby girl." Mom stopped me from playing with my finger nails.
"I just wanted to be happy. Everyone else is happy. Why can't I be happy?" I mumbled.
"I can help you learn to be happy, baby girl. What are the reasons you're unhappy?"
"I don't know! One minute I can be fine and then the next I think the worst and want to hurt myself.."
"I'll make you happy. I'm going to make sure of it." Mom reassured me. "You do know we'll have to get rid of your Xanax? I'm also not letting you keep your antidepressants in your room anymore."
"How am I supposed to take them?" I asked, obviously confused.
"I'll give you one every morning." She replied.
"Should I let the visitors in?" The doctor asked. My mom nodded.
"Who's all here?" I asked nervously.
"Grandma, Grandpa, Dallas, Maddie, Logan, and Kenzie." She replied. Kenzie was here? I don't want her seeing me like this.
"I don't want Kenzie seeing me like this.." I whispered.
"She already saw. She was the one that found you." Mom replied as she was playing with my hair. Everyone came into the room and I gave them a small smile after they all hugged me.
"We're so glad you're okay." Grandma said as she sat in one of the chairs. I stayed silent. I'm such a fuck up. I worried everyone.
"I'm sorry.." I told them all.
"Baby, stop apologizing." Mom replied. I nodded and looked down.
"When can I go home?" I looked back up at Mom.
"I don't know yet, baby girl." Mom said looking down at me. "When we do get home, I'll have to talk to you about some stuff and some ground rules."
"Okay." I replied barely audible. "I love you, Mom." I told her as I relaxed into her embrace.
"I love you too." I heard her say back before I fell asleep.
DEMI'S POV
"I love you too." I replied back. "I'm happy you're okay, baby girl." I said as she fell asleep.
"Are you doing okay, Demi?" Eddie asked me.
"Yes, now that I know my baby is okay. I'm just tired." I admitted.
"We'll let you get some sleep then." Mom said as she came over and hugged me. "We'll take Kenzie home for you."
"Thank you. I love you guys." I said as we all hugged goodbye. After they left, I fell asleep while holding Alex in my embrace. I'm grateful God kept her safe.
