ALEX'S POV
I spent one extra day in the hospital and to say my mom was worried the whole time would be an understatement.
"I brought you some clothes to change into." Mom said as she entered my hospital room.
"I-I don't want to wear shorts." I stuttered out as I looked at the clothes. Fuck, I stuttered. I can't let her see the cuts on my thighs.
"Is there something I don't know about?" Mom immediately asked.
"No. I just don't want to wear shorts." I told her.
"Well, you're going to have to because I didn't bring anything else."
"Do you have any makeup on you?" I asked her. She looked suspicious.
"No, I don't. Now I know something is up. What is it?" She asked worriedly.
"I-It's nothing.." I quietly stuttered. I grabbed the clothes and went into the bathroom that's connected to my hospital room.
"While you're changing, I'm going to sign the discharge papers." Mom smiled at me. I pulled out the clothes and changed. She was bound to find out soon anyways.
I changed into a Paramore t-shirt, black jean shorts, and white converse. I took a deep breath before I went out of the bathroom. I walked out and saw Mom was all ready to go.
"Alex.." She whispered, noticing the cuts on my thighs. "Why, baby girl?" She asked as she pulled me into her embrace. I just shrugged. "We'll talk about this when we get home."
We walked out of the hospital and were immediately bombarded by paparazzi.
"Alex, did you overdose again?!"
"Demi, you're looking gorgeous! Look here!"
"Alex, lose some weight!"
The last one hit me hard. Mom pulled me close to her and flipped off the paparazzi before we got in the car.
"They're going to make something bad out of that.." I spoke quietly to her, talking about how she flipped them off.
"I don't care." She replied bluntly. "No one can talk shit about my daughter." She gripped the steering wheel and her knuckles turned white. I'm surprised the steering wheel didn't break.
"Mom, calm down. I'm fine." I told her.
"Are you really fine? If you were fine you wouldn't have taken that Xanax! You wouldn't have gone to that party and gotten shit face drunk! You wouldn't of overdosed and we wouldn't be in this fucking mess!" She shouted and looked at me. I could see she looked guilty about her outburst.
"I-I'm sorry." I choked out and looked away.
"No.. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten upset at you." She whispered. "Baby, look at me." She made me look at her and I was noticeably crying.
"I didn't mean to.." I cried out quietly.
"I know you didn't, baby girl." She replied gently and wiped away my tears with the pad of her thumb. "How about we go home and cuddle? Does that sound good?" She asked me. I nodded. She started the car and we drove home, making it in one piece.
"I'm going to change into some pajamas." I told Mom as we pulled into the driveway.
"Meet me in my room, yeah? We still have to talk." Mom replied. I nodded and ran upstairs and into my room to change. I put on a large sleeve Paramore shirt and gray sweatpants. Feeling satisfied, I walked into Mom's room.
"What did you want to talk about?" I asked as I entered.
"Come here, baby girl." She held her arms out and I gratefully accepted and she held me in her embrace. "Why did you go to that party last weekend?"
"I wanted to. Ellie's sister took us." I replied simply.
"Why did you drink? You're only fourteen Alex.."
"It numbs the pain, Mama. It made me happy." I told her truthfully.
"There's other things that can make you happy, baby girl. You just have to find out what they are." She spoke in a soothing voice. "Was that the first time you drank?"
"No.. the first time was when I met Jake." I winced as I said his name and Mom pulled me closer to her.
"I'm so sorry. I wish I could've been there for you. I don't know how I didn't see the signs.." Mom said gently.
"You didn't know, Mom.." I replied. We sat in silence for a few minutes before Mom spoke up again.
"I don't want you hanging out with that Max chick anymore."
"Why?" I asked looking up at her. "She's my friend."
"You got the Xanax from her. I don't want you hanging around those types of people." She answered.
"How did you know I got it from her? Did you look through my phone?!" I sat up, getting angry.
"Alex, calm down."
"How am I supposed to calm down when you snooped through my phone?!" I shouted.
"It's my right as your mom to know what you're up to." She replied calmly.
"So?! Doesn't give you the right to look through my phone! I hate you!" I cried out as I left her room. I ran downstairs and outside. I just needed some fresh air. I looked at the time on my phone and it was 9:30 PM. I felt guilty about what I said to Mom. I didn't mean it, I was just angry. I was walking through town and I heard a raspy voice speak behind me. I immediately turned around.
- TRIGGER WARNING -
"What's a beautiful lady like you doing out here by yourself?" The man slurred.
"None of your business." I replied and tried walking away from him.
"Let's have some fun." He smirked and grabbed my wrist.
"Stop!" I shouted at him and kicked him in the crotch. When he let go I started running away. I made sure I lost him before I pulled out my phone.
- TRIGGER WARNING OVER -
"Alex! Thank God you're okay!" Mom's voice spoke through the phone.
"M-Mom, I need you to pick me up." I cried out, letting out a choked sob.
"Alex, what's wrong? Where are you?" She asked, worry lacing her voice.
"I-I don't know where I am." I stuttered.
"It's okay, I can track your phone. I'll be there as fast as I can, baby girl." She spoke calmly. We hung up and I sat on the sidewalk. Everything hurts. Living hurts. I need help, but I don't want it. I deserve the pain. A couple minutes later, I saw Mom's car pull up.
"M-Mom!" I cried out as I saw her get out of the car. Max, our bodyguard, also got out of the car. She ran over to me and picked me up. I clung onto her like my life depended on it.
"I-I'm sorry! I'm really sorry!" I sobbed into the crook of her neck.
"Shh, it's okay." She cooed. "I'm here. You're safe, baby girl." She carried me over to the car.
"N-No! Don't leave me, M-Mommy!" I screamed as she tried putting me in the backseat.
"Okay, okay. Calm down, baby." She got into the backseat with me. "I'm not going to leave you. What happened?" She asked me when I didn't want to get off of her lap. I thought back to what the man said and it made me think of what my father did a couple months ago.
- TRIGGER WARNING/FLASHBACK -
As I entered my dressing room someone quickly shut the door and locked it. They instantly grabbed me. I turned around and saw it was Aaron, my father. How the fuck did he get back here?
"Aaron? W-Why are you here?" I asked nervously. He pushed me onto the couch in my dressing room.
"It's Daddy to you. I always wanted to do this." His breath reeked of alcohol. He unzipped his pants and pulled them down revealing his dick. "Come on, baby. Get undressed for me." He got close to me.
"N-No.." I whispered and tried to get away. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer to him.
"Oh, yes! We're going to have fun together." He said sexually as he pulled my clothes off of me. I screamed and tried kicking at him. It didn't work. He shoved his dick inside my vagina and pulled out quickly. He kept doing this. I screamed in pain as he kept going.
"S-Stop!" I screamed as I was uncontrollably sobbing. "H-Help!"
"Shut up you little slut!" He smacked me. I heard a knock on the door.
"Alex?!" It's Max! Are you okay?!" Max shouted from across the door. I tried to scream for him but Aaron covered my mouth. I can't believe this is the way I'm losing my innocence. "I'm coming in!" Next thing the door was broken down. He quickly pulled his dick out and pulled up his pants.
"It's not what it looks like!" Aaron lied. I covered my body with my arms. Security grabbed Aaron and dragged him out. Max rushed over to me and wrapped a towel around my fragile body.
- TRIGGER WARNING OVER/FLASHBACK OVER -
I cried and whimpered as I hid my face in the crook of her neck.
"Breathe, baby girl." Mom spoke up before a panic attack started. She held my head close to her chest and I followed along with her breathing while I listened to the sound of her heartbeat.
"I don't want to talk about it, Mommy." I quietly spoke.
"You don't have to talk about it right now, baby." She talked gently. "Try and get some sleep."
"Sing?" I asked her.
The space in between us
Starts to feel like the world's apart
Like I'm going crazy
And you say it's raining in your heart
You're telling me nobody's there
To try and fly
Oh but that's just crazy
'Cause baby I told ya I'm here for good
My love's like a star, yeah
You can't always see me
But you know that I'm always there
When you see one shining
Take it as mine
And remember I'm always near
If you see a comet
Baby I'm on it
Making my way back home
Just follow the glow yeah
It won't be long
Just know that you're not alone
I tried to build the walls
To keep you safe when I'm not around
But as soon as I'm away from you
You say they come tumbling down
But it's not about the time
That we don't get to spend together
It's about how strong our love is
When I'm gone and it feels like forever
My love's like a star yeah
You can't always see me
But you know that I'm always there
When you see one shining
Take it as mine
And remember I'm always near
If you see a comet
Baby I'm on it
Making my way back home
Just follow the glow yeah
It won't be long
Just know that you're not alone
You say that time away makes your heart grow out
But I can stay just to prove you wrong
Oh look at how far we've come
Don't you know
Don't know that you're the one
My love's like a star yeah
You can't always see me
But you know that I'm always there
When you see one shining
Take it as mine
And remember I'm always near
If you see a comet
Baby I'm on it
Making my way back home
Just follow the glow, yeah
It won't be long
Just know that you're not alone
I fell into a dreamless sleep thanks to her singing.
