Her conscience prompted her to answer the call immediately, but her brain was warning her hold back the urge to talk with him.
"This is not good, if I continue with him, only humiliation is left for me!" she said.
But the caller from the other side didn't seem like he wanted to stop bothering her anytime soon. Her phone kept ringing, making Celine's inner peace disappear.
"What the hell does this guy want! Why is he being so annoying?" cried Celine, unconsciously her voice was quite strong, causing her deskmate to turn around with lots of questions.
"Celine, it's working hours. Why do you have to scream like that?" admonished one of her co-workers.
"Uh- sorry, Nay. Sorry everyone," replied Celine awkwardly.
"No problem. Continue your work," replied Abdi.
"Eh ... Is there anything you need Abdi?" Celine became very flustered. This was the second time her superiors saw her behave inappropriately during working hours.
Abdi just smiled sweetly. "Later come to my room," he said kindly.
"Uh ... fi-fine, sir."
"After lunch," added Abdi.
Celine smiled politely in response to her superior's order.
After Abdi's back disappeared behind the hallway, Celine let out a rough breath.
"Hufff ..."
Nayla saw that, and came closer to Celine's table.
"Tell me what happened? Why do you look so distressed?" asked Nayla.
"Eh ... Does it look like that?" Celine turned around asking.
"Yes, and it's pretty obvious. You know, the person who always says 'Eh, uh, eh' is the clearest example of a dazed person! Come on, tell me what's going on? Why are you so unfocused?" babbled Nayla.
"Emp ... I'm confused about where to start." Celine's face looked very sad.
"Haa? Aren't you currently happy? Your love has returned, right; Darren Theodore? You should be happy about that, why are you sad?"
Celine bit her lower lip. "Didn't you see the news last night?" asked Celine.
"News? Hemphh ... you know yourself, I'm never up to date when it comes to news issues. How can I know," replied Nayla casually.
Celine massaged her forehead seeing Nayla's behavior.
Yes, Nayla was one of the few people who knew about her relationship with Darren. About how abruptly that man went missing and their relationship came to a stalemate. And, how she kept waiting without any certainty for God knows what or who.
Talking about certainty, there is no certainty, Darren just left without a word, without saying goodbye, without a kiss on the forehead.
That night Darren disappeared as if he was swallowed by the earth, not even leaving his traces. And Nayla knew exactly how fragile Celine had been through her days without Darren, who was her first love.
Maybe true, first love didn't have to go as smoothly as the fairy tale 'Fairy Teles' that meet and be together. There were even those among the stories, who were only cursed to sleep and approached by the prince. But whatever it is, the first love story was the most memorable thing for everyone. Whether it's about the beauty of the story, the hilariousness, or even the joy of a wound that was first served by love.
"You are zoning out again, tell me what happened? You are behaving very different from usual cheerful self," Nayla kept urging Celine to tell her.
Just as Celine was about to answer Nayla's nagging question, the vibrating sound of her cell phone stopped her.
"Your cellphone goes off again," said Nayla, "Wooo is that a call from your lover. It seems that after this your mood will be as bright as a blue sky on a sunny day. Ha ha ha ..." Nayla joked at her co-worker.
Yes, they were quite close, but there was no intertwined word of friends in their relationship. Only friendship between co-workers and the meeting itself happened at work.
Even though the two of them never claimed to be friends, their relationship was quite close. Be there when you need it; whether it's for a shoulder for a heartful weep, or even to cry together, even to support each other. It turns out that in the end, it's not about who calls himself a friend, but about who was always there, be it you are in tears, laughter, or madness.
