Chapter 45 - CHRISTA GOT INJURED

Instead of driving to the pen, Thomas decides to walk as he tries to reason out the situation within his heart.

Wondering, 'Where could she be hiding, and a way to get her attention because he was at a complete loss.'

Seeing a fresh footpath leading away from the property, 'Thinking that someone has been entering the property without being detected.'

Recalling the incident with the cow. Thomas, follow the trail for about ten minutes, reaching a river, bringing him to a dead end.

Unable to go any further he just sits there, throwing pebbles into the water. Recalling from the moment they met at the airport the silent treatment she had given him.

'I didn't know anything about her then, but now we are married. Oh God, I cannot bear the silence, it is killing me slowly and it is becoming so very frustrating.

I feel so alone, I know that I was avoiding her but this is worse. At least I used to see her when the night comes and get to see her before I leave the house.

Now she is giving me the exact medicine, and Lord it is much more bitter, and even more painful. Please help me, I cannot take it any longer."

Closing his eyes allowing the cool breeze to sweep over him. Feeling, a slight peace in his heart after he had prayed.

Noticing how the time had slipped by so quickly when he got up, his watch beep five.

Thinking, 'I have been sitting here for almost three hours, doing nothing just daydreaming.

Thomas's head backs the same way he came. Hearing the humming sound, Thomas stop, knowing immediately it was Christa.

Feeling happy to hear her voice. Thomas sits right there, afraid to approach her in case she became angry.

Leaning against a tree just about twenty feet away from where she was. Closing his eyes listening as she hums, amazing grace.

Hearing his name being called, Thomas slowly opened his eyes. The place was pitch black and something was covering him. Also, someone was leaning at his side, asleep as well.

Thomas knew immediately it was Christa because her hair smell of his shampoo. Unable to answer, because he might startle her.

Thomas quietly lifted her in his arms. Only to realize she has gotten slimmer and had lost a good few pounds.

She smells clean from a bath she took from the river. While walking with her in his arms, Thomas hears her stomach growl.

With both hands occupy holding her, he try to wipe the tears away that were running down his face.

It was difficult, finally, Thomas didn't care anymore just allowing it to flow. "You are hungry and I have sufficient money to live comfortably. Yet you haven't eaten for a week.

What is the use when I have all of that and you are hungry?'

Holding her more close to his chest, 'You could have left me sleeping there all alone, but you stayed. I know you still care a little bit if you only know how I feel about you?'

When she mumbles a few things Thomas just listens, knowing how his family had illtreated her.

You have a right to miss your family because my family doesn't care about her.

Feeling her clothes slightly wet on her. Reaching his room Thomas rest her on the bed and went in search of her nightgown. Seeing the manila envelope and a few others, he opened it carefully.

Her family had written to her, and Errol's letter had instructed her to be good, and that there's no need to worry about the family.

Louise, Shamil, and Laura had written, telling her of Kate's new baby girl.

Opening the manila envelope, Thomas saw the syringe and the report of the test result, also the fingerprint.

Recalling her words as if it was yesterday, "Next time I see something I will play blind."

'It was you who find the syringe and know it was poison, that is why you push to save the cow's life.

How could I be so stupid? I was so angry with you, and I said so many things verbally to hurt you.

Yet not once did you whisper a word although you knew the truth. You behaved as though you didn't care, leaving me to carry on like a fool. Oh God, I am no better than my family.'

Replacing the envelopes just as he found it, then took out her clothes and went to the bed.

Realizing then, 'It was she that had seen the person injected the animal, and had the vet to come in and attend to the cow. I was so angry with you and all this time you were seeking my interest.

Why didn't I figure it out then when she said next time you will play blind. "God I was so foolish and didn't pay any attention to what you had said.'

When his phone rings, Thomas picked it up quickly, just to make sure she doesn't wake up.

Answering his dad, "Yes dad, sorry I had you worried but I am in bed, please don't, Christa, is asleep, and I am very tired. Dad, please tell her I don't want to be disturbed by anyone."

Switching off his phone, reaching to the door, Thomas locks it. Dimming the room light then change her and pulled the covers over her and went to the bathroom.

When the banging came, Christa pulls the covers around her and went to the door, opening it still half asleep.

Cynthia heard the door click, so she pushes the door hitting Christa, and she fell. Pulling the towel around him so quickly, hearing her screaming.

Wanting to know what was wrong? Thomas rushes out of the bathroom seeing Christa on the floor and his parents together with Massy, Carla, and Lester.

With her groaning on the floor and they, all stood looking at her. Unable to control his rage any longer. Thomas, shouted to the top of his voice, "Get out this moment before I do something we will all regret."

Kneeling next to her, Thomas picks her up but her cry made him aware that something was seriously wrong.

Resting her on the bed then removing the covers, Thomas saw her wrist twisted and felt limp. The swelling was so frightful to look at, "Oh my God her wrist is damaged real bad."

Thomas bends down kissing her lips then whispers, "I have to get you to the hospital."

Hearing her screaming when he said, "You will have to see a doctor. Christa, I will stay with you, I promise." Seeing the way her head was shaking. Ignoring her he turns to his family.

"I told you to get out but nothing I say has any weight in this house, so I am leaving." Grabbing his clothes, he went into the bathroom to change.

Then he took the pan resting it on top of Christa and lifts her still wrapped in the blanket

Saying out loud for them to hear, "I am taking you away from this prison I brought you in, so no one will hurt you again, I should have done this since I married you."
