Chapter 49 - CHRISTA BECAME ANGRY AND STOOD HER GROUNDS

Thomas stoops down only to hear her soft crying, with her head resting on top of her knee.

Sitting next to her whispering, "I brought you more pain than happiness, as soon as the Doctors take out the cast from your hand.

It will be better for you to visit your family for a few weeks. Now stop the crying and let me help you with your bath.

The injection I got the Pharmacist to give you last night, might wear out any time now. And you have to eat something before using the painkiller the Doctor prescribed."

Christa looks into his eyes shaking her head saying, "I cannot show up in my village, they must have already cast so many curses on me.

Maybe that's why I am so crooked and causing all this problem. God must be punishing me for being disobedient?"

"Now you listen to me, you did nothing wrong, anything has to happen, let it happen to me, I did the wrong."

Taking her good hand on his, "We will face this together just trusts me, everything will work out better than we expect, if you are afraid to go alone, then I will go with you."

"You, won't mind?" Looking at him wanting to know, 'If he meant it, or was he just saying that because he knows that I am afraid?'

"Not in the lease, you stood with me and if you are afraid, then I will stand with you, though matter what, I promise you."

"Thank you so much."

"Now, I want you to try and reach the bathroom." Noticing when she stood up how weak she was, "Okay, let me help you, and then I will get your clothes."

Wondering at that moment, 'Where will he get clothes for me, when we left yesterday in a hurry or is it some of his women friend clothes hanging in the wardrobe?'

Feeling so nauseated with the thought, it makes her even frailer, stumbling on the mat in front of the bathroom door.

Grabbing the door handle, just not to fall on her sick hand or even to cause danger to the baby. When he said as his hold tighten on her good hand. "I am right here so don't worry, I won't let you fall."

Thinking, 'I should have known that I was pregnant, the odor of the food and vomiting but then I thought it was the milk like that first night we got married.

Even when my ministration came for just the night, not once did I think I was pregnant. I just thought it was stress and the changing of the environment.

When the Doctors told me if I am overworking myself, it could stress out the baby, putting his life at risk.

Resting her hand on her stomach as Christa sits in the washroom whispering, "You are strong my son, and I am going to take good care of you, the doctor says I need plenty of rest and no stress."

Thomas had taken out his slippers and jersey so he could help her. Overhearing her whisper to his son, he knew at that moment she will be a wonderful mother.

Checking the water to feel the warmth for the length of time we took just to reach the bathroom. Thomas adds a little more hot water, before removing the blanket from her shoulders.

"Sit here and rest your hand on the wall." Doing as she was told, knowing if she was a bit stronger, she wouldn't need his help.'

Keeping her eyes closed as he soaks and soaps her body, when the doorbell rang, hearing how angry he responds. "Who could that be? You sit here I will just be a minute."

After a few minutes, Christa started to feel cold when he didn't return. Angling the chair so it won't be too difficult on the side, so she could complete her bathing.

Struggling to dry her body with the thick heavy towel, feeling as though all her strength is gone, taking each step slowly and carefully knowing if she falls again the baby will get hurt.

Finally reaching the bed seeing where Thomas had rested the clothes. Christa just sit down next to it, "He had bought new clothes, he also asked me to trust him, but what do I know about him?

He had shown me kindness but the others are completely different besides his dad. At times I notice Carla is angry with the others but blood is thicker than water."

Hearing the loud noise, "Dear God it's his mom," being angry with their constant meddling, this must stop.

Christa dresses slowly not to injure or cause more pain in her hand in any way. It took her about fifteen minutes to reach outside listening to their disagreement.

No one seems to notice she was standing at Thomas's side. Taking the broom handle she had used for a walking stick and support she tap it on the table.

Seeing all eyes on me, "Good, now that I have gotten your attention, I am tired of your bickering and complaining.

You might find I am disrespectful now but nothing seems to satisfy you. I never told you anything because your son asked me not to, but it is overbearing."

"Christa please don't exert yourself, return to your room I will be with you in a minute."

Thomas was shocked, despite her weakness, her voice was strong, when she said to mom, "You leave home to come and fight with him when he only wants some peace.

If I am the problem tell me, I was willing to leave the very night we got married, if you feel I want your Son money.

I will sign an agreement stating I want nothing, but for peace, sake leaves us alone."

"Honey, okay, you have said enough and you are tired and weak let me take you to bed."

But Christa removes his hand from hers, "I have tolerated all the foolish talk you sit and talk with the others.

What you fail to realize is you are poisoning the mind of the children and causing discord among them.

If Tom has displeased you by marrying me I had asked him to annul the wedding if that will please you.

I will leave your life and your family, but I promise you the day I leave you will lose everything you continue to fight for."

Turning away from them and opening the front door, "Now if you don't leave now then I will."

"Christa, what are you doing, you are not well?"

Saying to Thomas, "If you cannot put a stop to this quarreling, I will."

Seeing Thomas turn to face his mother, who stood in one spot not making any attempt to leave, closing the door quietly Christa slowly walks away.

"Honey please try and lie down, mom will be leaving now." When Thomas turns towards the door it was close and she was nowhere in sight.
