Chapter 4 - Violet

I've been here for three full days already. From the time I came, got introduced to new people who came, and went into the 'Strength Closet'. I don't know how to feel about this place though. I just want to go back home, and be in the comfort of my own room, and just be able to hug my siblings. -Just to make sure they're okay.

I was laying in bed staring up at the ceiling. It was dark- not completely quiet however. Actually it was pretty loud. The AC was always running and made so much noise. My other roommates either moved a lot while sleeping, snored, talked in their sleep, or slept walked- plus my thoughts, that continually echoed throughout my mind. It was all so annoying. I was used to the quiet peace at home and my own space. The thoughts were there too- but different thoughts. Thoughts that I could handle. Thoughts that I now overcame in a way in the flashbacks. That was a plus- some closure...

I turned over to my side toward the door and began to get lost in my thoughts, drowning out all the excess sounds and noises.

I wondered what the deal about Violet was. I just don't understand, what do they mean 'blinded by love?' I thought. It could be any type of love... What did she do?... There were so many questions and not enough answers.. Maybe I should sleep on things... I thought to myself, once more.

It's two A.M. I suddenly heard footsteps coming down the hallway.

"Who would be up walking around at this time," I whisper to myself.

It was just odd..

I get down from my bunk as quickly and as quietly as possible and I open the door slightly, my pitch black hair trailing behind me. I didn't see anyone- and the footsteps had stopped..

"Boo!"

I jumped back quickly, startled.

"What the fuck was that for?! Are you crazy?!" I screamed in a whisper.

"Nah, just messin' with ya." Violet said, jokingly.

"Well it's not funny. Do you know what time it is?"

"Yes," she reply's.

"And I understand, but I couldn't sleep- and by the looks of it, you couldn't either."

I guess she's right, I thought.

"Would you like to come get some semi-fresh air with me? Maybe we could share our stories?..." She asks hesitantly.

"Sure."

This was my chance to finally figure out what they meant.

I stepped out of the room and closed the door soft and quietly behind me. We began walking to the Cafeteria in which had a balcony. We couldn't step through the barrier of the door threshold however. Since our bracelets were wired to shock us and alert the men in black suits, it would seem as if we were escaping. We didn't know or want to know what happened if that happened.

When we reached the threshold, the doors were open. It was a set up. We didn't fall for it, we sat on the ground right before our feet could even touch the barrier. We stared out into the night. Looking at all the stars and soaking in as much of the cold fresh air coming from the wide open doors as we could. It was... Refreshing.. In a way. Soothing almost-. I began first-

"Well," I started off.

"My father was never present in my life, but whatever he was doing was causing harm to our family." I said. It was quiet, but she was focusing intently.

"He had a bounty over his head, but since they couldn't find him; they went after his family instead." I continued.

"We didn't know this of course, we had no business knowing. My mom was to busy trying to make sure me and my siblings were okay to focus about our dad, let alone herself."

"One day- it was about three A.M. and I heard voices. I didn't recognize any of them however, except my mothers. Her voice gradually filled with panic. She then yelled for me to grab my siblings and hide. I was eleven years old at the time, my little sister was five, and my baby brother had just turned two- not to long ago."

"Well.. What happened to your mother?..." She said- genuinely confused.

"Well, I grabbed my siblings and hid in a closet. I heard my mother coming up the steps and being forced into a room. I cracked closet open, not too much, but just enough to see what was happening."

"There were strange people asking for my dad, but of course my mother had no clue. They thought she she lying however and penetrated her little body, piercing her heart. They were professionals and this was probably not the first time they had done this. It was so-so-so effortless. I was broken. I had to take care of my siblings all alone after that, but I trained every-single-day for the day when I would be able to avenge my mother, and make them pay. But now I'm sixteen, and here I am." I concluded.

"Wow, that's totally messed up, I am so sorry for asking..." she says looking down, rubbing her fingers across the floor.

"It's alright, your turn?" I ask.

"Yes of course, it's only fair." She says, still staring at the ground, tucking a loose strand of her dark goldish- brown hair behind her ear.
