Chapter 9 - Connection Part 4

"Apollyon!" A voice called from the dark hallway.

Turning, towards the voice, Apollyon answered, "yes what is it?"

"There's a horde!" A frantic Class C scout shouted, leaning weakly on the doorframe.

"A horde? What do you mean?"

"Demons! Around a thousand, all humanoids!"

His eyes widened in a flash, he ordered, "get somewhere safe!" The scout ran away frantically and Apollyon switched his computer screen to the radar, it sat unresponsive. "What? Why isn't the radar working? There's nothing there!" Checking the status of the systems, radar and external communication was listed as unresponsive in bold red text. He pressed the intercom button on the system command deck, stating, "Demons have infiltrated The Harbor! They have compromised our radar systems! This is a call for arms! Defend our harbor!" Apollyon turned away from the microphone as muttered, "I hope The Marina is okay,."

Walking back from the storeroom after working manual labor, Aster store meekly up at the intercom speaker in the corner of the hallway.

"Demons?" He whispered to himself. "And they're having a call for arms?" He thought. He suddenly bit his lip and realized, "I left my sword in the dorm! I'm defenseless!"

In the lobby, various humanoids stood in the front of a destroyed wall. Two harbor members revealed themselves from the dust. There stood Jawed Green, wielding a silver gauntlet on his right hand, clouds circled around the fingers. Rosie Flores also emerged, holding a giant dual sided axe, stars branded into the metal of the blades. The crowd of demons stood idly in front of them, none of their bodies were exactly the same shape, color, or size; one's body was persistently covered in green flames.

"It's just me and you here?" Jawed yelped, staring at Rosie.

"Don't forget the demons are attacking all around The Harbor, everyone available is spread out thin, mostly around the infirmary."

Confidently grinning, Jawed stated, "it's fine, we got this. After all, we are a part of Class A, This should be easy." Shooting his gauntlet up, thunderous clouds shot out and around the room. The demons were done waiting and rushed the duo. With grace, Rosie slid under the demons, heaving a heavy slash through their legs, forcing most to collapse onto the rough marble floor. "My turn," he declared, and from the clouds emerged a fury of lightning strikes that beat down on the already stunned demons. When the lightning ceased, the demons slowly dissipated into water, leaving behind a pile of Midnight Weapons. "So that's what happens when a demon dies," Jawed commented.

"They just dissolve into water, leaving their weapons behind," Rosie observed, "come on, we still have more demons to clear out."

As the two ran down the halls, searching for demons, Jawed said, "hey Rosie."

"What?" She curtly asked.

"Demons are just people who were overcome with their weapon's power, right?"

"That's what we know."

Looking over, Jawed said, "promise me you won't become one of them. I know we don't know each other too well but you're the only other person from Marylebone, and I don't want to lose you."

Staring back, Rosie coldly and calmly demanded, "you too, don't you dare lose your humanity."

A smile erupted onto his face and he said, "don't worry, I won't."
